    Hallo Stefan ,

      Schönen Guten Morgen Heinz,
vielen Dank!
      Grüße
      Stefan

    • @Stefan.Zimmermann
      @Stefan.Zimmermann  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, by Faroese standards we were a bit lucky and had a bit more good weather. But the video is also a bit deceptive.
We were there for three weeks and sometimes the sun breaks through the clouds for 30 minutes, or it's clear for an hour until the next cloud front comes.
You have to try to be in the right place at such moments.
You can't fly with the drones in bad weather or too much wind. That's why the better weather impression prevails in the videos. Even if you are lucky, there is much more rain than good weather in the Faroe Islands. If you are only there for 7 days, for example, you can quickly get frustrated if you are not lucky.
But it is precisely these constant changes that make the Faroe Islands so special. What is generally always the case is the extremely strong wind. Here you need good nerves when flying with drones. It is best to land with 50% remaining capacity so that you still have enough reserves in case of doubt. If you come back too late here, you can lose your drone. It happens again and again that the wind unexpectedly picks up for 5 minutes and the drones barely arrive during this time. If, as I said, you can't bridge this, that's it :-)

@@Stefan.Zimmermann I thought I'd be very lucky to make it there for one week. But good to know that I should be pushing for a bit more. 2025 if I'm lucky...

@@seb-depp One week can go well if you are lucky, but you can also come home with almost no photos and be very frustrated. I would recommend planning for at least 14 days. It would be a shame if you couldn't achieve your goals because the weather is consistently bad. That's worse than adding a few more days, I believe.
If you leave the main islands on the ferry and the weather gets too bad, you may not be able to return. Sometimes ferries don't operate for several days. This can all happen and is hard to plan for. Therefore, you should avoid leaving the main islands in the last few days before departure. Everything you want to do on the surrounding islands should be done at the beginning of the trip. Some ferries must be booked online, while for others, you need to be there about 4 hours in advance; otherwise, there might not be any available space. On the last ferry at the end of the day, there are often many people who can't travel and are stuck on the surrounding islands for the night. The locals always have priority and arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the ferry departs. When 1 or 2 buses suddenly arrive here, or a truck, you can see how suddenly 8 or more foreigners with their rental cars may not get on board, even though they have been waiting for 3 to 4 hours.
This can be really frustrating and it happened to us once, even though we were there very early. We waited for 4 hours for nothing.
If you'd like, I can send you a Google Earth list with our selected great places. Just send me an email, which you can find at www.youtube.com/@Stefan.Zimmermann/about. There, you'll also find information about helicopter sites, given the drone bans, and more. I think that could be very helpful.
And one more thing: Much of the land is privately owned, and they charge a fee if you want to access their land for hiking. This is a historical practice dating back to the first settlers. Prices range from €20 to €350. Yes, you read that correctly. Even the tunnels that connect the three main islands and run under the Atlantic Ocean have tolls. Bloggers often claim there's a flat rate, but that's not true. Each crossing must be paid for. If you drive from one side of the island to the other in the morning and back in the evening, about €80 is due (current prices may vary). Unfortunately, this adds up, and many are surprised by it. Therefore, carefully plan your routes and the location of your vacation home. Nevertheless, the Faroe Islands are truly wonderful, and you'll love this landscape. On bad days, it's always our Netflix day. Fortunately, the cottage had everything, and I could watch movies and series with my login, even in the local language. Such days occur from time to time, but it's not a problem if you've planned enough days. Write to me when you're planning and booking your trip, and I can provide many more tips!

    • @Stefan.Zimmermann
      @Stefan.Zimmermann  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello Michael, unfortunately I come only now to answer. Gradually, I will answer the days but all the questions.
      To your question.
We use only DJI products, there are not so many manufacturers and possible alternatives for drones. Here was the Mavic 2 Pro and DJI FPV (but with a GoPro Hero10 mounted as a camera) in use. The time-lapse photography we create with a DJI Pocket 2. This is very small and light, can be remotely controlled via Smarthone. Is quite uncomplicated and costs in the backpack hardly space and weight.
For video editing we use Davinci Resolce Studio and in my opinion it is the most innovative tool in this area. Very many newer films in Hollywood are produced with it, up to the Star Wars films, for example. Premiere Pro, on the other hand, I find old-fashioned and slow, but there are still super many who can not or do not want to let go through their decades of experience with it. It takes a while to get into Davinci Resolce, but the effort is really worth it. It took me 2 years to drop my old experiences and start over with Davinci Resolce. A very long time ago Davinci Resolce had cost $1,000,000 (not a typo) and was mainly used for color grading films in Hollywood, this is what it was developed for. There were no really satisfactory tools for this before. About 6 years ago, it was greatly reduced in price for the general public and the triumphal procession has literally begun.

Hello! I really liked your video from the normal camera drone shots to the fpv. The fpv shots especially have inspired me to try to do something like this in the future. I own a Mavic air 1 and have been thinking about getting an fpv drone. I really like the speed that the Mavic fpv offers although I've read that the propellers can at times show in the video so I was wondering if this has ever been an inconvenience for you. I also wonder what's your opinion about the avata. Everyone seems to praise it, but I really like the speed that the fpv can reach!
Sorry for the lengthy comment and I hope for your reply.

    • @Stefan.Zimmermann
      @Stefan.Zimmermann  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Hello :-) A lengthy comment? I enjoy it when people delve deep into things. I'm also someone who tends to write too much (the detail-oriented type). So, no problem :-)
The DJI FPV is perfect for vast, expansive landscapes, long flights, ample space, and it remains stable even in windy conditions (often near the coast, sea, or in northern countries). This is where its nearly 150 km/h speed shines. On average, it flies at around 80 km/h (which could stress the Avatar if it tried to keep up).
However, the internal camera of the DJI FPV is not optimal for capturing high-quality and stabilized footage. You can find more information about this here: th-cam.com/video/5MTAm6TvHJE/w-d-xo.html
Therefore, a GoPro weighing about 160 grams is added as an accessory. The additional weight is not a disadvantage; in fact, in such landscapes and strong winds, it becomes an advantage for stable flights. Additionally, the GoPro records tilt angles with its internal gyro sensors, allowing for perfect stabilization on a PC using the Reelstadt software (which requires a license). This is significantly different from the typical software stabilization used in the past.
On the other hand, the DJI Avatar is much smaller and lighter, making it more suitable for narrow spaces or small areas, such as a Lost Place or an abandoned children's playground, where accidents are more common. Everything, including the propellers, is well protected in these tight and unclear spaces, making it unsuitable to fly the DJI FPV. However, in large, open landscapes, the DJI Avatar is not as well-suited, as it is too light (susceptible to wind), jittery, and has limited radio range. Flying at full speed (which is slower than the DJI FPV) also stresses the Avatar's batteries.
Mounting an additional GoPro would push the Avatar's motors to their limits. Fortunately, the internal Avatar camera is the first from DJI to incorporate gyro sensors, which makes it manageable, although the GyroFlow software is not as powerful as GoPro's Rellsteady app. Nevertheless, GyroFlow is significantly better than the internal stabilizations in the Avatar drone.
So, both drones have their specific advantages and disadvantages.
When flying alone, it can be challenging to carry both drones. However, since we are usually two people when flying, there is no disadvantage in bringing both drones along. This is important not to forget. If flying alone, you would have to decide beforehand depending on the specific tour and be more limited.
Oh, there are subjects that are much better suited for a traditional drone, but sometimes FPV is better, depending on the subject. Personally, I would never want to give up a regular drone. Some of my friends have completely switched to FPV only over the years. I find those pure FPV videos a bit dull in the long run. They may be super interesting for the pilot, but for viewers who aren't into the hobby, pure FPV videos can quickly become monotonous. Avoid making the same mistake!
Mixing both types of footage in a single video can be a bit challenging due to the significant speed difference. However, with some careful planning, it can be done quite well.
It's also recommended to start practicing with flight simulators on the PC, such as Liftoff. You fly these FPV drones in Acro mode (completely manual mode). If you let go of the control sticks, the drone will immediately crash. On average, it takes about 30 to 50 hours of practice in the simulator to be able to fly safely in real life. In the first 2 to 3 hours in the simulator, you might think it will never work. You can hardly go 10 seconds without crashing 😊 It's similar to learning to ride a bicycle; suddenly, it clicks, and from then on, it works reasonably well.
Those small 40-gram FPV drone kits from BETAFPV (Whoop drones) with goggles and a remote control for around 250€ are also good for practice. They can withstand many crashes and are super easy and cheap to repair. Crashing the DJI FPV can be quite expensive and should preferably be avoided 😊 The Avatar is much more robust in this regard. Perhaps starting with it would be more advantageous, but it depends on the type of subject, whether Avatar or DJI FPV is better.
I hope this helps with your further considerations.

With Propreller in the video I never had.
You work here with two points of view.
In the glasses in the live view, a much larger wide angle is displayed to see the propeller constantly almost fully. This helps a lot to avoid collisions and to estimate distances to obstacles.
On the high quality video of the SD card, the propellers are no longer included (other viewing angles here).

    • @carlosjarabo8653

@@Stefan.Zimmermann Your reply is amazing thank you very much. I will the practice first on liftoff and then get your recommended drone for more advanced practice. I can scratch the itch of filming with my air right for now or maybe even get a mini 3 and develop other skills on it.
Now I definitely want the fpv with gropro over the avata. The feeling I get every time I watch this video evokes a feeling of joy inside me that I cannot get from the videos I have wathched that used the avata (although the avata seems like a very powerful tool too for the other type of shots you described).
Also I love that you shared your concerns over carryign two drones or just using fpv in videos. It is really helpful when experienced people share this type on information. I feel like it's the type of thing that nobody mentions but is important to be aware of.
Many thanks again for your detailed reply. It has cleared up any doubts that I have and I feel like I know where to go from where I am now.

No problem! If you have any questions later, just write to me.
Once you've made up your mind, I'll be happy to give you some tips on GoPro and FPV in terms of mounting, shielding against electromagnetic influences, etc.
In Liftoff there is also a model for the DJI FPV (has to be installed later), which simulates the weight and characteristics approximately.
As a controller, it must be one that has no spring left in the controller on the left side, it must not go to the centre by itself. If you have never flown FPV before, this can be valuable information. A normal xBox controller, for example, is not suitable. You can buy a simple FPV controller for 20 to 30€, or you can also connect the DJI FPV to your PC. If you fly with a normal controller it will not work. Just to avoid frustration! The left stick is there to hold the altitude and with a spring on the stick it won't work. Middle = fly higher and higher!
Do you maybe know this video of us? That was to get to know the DJI FPV better. A few days of fun and testing in Italy:
      th-cam.com/video/CeSoY1Q2WYs/w-d-xo.html
In about 4 weeks we are going to Norway over the polar circle for a new movie with normal and FPV drones :-) We are really looking forward to it.
      Many greetings
      Stefan

@@Stefan.Zimmermann Again many thanks for you kind help. I will have you in my mind if I ever have any doubts!
Yeah, I saw the model recreation in liftoff which is amazing. I also found out that at some point I grabbed a free copy of DRL so I've been trying it out these days.
I get what you mean about the controller. I've been using my xbox controller but I really need to change it because of the center bit you mentioned. I don't want to build bad habbits or muscle memory with the xbox controller.
And of course I've watched it! I did immediately after watching this one, it's great. But for me this one is my favourite I think because of the combination of normal shots with fpv shots as you mentioned before.
Amazing! I hope you have a fantastic trip although it's going to be cold! It will be amazing to see the video you make and how the setup holds up at low temperatures.
Thank you again and have a great trip!
