In WA , at least in some local councils near Kwinana southie Perth, has implemented curb side EV charging. I dont own an electric car, but it looks cool, so not sure about the cost of charging.
Thanks Tom. Yes very good initiative especially until "street chargers" become more prevalent here. As long as safety is taken into account and the council have permit controls it should work well.
That’s a horrible idea for anyone that relies on the footpath. It’ll be particularly bad for people with mobility aids. This was probably “successful “ because the inner west is already not very accessible.
Man this is such a janky solution for such a large proportion of homes in Sydney. Just another time it’s lack of planning and forward thinking of any capacity causes problems for everyone. The whole city needs to be pulled down and redone
Think it's a safety hazard for both pedestrians and those using long extension leads. I see someone tripping and suing the council and or charger user. Lawyer state of mind.
Creating problems to solve problems is such a council thing to do, still should create a few more Government jobs, nek minnit, EV cable compliance inspector.
The problem is in the inner cities - there could never be enough charging stations for the population (that doesn't have access to off street parking). Best to look at all options.
This isn't a solution. Foot Paths are for people to walk on. Many of those people are in wheelchairs or have limited mobility. This "solution" is a safety hazard and simply isn't required if we put in more suitable charging infrastructure such as pole charging, more supermarket and other charging infrastructure.
I guess you don't have experience of living in Sydney's Inner West. You will find that parking over the footpath is allowed because the streets are narrow and traffic can't pass so any criticism is nothing to do with EV's. In the inner city most of these people don't really need cars at all so I don't know why so many insist on having a car. I lived in the Inner West and got around using the tram or walking. I did have work car but did not use it except to drive out towards the edges of the city basin.
Fantastic idea :)

Yes, a good idea and overdue.
💯
Good idea.
@@kenambo I agree
This method is all over London which doesn't have much in the way of off street parking. Never heard of this method being a problem.
Great to hear

Agreed!
You can buy 400mm wide covers. All trial users should be using them, this one looks to steep and hard for wheelchair users.
I wonder if the council has cover requirements / recommendations
looking at the image, the wheelchair may not even fit between the tesla/ cable and the wall?!
Get the strongest one you can. In some streets Australia Post will be driving electric trikes on footpaths. They can be 500KG full loaded

You’ve nailed it on the head … the footpaths are quite narrow anyway in the area

Would be good to see the terms of the permit

Watch out for the parking, err EV ranger!
Did you say Adelaide 🤣
Oops sorry Adelaide! 😭
Just go to a charging station
@@SS-yw7vo Yes but given the choice I’d rather plug in at home after a long day at work … great to have this option for these residents

I’m all for more pole chargers 👏
