      @@GalaxColor A union contract is a set of terms and conditions the company/employer and the union agreed upon. Contracts generally last around 3 years, and are negotiated again after it ends. • @MarioMastar
      @MarioMastar 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Vector lines are far easier to do with a mouse cause you can control the nodes and make precise lines easier. It's actually WAY more tedious to do vector art with a pen and manually doing line art is a fallacy. It's just not efficient to do it that way because some idiot artists on youtube tell you that's the way (and spam the undo key). When you're on a time budget, you don't have time to use the UNDO key 100 times to get the perfect stroke. that's as bad a habit as not cooking your eggs because "in Japan, the eggs are healthy for you when they're uncooked". You're not in Japan and salmonella is a real problem.

    • @MarioMastar
      @MarioMastar 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah, Vector lines. mathematcially generated strokes using nodes and points. No one seriously hand draws line art cause you can't reuse the strokes for future frames, an unsteady hand means redoing the line over and over, and it's a MASSIVE waste of time with no progress. You'll see it a lot on youtube videos, but as they say, "you wouldn't listen to a doctor who's still in high school, so why would you listen to an artist who's more worried about how you make the piece than what the final piece is?"

      Good luck:) going to uni in 4 yrs and I plan to major in animating, how is it?

    • @StainedGlassLamp
      @StainedGlassLamp 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@TamWam_ I know this is a year late, but I saw this again so I decided to pitch in.
      I'm 1 1/2 years in, and I don't go do a animation specific school like Scad or Ringling. I go to a a big university with the best animation program in my state. This uni has almost every major you can think of btw.
      Sole Animation schools allow you to pick more specific majors, while I'm only able to take a general animation major. So I need to learn all kinds of animation, such as hand drawn 2D, 2D rigs and puppeting, 3D, VFX, motion graphics, etc. You also have to take preproduction (bodies in motion) and a photography class.
      However this general uni is WAYYYY cheaper then even the cheapest animation schools, and you're getting the same education. It's just you can't major in a spefifc kind of animation, like 2D for example.
      I went to a community college first and got my Assioates of arts there. So I actually have an advantage compared to my peers, I'm definitely more towards the top in the 2D department. But in others like motion graphics I'm average, and I don't want to talk about my 3D stuff haha.
      My major warning is that if you aren't into 3D work, and you're going to a school that's also generalized like mine, teach yourself how to make 3D art NOW. The first thing we were told in my intro to 3D class is over HALF the students change their major, fail, or straight up drop out/quit because of how hard the learning curve is compared to 2D. And it ended up being true. Over half my class was gone by the end of the semester I managed to make it, but I struggled. Got a B, but a C is required to pass lab classes.
      Ive heard actual animation spefic schools promote a very, very unhealthy work ethic, so that's another pro of foing to a general uni that has animation as a major.
      Also, if the school has a SIGGRAPH club, JOIN. IT. It's hard to explain it here so I'd recommend googling it.
      Final thing, since my school doesn't require a pre made portfolio to get accepted, we have a thing called "candidacy," which is a huge deal at my school. Halfway through your 4 years, you have to apply for it. You basically get interviewed by the highest of the higher ups in the animation department, and determine if you're going to make it in the industry. If you fail this, you get one other shot, fail again, you get kicked out of the major. It's brutal and I have to apply for it next semester this Spring sooo... Im praying here lmao.
      Sorry if this is scary at all, but I'm having a very good time at school and I'd say keep pushing and go for your dreams!

      It's not something you'd normally knew about even if you were deeply into it. I'd like to break the stereotype that rough animators do everything or do the most of the work, in reality, it's just a half.

      We usually pair every frame with the character design. That is why character has to be drawn front, side, and any angle in character's sheet if needed. If the dynamic action animation, keyposes of each movement must strictly look same, then the inbetween usually not as much details-it is fine.
      The point is the character sheet is your foundation. And yes solid drawing also the point to keep quality better.

    Yeah, having drawn in every possible way on the computer, Vector art is FAR easier to do with a mouse than with a pen. You can draw the line art with a pen but you really don't want to waste more time doing the whole "stroke/undo/stroke/undo" thing that amateur digital artists "learn" to do cause time is money and not making progress with every stroke is a complete waste of time as you have no evidence to show for it. Just better to be slightly slower and do vectors. This isn't the kind of place where an ego is worth the hours it takes to do one perfect frame. Plus you can reuse Vector lines in future frames by just shifting them instead of having to redo every line manually. Those time saving tricks are what makes these episodes take weeks to do instead of months.
    Major kudos showcasing what it looks like to be a professional line artist. A lot of people take digital art and animation for granted cause we only see the final result, but no one sees the hours/days/WEEKS/MONTHS it takes to have to do this...for EVERY frame of a 22 minute animation, let alone at 24 frames per SECOND, it adds up to doing this kind of work for over 4000 images, and that's just the line art, let alone the coloring, the sketching, the coreography, etc. Very underappreciated.

      You can do rough animation anywhere you like, including just paper, but for cleanup animation it depends on the software requirements. In this case it’s possible to achieve the necessary result only in Harmony

    Though I have large screen display pen, I'm still using lineart tool for cleanup since it has consistency weight and easy to control. If you use Clip Studio Paint, doing cleanup lineart in Vector Layer is a huge help as the lines are controllable, so the quality remains still. My standard studio is mostly 3.0, but rn I'm working on kid animation so the line weight must be 6.0-12.0 depending on hpw close/far character from camera.

      Probably weak PC? Or there are so much lines intersecting that it can't process it / there is a lack of RAM to process it
      You can "break" Harmony with this if you overdo and have a lot of lines on top of each other, program won't be able to do this properly because it's not supposed to process a lot of "sketchy" lines if that's the case

    What softwares progress this vector and point approach? I currently use my iPad procreate but it’s getting annoying to a point where yea it SEVERLY impacts workflow so I need to switch to this. I also have a very good custom new computer, what do you use and what are other similar programs? Ive wondered if you could do this in programs like maya and blender while still keeping it 2D. I have all adobe programs but haven’t used one yet. Tell me everything- I’m aspiring to start in industry standard practices for 2025.

    • @emptyvoid_
      @emptyvoid_  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@ranciid any software that has a bezier curve tool, but it still functions differently, Clip Studio is different from Harmony or Blender for example, you just have to try it out and see how it's different. I used an ok PC, but my 2012 laptop still can pull most things off (except for heavy render). I'm currently learning how to do 2d animation in Blender and the principle how software analyzes vector information is similar to Harmony, however it does take a bit of a toll on a weak machine 😔 I wouldn't recommend photoshop for animation for weak pc too, it eats a lot of memory & there are already a ton of programs that do it better anyway.
