I discovered David recently, and since then I’ve made more progress than during the last 20 years. His teaching lays a solid foundation then each subsequent lesson builds on what you already know from the previous lesson, each time you take a small manageable step forward and so on. It’s the first time that since many years ago when I first began to play that it’s all making sense, everything is dropping into place. Thanks David you are a legend.
These lessons are extremely helpful. Not too fast, not too long and in a language I can digest. The fact that there is not a cost is an added bonus. David is one of the few blues teachers who can actually play the blues. His ear is spot on when it comes to transposing blues tunes and I soak up whatever tidbits he imparts. I have learned from him on Truefire as well as Happy Traums site and am never disappointed. Nice work David..thanks Bruce G.
Genius teaching. One of the few YT guitar teachers who actually employs rhythmic "counting"-- an essential that's fundamental everywhere in music other than guitar.
Hi David, I've done a few of your more advanced courses from Truefire, but still find these basics very refreshing and pick up little variations that make you think... that was so obvious, but I had missed it. Format, pace and arrangements are just spot on! Thanks.
Brilliant teaching here and through this whole E-Blues series. In an hour or two, any armchair picker can be playing like the old black blues greats. I could use a bit more clarity on the chord voicings, but they're not difficult.
Really well explained. I'm pretty much a beginner at this stuff and though I find it difficult keeping it all together , that's just practice. Importantly this is the sound I wanted to play guitar for.
Hey Brother David, you are the bomb! I have a few of your TrueFire courses as well and am patiently wood shedding through them. These blues tidbits are so great, easily digestible and I feel I'm in the hands of a kind, loving maestro. BTW, I had the great fortune to open for Brownie and Sonny at the Gaslight for a week in '69 or so. And they both were the same as you, gentle and open hearted.
That's what I truly love most about David's great lessons!! David is always so "matter a fact" explains important items that never made much sense to me.....and here a great example is his explanation of the third position E chord and how it relates back to the open B 7 chord and the top three strings......I've always wondered how this could be an E chord. But then, David goes even further to explain how licks correlate to all 4 chords!! This is wonderful stuff especially when one has limited time to study/practice and yet wants a lot of 'bang for the buck' and just like this WWI expression, his lessons are certainly dynamite!! Jim C.
I find it very very helpful, and at the right speed. Onlym sometimes you say "go here", and at times it's difficult to find it, or it could be easier to say "go here at 10th fret.." But it's just my personal speculation. Thank you very much!
Indeed these are great lessons. Unfortunately, I had a hand injury some 20 yrs ago and have shied away from fingerstyle. I can use my index finger fine but the 2nd (middle) finger is pretty stiff. So I now mostly use a pick.
Thanks David, while I was aware of these chord shapes individually, this lesson really helped tie them all together for me. I will take your advice and build some eight bar pieces integrating the shapes.
Wonderful. I'm following you perfectly, but you need to explain how we get that much grime on our instruments. No matter how much I neglect mine, it stays relatively clean.
Hi David from South Australia and thank you. I have played for a long time but I've been delving into the blues lately on my Martin 00028ec. Your lessons are wonderful! Very easy to follow and helpful. Your presentation is gentle, intelligent and very well spoken. I really love your teaching. I'm interested in your guitar too. Is that a Martin M35? Thanks again. Matthew
I am getting into finger picking blues guitar, going through this string thing. I like your sound, what strings, name brand and gauge are you using. I will purchase your course on TrueFire after reading the comment that you have one there.
This is great, David! I particularly like being able to see the fingering you're using on these chords and runs. A question: in the final 9th fret position do you have a note that you're alternating with the low E to keep the groove going? Seemed like there was one in the other positions, but I wasn't seeing/hearing it on the 9th fret position.

The counting is entirely invaluable! 'A one anna two'. This makes it so much more comprehensible.

These are the best lessons I have ever seen about playing music.❤🦋
Best Blues lessons ive EVER seen! Thank you David, i'm actually really starting to grasp how the 12 Bar Blues work.

You are an awesome teacher. These lessons are terrific. Thank you!
I’m grateful for the guidance! Thank you.
Such good lessons, built from the ground up, opening the door and letting in the light. Many thanks.

These are great lessons. I would also like to see a similar series for A. You do a great job.
I'd love an "Idle Moments" lesson. I'd pay for that. A series on fingerstyle acoustic jazz would also be great.
Thanks David! Much appreciated. I have a couple of your instructional from Truefire, and very much enjoy your teaching.
truly mezmerizing! Great analysis of time- and how it relates to the essence of the blues. thanks!
Thanks, Philippe!
Thank you David
Thanks for the video, very helpful and informative.
Fantastic, just what I need 😍 subbed. Thanks 👍

Challenging. Useful. Thank you 🙏

Great lesson. Thank you!
Good stuff here............thanks pal........
Thank you David,I like your approach to these different chord inversions, very helpful .
Just what I always wanted: A lesson on how to put it all together.

Thanks, Matthew! Those Clapton 000's are really nice guitars :-).Glad to hear you're enjoying the lessons! I'm playing a '50s 00-18.
Hey man! These are really great lessons, they are truly helpful! Just got a question: would this style be more delta or chicago blues?

Super!
Hi David - thanks mate. Nick Australia.
Is it possible to also show the Tab on the screen somewhere whilst taking us through the examples?
Hi Nick! It probably is, but it's clearly beyond my technical capacities at the moment :-). Good idea, though.
fall into the groove with David Hamburger
No bs blues lessons.
