    Albania is still relatively new to tourism, there's a lot to be done to atract more tourist. Transportation and garbage collections are the biggest concern. I hope you had a ok time there .

    • @id2888
      @id2888 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, Albania has 20% increase in tourism each year.. To be honest, tourist's are the one that creates most of the garbage's hence the country is struggling to deal with it because the infrastructure is not build to deal with a surge of people during the summer months.. Town like Dhermi or small cities like Saranda and the surrounding villages do not exceed 100,000 inhabitants and during summer they have 1 million visitors. I wish people are more considerate!

    As an Albanian, you don't quite realize how much a foreigner has to struggle when he gets in your country! These type of unbiased videos are so realistic and eyes opening. Poor infrastructure, not even the bare minimum, road signs....Dirt and garbage everywhere. Gabriel's video on Shkodra was self explainatory, he suffered to get even to the main attraction of the city, shkodra castle!
    Same in here....if a foreigner has no local contacts, it is sooo tough to know how to get in the nice beaches. Forget public transport, of course....
    Thanks Gabriel for your series of videos in Albania, I really enjoyed them, even though they made me a bit sad.
    Good luck on your travels.

Kujton ti se Grabrieli nuk i ka pare ato qe the? I ka pare, por tregon vetem gjerat e mira kurse ti si shqiptar flet vetem per gjerat e keqija, a thua se ska shtet ne bote me probleme. Erald M are you on drugs? Infrastructure along the coast is relatively new. The road was comfortable. The beach even though popular does not have paved walkways or shinny buildings since the government is looking for a 5 star hotel at the site from private investors. Many of the hotels Gabriel was staying are clandestine and will be out of business when the government finds investor. To my point of view Gabriel was unprepared for the journey even though he is a seasoned traveler. He got scammed by the taxi driver who charged him $40 in VLORA . Gabriel relies heavily on google for his travel preparations. He had a chance to talk to locals in Berat, or SHkoder or Lushnja and they know and would have given him advice. I agree with you about the filth , especially filth in Shkodra was beyond belief . They have a lazy women mayor over there which according to me should be hanged at the main square.

    I was there for camping with a few friends and it was amazing . I have to lift my things in my back through the rocky path , but this is adventure and you have to chalange your self . It was amazing . Some people need infrastructure , but that will ruin the nature . You have to try Gjipe ! I have maked a hiking through there and a camping to .

    I visited Albania from Corfu in 1994. Things were dire then but your footage shows a country on the up. And that coastline, wow, the last remaining unspoilt coastline on the Med.

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah there are definitely some great spots, I saw a lot of beautiful beaches from the bus going south as well. But as you'll see in my next video it's not all uncrowded like this, the next place I went was insanely packed. I'm sure it's changed a heck of a lot since '94.

    • @chaatman5754

      Oh, I just popped over to Saranda from Corfu for one day. The memories that stick in my head are the kids that came to greet me and the empty shops. Folk were friendly enough but it was obvious that people had very little left after the troubles. Luckily, I took over some pens and small toys for the kids, I was tipped off in Corfu that it would be nice to take something for them, I'm glad I did :-) Saranda was rough at the time, buildings were falling apart and the roads were awful. But saying that, the harbour area was nice and I remember a small beach which was clean. I'd like to go back sometime, Saranda looks lovely now compared to what it was and I imagine there's plenty of touristy stuff now as I believe the ferry still comes across daily. I lived in Corfu at the time and looked out across to Albania every day, I'd to visit my old home as well, two reasons to return to my youth and make that trip!

      Just keep an eye on it. When it isn't a crowded beach I'm not that worried about it. If it's a crowded beach then I take extra precautions like try to tie it to something like a beach umbrella so it can't be grabbed easily, or else bury my important things in the sand and then put my towel over it.

      Please explain to me in what way was I negative? Please, I would really love to know.
      Please explain to me why are Albanian hospitals only expensive to "us" Russians, Greeks and Serbs, but are free for the rest of Europe.
      While you post disgusting nationalistic comment to a simple joke regarding rock climbing, I am the one being "negative"?

      Vladimir Spasojević I dont know from which Country your from mate, but Greeks and Serbian mostly hate Albania and talk shit about Albanians that's why we don't like but always talking for the majority as long as someone is nice to me I'll be nice too without caring where from.

    Gabriel, how do you protect your wallet and phone etc. when you go swimming if you don't have a car to lock them in?

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Depends on the beach but generally I just keep an eye on it when I'm in the water. If it's an especially busy beach and somewhere with a higher chance of crime then what you can do is put your valuables in the sand underneath your towel, then leave your bag next to your towel with nothing too valuable in it, basically as a decoy. If someone takes it then at least you don't lose your cash, ID, etc. And ideally go to the beach with as few valuables as necessary.

    I hate the fact that Albanians get so upset about a small comment or an opinion... I mean grow up. And I know really good that people don't appreciate so much Albania so they can support them racism... you're talking about your country getting bullied from other balkan countries, but you're bullying people with a slaving or russian-serbian like last names... and stop saying over and over that it would be better if communism and civil war didn't exist, if you believe that, why don't you help your country grow. Stop complying about the others saying that the country has to many rubbish... I have seen Albania in the winter... why don't you clean up in winter? Why don't you make rules about littering and star recycling? And I am pretty sure that it's not only tourist who litter... a 70% of garbage is from the owners of the country... and about hospital treatment that I read before... dude, I got poisoned and the doctors didn't realised it in time so I nearly died... and drugs from the drugstores there are not good enough for you to getting better... in fact everything is wrong there... I am glad that I am adult and I am not forced by my mum to go there any more...
    One last thing... stop compering your country with others... fix your issues and then talk... only Valbona is close to what standards tourists are interested in and I am not even from the north

    • @henrietta7534
      @henrietta7534 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cuni Lagjes you seem to talk before thinking... I am not trying to be rude or something and sorry if what I said makes you feel bad... but if Albanians meaning me and my parents too, were smart and had enough education they wouldn't been stuck in the what balkans have to say about the country... I am mostly concerned about the racism albanians show to the people... why don't them just let it go...? If they do this I am pretty sure everything will get better... and if you're still waiting for government to change mind, oh my God wake up and try to fix the problems by yourself.
