I made several modifications to the Sabrent docking station to improve air flow. 1. I removed both the internal and external fan grills. 2. I replaced the external grill with a standard type 80mm fan grill, but I left off the internal one because it really isn't needed. 3. I replaced the low-profile rubber feet with 5/8" high ones. Overall, this has tripled the air flow through the case (best guess) and allows me to leave the plastic cover on. What follows are instructions on how to do this modification.
    1. Remove the four rubber feet. They are glued in position but can be easily removed with a small flat blade screw driver.
    2. Remove the four screws you find underneath the rubber feet with a small Phillips screw driver.
    3. Remove the screws holding the fan and grill in place.
    4. Carefully, pry off the bottom of the case with a jeweler's type flat blade screw driver (very small).
    5. Once the base is off the case remove the fan and the internal grill.
    6. Now, in reverse order, replace all the parts except for the internal grill.
    7. Attach the new grill on the bottom.
    8. Attach the new rubber feet with longer screws. You'll need longer screws due to the added height of the new rubber feet. Your modification is done.
The rubber feet are available on eBay. I used 5/8" tall x 3/4" wide ones. However, in hindsight, I think 1/2" x 1/2" ones would work better. I used the 5/8" ones because I had them laying around. The 80mm grills are available on eBay. They are the standard type looking grills that you see on computers. The longer screws you can find at Lowe's, Home Depot or any farm implement store.

@@michaeljillian3657 You're welcome. I just wanted to help others improve the design of the case. I'm surprised that Sabrent didn't design it this way in the first place. It would have only added a dollar or so to the cost. If you were to see my case, you would never know that's it's been modified. It looks factory correct.

@@mikekollin4271 I couldn't find any 1/2" x 1/2" rubber feet, but I did find .47" (high) x 0.79" (width) ones on Amazon that should work well. The reason I like them is that they are tapered (like the ones I used) and have a metal insert to keep the screw from stripping through the feet.
Here is the link on Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B0B1JGGWHQ/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?pd_rd_i=B0B1JGGWHQ&pd_rd_w=mldS7&content-id=amzn1.sym.386c274b-4bfe-4421-9052-a1a56db557ab&pf_rd_p=386c274b-4bfe-4421-9052-a1a56db557ab&pf_rd_r=3NAW0YQSQ5CJEC29XS23&pd_rd_wg=lVOj4&pd_rd_r=14a2fcc4-e0f9-421b-9400-233c826dc468&s=kitchen&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWxfdGhlbWF0aWM&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExMEc2SUNYQjE4OEk0JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzYyMjMxMlVFUElZVEQwNUpEWSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjA0NTMzM0dCVjRJUFk3S1hGSCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2RldGFpbF90aGVtYXRpYyZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1
You should be able to use the screws that came with the Sabrent docking station to mount the rubber feet. However, one word of CAUTION: If you decide to use the larger screws that come with the rubber feet from Amazon, pretest them by carefully screwing one part way into the plastic stanchion on the docking station. If it feels like it's going to break or crack, then you need to use the smaller screws that came with the station or drill the holes out larger.
If you do decide to drill them out be sure and use a drill bit that is only "slightly" larger than the current mounting hole - and do so slowly and carefully. If you crack or damage the stanchion, you won't be able to mount the rubber feet. However, if that happens contact me and I can tell you how to repair the plastic. I can be reached by using my online name of rvalens2 at gmail. By the way, If you would like to see pictures of what the conversion looks like (once completed) email me and I'll send you some photos.

    Great video!
This is a really dumb question, but seeing as I have never used one of these before (I'm only now needed one), once finished do you press the power button or do you eject as normal with any hard drive?

    • @michaeljillian3657
      @michaeljillian3657  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Not a dumb question. Eject safely as you would with any drive. Once the computer prompts thats it safe to remove you may press the button to shut it down. then you may remove the drive safely.

hey! thanks for asking, Ive been using this dock every once in a while and it still does a great job. I dont think I have had any bad experiences. I havent had to write too much data to an internal drive in the past 2 months, so I dont know how well it handles writing something like 3tb of data (which is something I used to do more often). but for the 100gb backups its been doing well. it gets warm but not hot and transfers at USB 3.0 speeds with SATA 6 - thats like 110Mb/s on a 3.5" drive..
I never use on 2.5 inch drives I just use the other easier powerless adapter I show in this video th-cam.com/video/P9CSOCVhHwo/w-d-xo.html

Such as inside your computer and see if it works there. If it doesn't work on the enclosure clearly something is wrong with the enclosure. Just make sure that everything is set up right. And the drives are slid all the way into the connectors. And that the power button is pushed on.

This is a TERRIBLE product, I formatted a hard drive, then when I plugged in another hard drive, even though I used the Windows drive ejection option, the name of the previous hard drive (the one I formatted) kept showing up all the time and somehow imaged another hard drive and gave it the same name. I lost valuable data. I threw the SABRENT in the trash. I also gave it a bad review on Amazon.
