Why SSH & Web Terminal as opposed to Terminal & SSH? The security rating of the one you recommended is "1" (lowest) vs the "official" add-on version which they give a "6" security rating (highest).
Well, it works and the security rating is probably because of the fact that you can set the security very low. It is however developed by one of the core developers of Home Assistant.

@@SmartHomeJunkie Hey Ed, at 1:25 after searching for the add-on you selected the "SSH & Web Terminal" from the "Home Assistant Community Add-Ons" section (HACS?). There is another add-on in the "Official add-ons" section above called "Terminal & SSH". I believe this is the one that others here have been having issues with because I ran into the same problem. It looks to me like the "Terminal & SSH" (from Official section) doesn't allow you to add a username in the Configuration, and defaults to using the user from your client PC. I can see in the "Terminal & SSH" logs that I get an "Invalid user from port " error. Since I can't specify a username within this add-on's Configuration, I'm unable to progress. This looks like a bug in the "Official add-on", so the "Home Assistant Community Add-on" looks like the way to go, which most folks seem to have figured out already. Maybe this can provide some clarity though so others don't waste time trying to use the wrong add-on like I did :)

Its not accepting my password for some reason? Edit: ehh, its case sensitive on the username, even tho I put first letter in caps it automatically made it lowercase and then it worked if I used lowercase.

Normally when you get an error like that, it means that either the plugin is not ready loading or that there is an error. Your log file does not give an error, so it should be a matter of waiting. If not, I am not sure what happens on your side 🤷🏼 Maybe a reboot might do the trick, but it's a wild guess.
the username and password to set in the configuration of this add-on is one that we invented? Or does it correspond to an existing one that we have to generate in a web page or system? I can not start this add-on
I was just looking at this, and saw the following in the documentation. Option: password Set a password for login. We do NOT recommend this variant. Why is it NOT recommended? Security I assume.
I tried to install acces bij ssh but got the following issue First there is no configuration like in the movie and second there is only options and that tells me the following init_commands: [] packages: [] share_sessions: false ssh: allow_agent_forwarding: false allow_remote_port_forwarding: false allow_tcp_forwarding: false authorized_keys: [] compatibility_mode: false password: '' sftp: false username: hassio zsh: true Waht do i wrong ?
You don't need the key for putty AFAIK, I had an issue with putty not working, however, I had capitalized the username and password. Make sure both are in lowercase and you it worked for me.
@@AndyHoe you need to add the repository in 'Repositories' underneath the 3 dots in the top right. The repository link you can find at: addons.community/

Its not accepting my password for some reason?
Edit:
ehh, its case sensitive on the username, even tho I put first letter in caps it automatically made it lowercase and then it worked if I used lowercase.
I was wondering if the username and password are completly new or are they those from my HA session ?
They are new as far as I remember.
Good day, Hi I encountered some errors after I installed this SSH from HA version 7 and 7.1. Its show Bad Gateway after I click Start. But another or other SSH its working but no Protection function. Any solution to solve this...Thanks
Not sure. This often means that the addon is not yet started fully when you want to access it.
Followed your instructions to the letter - created my .pub file, added to the configuration file in HA - I started the Add-On, I see no errors in the log....but when I click on the Open Web-UI -- all I get is 502: Bad Gateway error --- any ideas? I am running HA Supervised on Debian 11.
Normally when you get an error like that, it means that either the plugin is not ready loading or that there is an error. Your log file does not give an error, so it should be a matter of waiting. If not, I am not sure what happens on your side 🤷🏼
Maybe a reboot might do the trick, but it's a wild guess.
@@SmartHomeJunkie Appreciate your response. I gave it more than 20 minutes - and it still did not work. I am 'boggled' as to what it is.
@@bearhntr928 That's strange. I don't think I can help you with this. It's probably something specific in your setup. 🤷🏼
Great!! Thanks! Spot on!
Thank you!!!
You are very welcome!
the username and password to set in the configuration of this add-on is one that we invented? Or does it correspond to an existing one that we have to generate in a web page or system? I can not start this add-on
Yes, you can choose your own username and password.
I was just looking at this, and saw the following in the documentation.
Option: password
Set a password for login. We do NOT recommend this variant.
Why is it NOT recommended? Security I assume.
Yes, using the SSH key is the most secure.
I tried to install acces bij ssh but got the following issue
First there is no configuration like in the movie and second there is only options and that tells me the following
init_commands: []
packages: []
share_sessions: false
ssh:
allow_agent_forwarding: false
allow_remote_port_forwarding: false
allow_tcp_forwarding: false
authorized_keys: []
compatibility_mode: false
password: ''
sftp: false
username: hassio
zsh: true
Waht do i wrong ?
The configuration should be in the addon
Not working anymore, the new ssh plugins don't have configuration
I don't think so. The add-on still has a configuration section in my case. Are you sure you use the same add-on? There are two different add-ons...
Thank you!
You are very welcome!
Great video! Can you point me to how to put the ssh key into putty?
Not sure what you mean. I never had to add the SSH key into putty. Actually I do not use putty.
You don't need the key for putty AFAIK, I had an issue with putty not working, however, I had capitalized the username and password. Make sure both are in lowercase and you it worked for me.
Thanks
perfect thanks
You're welcome!
Dank u voor jou video!
Graag gedaan!
Think you so much
You are very welcome. Thank you too!
dankjewel ed!
I caanot see community add-ons, just officials. what did i do wrong?
Did you turn on advanced mode in your profile? I am not sure if this fixes it, but maybe that will fix this.
@@SmartHomeJunkie fixed it already. made a new VM with the new Homeassistant. deleted it :O
@@SmartHomeJunkie I have the same issue, only see the officials. I am in advanced mode...
@@AndyHoe you need to add the repository in 'Repositories' underneath the 3 dots in the top right. The repository link you can find at: addons.community/
Thanks! You are best.. :*
Thanks!
Need advanced mode for the user to see ssh addons
Indeed
i cant type in my password in cmd and in the log is says (Invalid user Jeppenielsen from 192.168.1.119 port 55354)
found it out, u cant use big letters in ssh configuation :)
Great to hear that you got it working. Just one step at a time, but you will get there!
At 7.13 it is asking my password . Given correct password - but permission denied ? Any thoughts ?
Did you add your ssh key correctly? I also understood from others that the username and password should be lowercase.
@@SmartHomeJunkie Had this same issue and lowercase fixed my issue. Thanks, soo much!
I tried but at the last step they ask for a password but when i want to type my password. It will not type. Very nice vid
Usually for security purposes it does not show the keystrokes in the terminal but it is typing when you hit the keys. Just try typing your password when prompted and see if that works.
Might be a security thing yes, just like @Evan says.
Thank you so much :-)
You are so welcome!
How do i com in Super user?
It doesn't exist anymore. Go to Settings instead.
@@SmartHomeJunkie : als beginnende home assitent gebruiker zou je dit even willen uitleggen. Want ik wil graag spotify toevoegen.
@@henkschepers5137 You can go to the Settings menu and then choose Add-Ons. The rest is the same.
Your Vids are awesome thank you so much A+++++
Thank you for your kind words
@@SmartHomeJunkie just a quick one how do i add to " !secret Terminal_pass " it states invalid YALM please help
You can add your passwords to secrets.yaml and point to those in your configuration.yaml
Thanks...
You're welcome!
Dont work with MAc. No insrtructions how to use and open Terminal. Why is everything so damn difficult to explane. This was no help.
I am sorry to hear this. I switched over to windows in my latest videos.
Is dit beter dan Samba? Of is dit gewoon hetzelfde principe?
SSH is heel wat anders dan Samba.
@@SmartHomeJunkie okay, merci. Ik ben vrij nieuw met dit haha. Wat raad je aan om de configuratie bestanden te bewerken vanaf een Windows pc op een Raspberry Pi?
Visual studio code 👍🏻👍🏻
