  • Today, it is my pleasure to share with you all one of my favorite trucks of all times. Here we have an Ez-Pack HCSL manual side load body mounted on a CCC Centurion chassis. I grew up chasing slightly newer versions of these Ez-Pack side loaders, so it was truly great to be able to go out and film one of the few that still remain.
    This was filmed on a Monday morning in Portland, OR collecting residential garbage. A huge thank you goes out to the friendly people at Gruetter Sanitary Service for making this video possible!

    If ever a garbage truck needed a hopper cam, it'd be this one!

    I drove a Volvo with a Newer 24 yard Version of this truck with a covered hopper and tag axle. It was a 24 yarder and would hold 12-13 tons on a normal basis. I was constantly adjusting the proxy switch for the hopper as it would get stuck all the way out and not return.

    Nice video! Truck looks great, and man does it sound good too! Those zarns make this truck feel even older.Love the tipper too. Wish more MSLs were still around, and even better when they double side so you could get footage from both sides. That was really nice of the driver to tell you where he was going to be when he came back from unloading. Enjoyed the video!

    Sounds like a Cat 3208 for sure. I remember that engine from the 1986 Blue Bird All-American FE school buses I used to ride to school.

    Awesome classic truck! That diesel just screams. Thise tippers and packer look very cool. And it does do a pretty good job too. Great catch

    Cool! Not too often that you see a toter tipper, (or two different kinds of tippers on the same truck). There used too be a truck with a toter tipper that would do the greens where I lived but the company switched it to a Perkins. And wow that is one slow packer. I wonder how much time these guys waste sitting around waiting for the hopper to clear up. Nice video!

    Great video! Do you know anything about the engine. Has it been rebuilt over the years or has it just been maintained really well?

    Sounds like some sort of V8 diesel, anyone have of idea of what it might be? 7.3 IDI? 3208 Cat?

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not the 7.3, 3208 is a possibility.

    • @HD5830Gamer
      @HD5830Gamer 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      crazyjdkid You sure? the 7.3 IDI has that exact same sound, and is considered a medium duty diesel. The DV550 or International 9.0 V8 is also a possibility. That truck looks to be class 6. But the engine is definitely a V8 without any question.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HD5830Gamer Yes the 7.3 was a good medium duty engine but it wasn't put on very many of these applications, It just didn't have the power early in its career. I just looked it up and found a flyer for it, this truck has the Cat 3208 V8 and it was Naturally Aspirated. Being NA probably gave it the old 7.3 idi sound

    • @HD5830Gamer
      @HD5830Gamer 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      crazyjdkid Could you send me the link to it? I had a feeling behind my head that it had a 3208 Cat, those engines were garbage, few people swap them into pickups though.
      Something has me thinking that a smaller engine like the Cummins 4bt or 5.9 6bt could power this truck, since pulling capacity is all in the gearing anyways.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      HD5830Gamer Sure! here is the link to the flyer for this truck on Ebay(www.ebay.com/itm/1980-CCC-Centurion-LE2632-2-Truck-Sales-Brochure-wf4719-593LZ1-/370775099388?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5653eb07fc) A 4bt would struggle in the truck, especially one from the 80s. A 5.9 could do it but thats less then half the liter output it actually has. The truck is a lot heavier then it looks.
