@@DiscoverDoubleBass I really luv how Katie goes right into beginning broom and sweep, mopping left snd right hand school composition. She's serious, no one liners, jokes. She takes you directly to furniture polishing, floor waxing, where her fingers are going right away. Very important concepts for any level no mater where one would vacuuming the carpet or painting a room, she's not messing around, I'd have paid her for a video real talk. If she'd have kept going she'd have gotten into applying wall stick rollers. She gets many stripes for this one, discover bass gets them for featuring her.
thank you for this!! i’ve been playing violin in my orchestra for quite some time now and volunteered to switch my instrument for some concerts because of a bass player shortage. i’ve been kind of nervous to make the switch so this definitely eased some anxiety!
My girlfriend's son (13) has a chance to play a bass at school. He plays the cello now, so I am hoping he gets into the bass! I am 68 and would love to learn it!! I played drums, but always loved bass.Great video! Thanks for posting :)
Always nice to review the fundamentals, the very first thing that I did when I got my bass (well, apart than learning to hold the bass) was focus on these concepts until it became natural and automatic to my playing.
I'm a high school junior who has been playing the violin for roughly 5 years now and I'm currently learning how to play the double bass as a secondary instrument in my school to help my teacher because he doesn't have enough bass players and I found this helpful! :) Thank you so much
Fantastic thanks - I'm a basic jazz bass player because my main instrument is violin (jazz & classical) but in my school program I have 3 classical bassists I have trained that want to get into Jazz - definitely sharing this video with them. Thanks - it's like a free masterclass.
Came across this in my exploration of this instrument I already for long time wanted to start with... And your lessons are so useful; many thanks Katie!!!!
You can do it! It just takes time to get comfortable. Also check out our free lessons library to see if there's anything which might help discoverdoublebass.com/lessons-library/
Yes, it's a great instrument and the full details are half way down this page. discoverdoublebass.com/geoff-chalmers It's been used by many of our tutors and it's fun to hear it by different players.
I am retired music teacher. 68 years old. My sister is giving me a Double Bass that someone gave her...I am hoping to learn to play. I am hopeful....and hopeful I can learn through this video and others. I figure it is worth a try.
I admire the bass players. Although the sound of a bass is essential over anything else, they are not being stood up in a stage. Also have to pay extra dollar when flying, carrying heavy items everywhere.
May I ask why do you do that there's an E open string and you choose to play E on the D string? If you choose E open string instead will that be correct still?
I'm not quite sure what part of the lesson you're referring to, but the E on the D string is an octave higher than the open E string, so it depends on the context of what you're playing as to which you would choose.
I play electric bass, i recently found out my school has a double bass in my classroom cupboard, so im determined to learn to play it so i can show my students 😂
This video surely inspires me to play. I ain't a musician but I wish to begin learning bass real soon. Double bass okay for beginners? (It's bloody expensive)
Tengo un problema con mi bass cuando le afinó en mi la última cuerda en dónde me tendría que dar do me da Do# entonces me toca bajarle a re# para que me dé exacto. Cómo puedo corregir ese problema.
Thank you! I've been buzzing in my left hand - I'm self taught from grade 3 and this vid has helped me so so much!
Glad it helped, that's great to hear.

Anyone can learn and we all start as beginner's, It's an incredible instrument and I'm sure you would love it.
@@DiscoverDoubleBass I always wanted to play European classical music on the bass. Danke
Honestly the physicality of stringed instruments discourages a lot of people. I think the piano is the "easiest" to understand music theory on
@@danielmoreno7056 But you tend to resonate with the bass. Instantaneous and heavy!

been playing electric bass for a bit and I'm just here trying to see the differences lol
I am 2end year in millwakee youth sinfany ocstra
2+2=4 a fantastic Lesson.....
Is that fret buzz ok on a double bass?
Not for classical music, but a bit of growl on the low notes works great for jazz!
❤
Arco?

I've played electric BASS for 50+ yrs. Always wanted an upright double BASS got one from prop sounds good. "GREAT INFO" !! 🖖
I'm here to sample...
I need psychobilly lessons... Can you recommend any one that specializes in this?
I'm afraid I'm not aware of any.
