This is absolutely fantastic! A lot of Neil's parts in this era don't sound complicated, but when you see them being played you understand how much is actually going on.
WOW! I have been a Rush fan since 1983. This is AMAZING!!! There is no doubt this is one of the best RUSH songs ever! This performance is EXTRAORDINARY! WOW!! I am speechless! GREAT, GREAT, GREAT JOB!
Thank you! I'm happy about this one although there are some small details that I would correct now to get even closer to the original version. I love this song!
Thank you! I have been playing for about 35 years, with some years off here and there when I went to college. Favorite Rush song to play: Probably Subdivisions. More difficult: Probably La Villa Strangiato. Other bands: Many, too many to list (including Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, etc). Other favorite rock drummers: Zonder, Bruford, Harrison, Collins, Portnoy, D'Virgillio, Rockenfield, Bonham, Beauford, Rullo, Novello, Negus, Mosely, Bozzio, etc, etc.
Rush definitely reached an "orchestrational" level with this composition! The sound is huge, the emotions are high and yet, they captured it all in a 5min song. I'm always amazed. Power Windows is one of my all time favorite albums.
You cant replace Neal Peart. That's impossible. But this guy is accomplishing the impossible. Big fan. Being a drummer myself, I look up to this guy alot. What a talent.
Dreams flow across the heart land feeding on the fires. Dreams transport desires drive you when you're down. Dreams transport the ones who need to get out of town. Very special song.....you did a fantastic job!
Fast forward to 2022. Neal the professor is gone. But, with guys like you keeping his memory alive and well he'll always be around. Good cover. Miss ya' Neal!! VIA RUSH!!!
Thanks! The section you mention is typical Neil: he builds tension with subtle things and suddenly releases it with a good rock beat played with power and groove. He's a musician, not just a drummer! ;)
"Another day as drab as today is more than a man can endure" is exactly how I felt when coming home from work today. Until I watched this. Thanks for turning this drab day around! Outstanding.
Brilliantly performed! Love, love this song! Another one of Rush's exceptional "B-side" wonders off one of their finest albums to date. Thanks for sharing!
A thousand congrats! And also, thanks for the passion you injected into this piece. This song is central to me. The dreams, the aspiration and the eventual crystallization of your most cherished goals after the hard work you put into them are the theme behind the music. The ever unfolding story of my life... Once again, thanks!
That was excellent as a long time Rush/Neil/drummer fan i know how hard and detailed neil's playing is -a real achievement to even get a facsimile of it you nailed dude.
Dude you are freaking machine .. You play just like Peart the beats crisp, clean and down to the millisecond with no variation. Which makes you more like Peart than any other drummer. They need to hire you and go on the road
Nice Job keeping to the true essence of what Neil does. That is one of those great hidden treasure songs from G under P. I was glad to see they played it on the last tour.
I think I enjoy this one the most of all you've posted. So many different patterns in this song. Like you said, just remembering them all must be a hell of a task and you play them all beautifully, all while maintaining the GROOVE no less. Well done!
@Astrotama This is one of these songs that they should bring back in their shows. I saw it performed live during the Power WIndows 1986 tour (jaw dropping moment) and I just can't imagine how much it would be spectacular to watch now. Power Windows is a favorite of Geddy. Time to bring some songs back from that album!
Videos like this only increase my appreciation of the song. I guess that's part of why you do them -- not just to show your own skills, but to let people see how much goes into the drumming on the original.
It sure opened my eyes , as when watching Neil live you get glimpses of him , This shows you what he puts his body through...for 3 hrs ...I can also see why he retired, that kind of playing you need to be in top form, age finally gets you..
Such an underrated song and to me a fantastic period in their writing of great music. I think you really nailed it. Love to watch these videos. Thanks for sharing man!
I am amazed. Well I'd really like to live nearby you, since I perfected that spacey guitar tone from my childhood's dreams and it would be one of the best days of my life to play this song with a DRUMMER like you.
Bravo..bravo...even tho' I've had the lp since it came out I really didn't listen to it until a week or so ago...watching someone play the drum parts to this actually seems to make the tune become more alive..
Rumor has it Ged & Alex might do a 50 year anniversary announcement . I wish they would see your videos, it would be great, cool as hell to see you play with them, you would do justice.
wow your smooth. 1:03-1:30, others have played this and while the notes were correct the feeling was just not there as it was with your playing. Watching you play this was truly chilling. You are fantastic and one of my alltime fav;s to watch.
You had me all the way up to the bridge and then the groove just dropped. I've noticed a lot of drummers struggling with that but for me, it's very natural and easy and it's what makes it groove. That is a Neil Peart staple lick and if you're going to do Rush covers, you got to know and be able to play that 16th note triplet feel ride pattern. This video was done 7 years ago so I'm sure you're much better by now. I'll be looking for more recent videos. Thumbs up!
Jose you such a jackass. This guy is excellent yes he missed a beat but played right through it on some really hard drumming. Let me see your video and if you can come even close to this guy I will eat my words. For now you are just a wanna be punk.
@@STP43fan you're kidding me right? I have one Rush video on YT and the one I did is much harder than this one. However, this song is not easy either, mainly because IMHO, you have to emulate NP's very heavy natural feel for the drum parts he plays. This is where the talent and natural feel for playing drums is a huge factor and where practicing your rudiments stands out. I'm just being honest and only trying to help Astrotama, and telling him how great he is and not providing him with any constructive criticism, is not to his benefit. I think we already know he is a good drummer and playing any NP drum parts on any Rush song and posting the video on YT for all to see, just take some big cojones. How about pointing out some things I feel he can improve upon. I'm sure by now he's much better and has moved to playing even more complicated parts. If I thought he was really bad I would have never posted anything. Going back to the song he played, that is probably one of my favorite songs on that album. The lyrics, the melody, just the arrangement and the drum parts NP plays are genius. This is one awesome song and Astrotama pointed out, there are many different beats, but the one I think is very critical and is difficult to play is the ride pattern, snare, and grove he plays during the chorus and the end of the song.
a few questions...how long have you been drumming for? what is your favourite Rush song to play and what is most technically difficult? apply these questions to a broader view: your favourite songs, regardless of band, to drum to and most technically challenging song? other favourite drummers? ps...enjoyed watching you passionately hit those skins...best!
One of the best songs they ever wrote, the choruses still give me chills I want to jam this song with you so bad
Chills...you nailed it...my favorite Rush song
This is absolutely fantastic! A lot of Neil's parts in this era don't sound complicated, but when you see them being played you understand how much is actually going on.
WOW! I have been a Rush fan since 1983. This is AMAZING!!! There is no doubt this is one of the best RUSH songs ever! This performance is EXTRAORDINARY! WOW!! I am speechless! GREAT, GREAT, GREAT JOB!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
This is still just unreal. I watch it a few times a year. Brilliantly done ✅
Thank you!
After all these years, still one of the best drum covers you have done.
Thank you! I'm happy about this one although there are some small details that I would correct now to get even closer to the original version. I love this song!
@@Astrotama Your hi-hat playing is fantastic!

It's really cool seeing drummers test themselves with Rush's material. That way new generations will keep Rush and Neil's spirit alive!RUSH on!🤟
Rock on!

Mad, MAD respect. You are astounding!! Neil Peart is NO small feat to duplicate, amazing. I was also the 10,000 viewer of this video!!
Dreams flow across the heart land feeding on the fires. Dreams transport desires drive you when you're down. Dreams transport the ones who need to get out of town. Very special song.....you did a fantastic job!
i wished he lived next door to me
Fast forward to 2022. Neal the professor is gone. But, with guys like you keeping his memory alive and well he'll always be around. Good cover. Miss ya' Neal!! VIA RUSH!!!
Such an awesome, underrated song.. the beat from 1:58 to 2:34 is so rad, it's always struck me as one that would be fun to play. Well done, as always!
Thanks! The section you mention is typical Neil: he builds tension with subtle things and suddenly releases it with a good rock beat played with power and groove. He's a musician, not just a drummer! ;)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….. you really do a perfect job on this. I love your commitment to nailing this drum part down.
oh my god man. you just murdered that tune! spot on!
really really damn near absolute perfection to the way Neil Played it .
Really good song
Been a rush fan for over 45 years and for life ❤

Fantastic. Cymbal pattern before the solo is wild!

It's actually from Power Windows but it is indeed a gem!

So smooth man, not pushed or 'rushed' it just flows- Still jealous about the sonic matched 2112 cymbal set. Whatever you paid, it was worth it...
Spot on. My favorite song off Power Windows, great job!!
Best Rush drummer on TH-cam
You should of been in Canada 🇨🇦, a night for Neil, we would of loved it ,your a beast

EXCELLENT choice of a song to do. One of my favorites from PW too. Great performance. Nice high-hat control.
