This scene really showed how funny Desi could be. Most of the time writers had him playing straight to Lucy's antics. Don't get me wrong, Desi was a BRILLIANT straight man but it was a treat to see his full range of talent.
I agree also. He had such an expressive face! Excellent for comedy! He was and is a pro! I had a roommate who was Cuban also and she bugged her eyes out just like him! I called her "The female version of Ricky Ricardo!" Sadly she passed away in 2010. I love and miss her so much!
This definitely had to have been one of the first times on TV that you see the dad taking an active role with the care of the children. In the 50s there was a lot of dads on TV who would talk to their kids but they weren’t telling bedtime stories

You both are so right. It had to do with the fact that he was Cuban. Remember they didn't want him to play Lucy's TV husband at the start. Because he wasn't American. But Lucy & Desi had to prove to CBS that he could really do it. I always said that Desi Arnaz was over looked. He was very Talented. In front of the camera & behind the camera. He was very successful running the Desilu studio.
I can't believe people were racist against him back then. Desi was a genius & made I Love Lucy funnier & some episodes were his ideas. The Lucy Show wasn't very funny.
Because american was (still) racist. Remember martin luther king? He was a history changer. Even his own people (american) had to go to march to earned equal rights as black people, let alone religion. I'm not saying that Americans are the worst, because there are a lot of countries just as cruel.
Of course we Lucy fans know there are two words we must never say; one is swell and the other is lousy. (and Fred says, "Well tell us the lousy one first.")
Ricky is speaking Spanglish which is a combination of English & Spanish. Desi Arnaz was very good at comedy & popping his eyes out, I always laugh whenever he pops his eyes out. He also made I Love Lucy funnier. He was a genius. Some episodes were his ideas. I can't forget that he was really handsome.
The first time I ever saw this was when I was in college back in the '90's, when I used to come into my dorm after work and grab a Coke and a snack and sit out in the lobby watching "I Love Lucy" when it used to air back-to-back on the WB at 11 pm or so. When this episode aired, I nearly fell outta my chair, I was laughing so hard, and slapping the arms of my chair, too!!! The part that got me was, "Estaba la grandmama en la cama...ARRGHM AARRRRGHM AAARRRGHM AAAARRRGHGHMMM!!!!!" He did that and THAT WAS IT!!! I WAS DEAD GONE!!! Fell OUT laughing!!!
It was easy to figure it out while watching his antics/performance. I am surprised he didn't scare the daylights out of "little Ricky" while acting out "the big bad wolf".!
I like to think the spanglesh was used for the broad appeal to allow us gringos with limited Spanish abilities to understand the story at a time in our country when Spanish was not routinely found In Television shows.
Desi was always my favorite. Been watching since 1956 when I was 4 years old. Handsome and brilliant. If only they stayed together. One of the greatest love stories of all time.
I like when Ricky figures out that the others were listening in. "At first I thought it was mice but then I tried to remember the last time I heard mice giggling. I didn't know you were there till the end" :)
Between "Little Red Riding Hood" and the panic they went into when Lucy said 'Ricky, this is it', I was almost ready to burst my lungs out of my throat.
You cut the best part! Fred mimicking Ricky's prancing. Still funny. Ive seen this hundreds of times and just noticed the I love lucy pillow in the crib, Ricky goofing the line where LRRH thanks the wolf instead of the hunter and finally, LRRH sits down to drink wine w the hunter. Lol
I love this episode. Despite how racism was like in the past, Desi still did his best to perform and he was amazing at it. Glad he had at least one person to support him through the series
Racism? I mean, I’m not denying it was there, but Desi was the driving force behind DESI-Lou studios, one of the biggest at that time. They were HUGE stars, how is that racist? Desi was the one who wrote most of the stuff that used his accent/Spanish for humor, it wasn’t some “racist” white guy
