Yangguan was the westernmost outpost of the empire and the last stop before travellers left on a long journey on the Silk Road. Saying goodbye at the Yangguan pass was like saying goodbye for many years.

@@ernie_m9982 it is a hard instrument to play and the notation is not like western notation so you have to learn that as well. Having said that, if you play any instrument try creating a piece with the pentatonic scale. You might be surprised.
@@ernie_m9982 Sort of? Make 50+ flash cards of the techniques and get used to the x & y coordinate notation. Really just take your time though.

@@sahayeda5220 I am just in the very beginning of this journey. I learn by watching and replicating videos of people playing guqin. You should definitely get one for yourself! Guqin is fun, challenging, and magical.

I'm not a musical person, but this piece somehow sent chills down my spine. I felt as if I could actually *see* the lonely travelers heading into a dusty path at dusk/dawn and their loved ones standing behind, waving them goodbye below the wind-eroded walls of the fortress establishment Yang Guan...

Guqin has been around almost 3,000 years in Eastern Asia. Yang Guan tune was composed in Tang Dynasty, 1,200 year ago and we are listening in this modern era. It is amazing how the musical instrument and tune connect us back in time. Well done Zi De Guqin Studio!!
Actually 3000years in China。you need to know Chinese if anyone wants to play this .because the Music scores is written by Chinese. I also play Guqin 古琴。
陽關三疊應該是宋明時候的曲譜了，不是唐代本來面目。
@@kk-gk6ds Well you need to know the symbols for thd techniques and you need to be able count to ten. So you get by with very little Chinese. Of course it makes things much easier if you have a Chinese speaking teacher.

For some reason, while listening to this score I can see in my mind's eye people bidding farewell at Yang Guan before going off on many-years journey to the West via the Silk Road.

Going westward from Yangguan(Sunny(or masculine) Gate) there would be no old friends for the rest of your life...... Actually, after Yangguan, one entered the endless desert with no ice caped mountains feeding water to form oasis. There was the end of cultural touch of of Han Chinese for a long time.

Yangguan San Die is one of my all-time favorite classic Chinese pieces, it's so deeply emotional. Anyone who hasn't heard it should also check out a version on the Guanzi, which is kind of like an ancient Chinese oboe.

I can't believe they used a part of the classic piece in the Untamed! This so fits the show ( Really all MDZS).
I actually hadn't realized this was used in CQL, but hearing this, it makes sense! I think it may be a reference, because this piece is actually an old poem, "A Sad Farewell at Yangguan Pass." Yangguan (阳关) meaning "sun gate," which was a mountain outpost connecting the Han and Tang dynasties.
In CQL/MDZS, when WWX and LWJ part, he paraphrases the old idiom, 你走你的阳关道，我走我的独木桥。("You go and walk your broad and sunny road, I’ll walk my single-plank bridge.") which is a reference to this poem. The "sunny road" uses the same characters as "sun gate," hence holding both a literal meaning and a historical reference.
I wouldn't be surprised, considering the love and care that went into CQL, that the production team would add this music in purposefully.

@@jenniferrose4321 no worries. Most of player have beautiful fingers, it's not easy to distinguish. But if men play Guqin, usually the vibrations are stronger than women, you can hear the difference.

I started learning this piece on the Qin.... for me it is deceptively hard cause I suck at hitting the note perfectly without sliding up to them lol. But it is a beautiful piece

It is for friend who will travel far to the west. The poet reads as:" Please take one more cup of wine, Once you passed the 'Yang Guan' sentry post, there would be no your old friend.
I interpret it as a great loss, one you can feel in the pit of your stomach that resonates deep within. Pretty much like potty time the morning after Taco Tuesday at Franks
