    Thanks for the video and great review. I know they are long as I am currently attempting to build the tyne dock iron ore loading stage in 4mm/ft and it is nearly 2 metres. This had 10 main bunkers over 2 tracks. However only 9 wagons per train were used because of the weight.

      That will be a very impressive model once it is done.

    They are an impressive set of nine wagons with their loads. I purchased the three packs also last weekend but arrived without the loads. I will have to look up my order as I am sure I asked for the wagons with them. Anyway, they are very beautifully detailed. clean printed info and run smoothly. The packaging is a bit flimsy and basic, but functional for storage. Between Accurascale and KR Models, they really are holding up the torch for the other main modeling names to highly produce detail items at a realistic price.

      I agree they are holding the torch. I understand there have been a few issues but I am hearing they are sorting through them 👍

    Iron ore Loads -height varied on the type of ore loaded, some photos I've seen the wagons look empty but they are not. The levers on the wagon sides are locking lever's for the doors which had to be released manually at Consett before unloading took place -which usually took about five minutes in total .So loads would be even - not mixed loads. 01s and Q7s were allowed 8 wagons plus brake van, when the 9Fs came they were allowed 9 wagons plus brake. Various diesels were tried [including Clayton Type 1s and a 46] then it was decided to run 24s in pairs and they were allowed 9 wagons without a brake van and NO banking assistance! [It was a struggle on wet days especially approaching Annfield East box where the gradient was 1 in 35]

      Great information. I think I’m going to go with a 9f for these models. I did think about two 24’s but there’s something about the look of the 9f and those wagons that just looks so right. Cheers

    Great overview of the consett wagons Aidan, they look like really good wagons and the quality of the product is fantastic, also excellent service from KR regarding the sending of a set of loads for the wagon that was missing them, I own the GT3 from the second production run and its one of my best models in my collection.

    • @AidansRailways
      @AidansRailways  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are a lucky man to have a GT3. I can honestly say their service has been great and the models are really nice. I have read of some issues with the wagons but I personally have not experienced them. They were so quick to send the missing loads and depending on the item I would certainly purchase from them again. Thanks David

      Hi and thank you for getting in touch. To be honest if I had not had the connection with the line and area they probably would have past me on the radar. I suspect that if the demand for these is high enough that KR Models may produce a second run as they now have the tooling and the cost of that and development are now out of the way. A lot of manufacturers are now doing second runs of late. Cheers

    Hi Aiden, Great review! I ordered two packs, but only one was sent and looking at the pack sent, one is missing its loads. This seems to be common practice which is unfortunate, but hopefully KR Models will be sorting this out.

    Hello, I pre-ordered 12 (4 packs) of these wagons and every B pack has a load missing, I received my missing load from Rails yesterday. I like everyone else had the screws working loose on the run, one of my wagons actually collapsed when running and the screws were left on the track, fortunately I found them. I did check the screws before placing them on the track, as I was forewarned by a video. After the collapse happened I examined all my wagons and half of them had the screw ready to drop off! So how do I stop this/ I applied a small amount of PVA to the tips of all the screws and let it dry for 24 hours, a drastic measure but all I could think of to cure the problem. I note one of your replies by Alan Massie mentioned "a bit of stud lock" I don't know what that is but I presume it is some sort of glue? As a fellow Geordie I also remember these wagons (I've had a few birthdays) and it is a shame the screws issue is spoiling what is a fantastic wagon. I have emailed KR models to inform them of the problem but as of now had no reply, Bill.

    • @AidansRailways
      @AidansRailways  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bill, 4 packs! That will be a long train. To be honest I have read of this issue online but I personally have not experienced it yet. To be fair what you have done will work. What I have chosen to do as a precaution after reading about this is to put a very small (and I cannot stress enough , very small) amount of lock tight on the threads of the body where the screws locate. Lock tight is more commonly used in the automotive industry to stop bolts working loose (sometimes used for example on bolts that secure callipers to hubs and such like). This stuff on a item such as a model will act in the same way as glue. Lock tight does exactly what it says. It will lock the thread tight and even I am aware that I could have significant problems if I wanted to remove the screw at a later date. But for the time being I can't actually see why I would need to. The decision is really yours as to what you do. As you said they are a fantastic model. I am sure KR Models will respond. I imagine they may be somewhat swamped under with emails from the amount of comments online I have seen. I am aware that Michael seems to deal with the customer services for the UK but Keith also seems to be answering to a lot of peoples mail also.
      I hope some of this has helped and thanks for getting in touch. Keep me informed as to what you decide to do and when you get a reply from KR. Cheers

    Hi Aiden got my nine a few days ago very very pleased with them, but watch you bogie screws don;t drop out, nothing came off the track a testament to how well balanced they are only discovered this when i started to remove them off the track when three of the bogies fell off. just put a bit of stud lock on the end of the thread, fixed for ever. Easy fix they won't be going back for this minor glitch. Regads Alan Massie

      @AidansRailways  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alan. I have just responded to some other comments referring to the bogie issue. I can say that personally I have not had any problems so far. That being said because of the volume of comments I have read online I have chosen to place a very very small amount of lock tight on the threads of the body where the screws locate just in case. They are a really nice model. Thank you for getting in touch. Cheers

    Having got mine last week, KR Models have done good job (especially given the large number of issues in their engineering prototypes) overall but there are a number of inaccuracies although I admit you need to know the prototypes very well to spot the issues...

    • @stevensmith2398

      Hi could you advise the areas that arent quite right? The wheels look oversized compared to Dave Bradwell kit version?

    • @jdmodels1968
      @jdmodels1968 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stevensmith2398 As mentioned, overall, I think the wagons are very good and I will be more than happy to run them alongside the Bradwell and Alexander models kits versions that I already have. I did have a very small involvement in their production as I supplied some photos of the interior of the wagons to KR. I appreciate that some will say that what I'm about to mention is very much nitpicking but my own layout is a model of South Pelaw Junction which was on the Tyne Dock to Consett line so I do know these wagons extremely well. They scale exactly to the Bradwell versions and the wheels are actually dead on the correct size, the wheels in the Bradwell kits are a little under scale. The fact that the KR wheels are so shiny appears to make them look larger than they actually are. So, down to the issues: 1. The wagons should have three air/vacuum pipes at each end but the model only has two. 2. On the roof of the boxes at the each end of the wagon, the model has two holes - they are not there on the real thing. 3. At the bottom end of the release handle at each end, the model has a vertical piece moulded on to the handle - on the real thing, this was a wire loop connected to the wagon end that the handle passed through. 4. If you look at the sides of the interior along the top of each door opening there are three holes - they are not there on the real thing. 5. The side door operating arms that come out of the slots in the side of the wagon are moulded solid but they shouldn't be, each arm was made up of two parts so there should be a slot down the middle of each arm. The part at the end of the arm that connected to the door is a bit 'chunky' for my taste compared to the real thing. 6. The slots that the arms come out of were different heights on each side of the wagon but, on the model, they are the same height. 7. I believe although I need to do some more research that, on one side of the wagon, the arms are sloping in the wrong direction. 8. There are a couple of small handrails missing from the interior divider in the wagon. Hope this helps.

      @@jdmodels1968 Hi thank you for the detail, I will go through all your points. Probably buy a set and add detail to them. I have 10 of dave bradwell kits to build, but they are quite heavy and looking to build the climb out of tyne dock bottom upto the engine shed. I do like your layout. The iron ore stage is partially built from plastruct, including the weigh car tracks. Looking at getting a 3d printer for the 22600 rivets for the over plating of all the uprights. Cheers

    Have you noticed that the bogie retaining screw sits directly on to the bogie frame and not the pivot? The screw is left loose so as not to lock the bogie up. However, if the washer was slightly smaller the screw may be brought down to the pivot inside. You may find the screw works its way out after running. All 9 of my wagons are like this except for one bogie.

    • @AidansRailways
      @AidansRailways  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi and thank you for getting in touch. I have seen lots of comments referring to the bogies and loose screws etc. I personally have not yet had any issues however I have made the decision to put a very very small amount to lock tight on the threads of the body not the screw. his should prevent me from having any issues. I cannot stress how small the amount of lock tight I have used as this stuff really does lock the threads. As I said I personally have not had any issues but I chose to because of the volume of comments I have seen online. Once again thank you for getting in touch

Those that remember in Consett are very proud of their industrial heritage. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers
