Ah, a gift! This unexpected nugget of space tripping sonic goodness. The sounds they created and the landscapes they painted with their music. We are truly fortunate to be able to experience these recordings. Thanks for posting this. Pink Floyd..... gracious.
I was lead to search for this song after reading a news piece about the 50th anniversary of The Moon Landing. So glad I did! This is an astounding piece of music! I've never heard a single Floyd song I don't enjoy, and happy to say, this statement is still accurate!
@@ryansomething1732 Pink Floyd is my favorite band, but I Disagree, again. My top Floyd albums in order are; The Wall, The Division Bell, Dark Side of the moon, The Final Cut, Animals, Wish You Were Here. It's best when they're all working together, and I like Gilmour and Waters Solo Work; On An Island & Is This The Life We Really Want? Respectively, but I love The Division Bell, the last real Floyd Album, it was great. Although I'll admit A Momentary Lapse Of Reason isn't that good I still enjoy two songs from that album: Learning to fly & The Dogs Of War, but overall that album bombed, but I just kinda chalk it up to, Waters' Lawsuit and the fact that it was written by people outside the band. Waters is a good story teller, but Gilmours a great musician.
Unlikely as it was never officially recorded or produced. It was only played one time and it was on live television. This track was never for sale, was never on an album it just purely wasnt available until avent of the internet.
...wow its so incredible how every now and then it seems i learn something new about pink floyd, they have been my favorite band for years since i first hear their music around 7th or 8th grade!! This band just never fails to amaze me and the music is just timeless, it never gets old.. i could listen to them nonstop and never get bored. Its moments like this that totally resfresh my respect and admiration for the importance of their musical legacy. I couldnt be any more grateful for experiencing the pink floyd sound..many thanks to all of them! (and many thanks to the person who put the time/effort into sharing this piece of history)
Thank you for your awesome contribution 50yrs ago to all of America & the World on July 20, 1969. How incredibly awesome you were & to Shine On, and how you went even further on to change American music forever.
Way ahead of their time! I can feel the magic of the mystery of the moon and this historic event! Never heard this one until Google brought it up. Best song for the celebration many years to come !
"There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark." Direct quote from the song "Eclipse" -- last song on DSOTM, copyright by Pink Floyd,1973.
Let us not forget in '65 Pink Floyd aka: "The Tea Set" "The Pink Floyd" & "The Pink Floyd Sound" Syd, Roger, Rick, and Nick started the first British psychedelic group. Interstellar Overdrive pre-dates, '66 Revolver, '67 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Magical Mystery Tour. Iron Butterfly 1968 hit "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", The Rolling Stones '67 Their Satanic Majesties Request. 1967's Jim Morrison and the Doors
George Harrison's "Tomorrow Never Knows" began to be recorded 1966-04-06. Frank Zappa's Freak Out was recorded 1966-03-09 - 1966-03-12. Earliest recording of Interstellar Overdrive is 1966-10-31. However, they were performing it live from at the latest 1966-05-08. It's a close call.
Is it weird that I seem to forget how this song goes every time after hearing it? This is my 3rd or 4th time hearing it and I have no memory of someone talking at 1:08.
Somewhat, but fully realize they improvised this live for the BBC in 1969. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/pink-floyds-gilmour-recalls-jamming-to-the-moon-landing-250006/
Initially, a weird comment, but you have good ears! Threre's definitely a flavour of that in there, especially the Waters' bass. They're both blues tracks.Good call.
Are you THE Rob Blevins? Wow! I MUST have your autograph. On some toilet paper, please. Just a quick note. It's all about context. Look what they went on to do, and look what you went on to do-be do-be didn't.
Pink Floyd playing a live jam as the first man lands on the moon. Now that is as psychedelic as it gets ✌
I know right? So cool and the music seems like good fit for the moon landing too. Great job boys!
Far Out! :)

Cool that Pink Floyd had a part in the historic event 50 years ago today. I love those guys. RIP Syd Barrett and Richard Wright.

No. Gilmour is just as much Pink Floyd as Roger.

Thought I knew absolutely everything Floyd related, but this one got me!! Wonderful - my 17 year old self must have heard this without knowing!

This could have been one of the great Pink Floyd epics if it had been released properly
Listening on Moonday July 20th 2023. Born in 1970 and a Floyd fan for life.
The fact that there's only a 1969 tv quality recording of this is tragic
BBC erased everything from the 60s except Cliff Richards. They loved Cliff.
@@Doupyourflies Whyyyy???
@@RandomPerson-ob1hk Tape was expensive, Cliff Richards was considered wholesome, Pink Floyd weren't.

Now this is the real classic Floyd!
Science is no Fiction. Floyd is Pink. Even at the dark side of the Moon.
Could you elaborate?

of the moon really.

it's all dark."
