HAO - L 23 Super Blaník - Winch Launches

- First video from my glider license training. Winch launches are used in our aeroclub mostly for the training purposes although I´ve seen some pilots to get into the thermal even from such low altitude. Also my GoPro had bad aspect ratio settings so next time I´ll make it 16:9.
I got to drive the tractor, our winch and solo at raf marham in the late 70s when i was 14. Winch driving is an art, kiting when applicable!
It most certainly is art. We have several winch drivers in aeroclub and I can recognize who is operating it that day only by flying the glider. Someone is better, someone is not.
This brings memories. Had my training and first solo flights on Blanik in 1988
Great to hear! Did you fly on L-13 or already on L-23?
@@J18Flyer Can't really remember the model number but one of Blaniks had an L tail and the other a T tail. We shortly afterward transitioned to Puchatek (also a 2-seater)
@@Spaniard022 Yeah that´s L-13 the original older version of Blanik glider. The production of L-23 started in 1989 ... i researched it out after my comment so when you replied I was already sure it was L-13 ... sadly most of them are grounded now because of the technical issue on a wing design ... it appeared during some RedBull airshow where one of the wings fell of during display aerobatics and they figured out it was due to design flaw. So now if you want to make original L-13 airworthy in CZ you have to pay for a costly rebuild and most of the aeroclubs don´t have money for that. In Olomouc we have 2 of L-13 in the hangar but they cannot fly ...
Flown Blaniks at Nympsfield too. 1976-1977.
Started on T21,T49 and T45 at Meir Aerodrome Staffordshire in 1967. Happy days!

I once had part ownership in a Blanik. Happy days, thank you for posting. The two point tow attachment is a new one for me. The lighter the grip on the stick the better the fine control
I´m glad you have enjoyed it. I actually saw one point attachment only on TH-cam with different types of gliders. The tight grip is something common with new pilots 😀I already found out that it´s better to keep it light. Thanks for comment.
two point attachment was/is standard for Blaniks, single point is a modification for "export" gliders to Western countries

Cable break training at a few hundred feet was always exciting!
And scary to be honest. My instructor detached me on a solo authorization test at about 100ft and it was pretty scary when I didn´t expect it. You have to react and decide really fast. It´s good to do it though because you grow confidence in yourself.
I used to fly from Nympsfield in th UK, short of spin practice nothing beats a winch launch. Never seen an actual rope winch before, Nympsfied has a 1/4" steel cable and a single attachment point. To paraphrase a line from song "best way to travel" by the British Band "The Moody Blues" "Winching is the best way to travel".
Wow that´s great to hear! Well the rope is only for a last 8 meters or so and than it´s steel rope all the way to the winch. It´s just to fit the ropes to the side attachment points because steel rope sliding on a fuselage would damage the aircraft. But it´s hell of a ride ... it doesn´t seem like that from the video but you can really feel the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 secs .... Honestly I prefer aerotows 😅

Towing by winch was never my favorite. I couldn't befriend me with the visibility. An if you've got a passenger on the backseat you're in the "line of fire". 😱 😂

That's quite impressive! I don't even know if any of our instructors have so many sorties on Blaník. It's great plane. Good for training purposes and for it's weight and properties it has also quite impressive capabilities. Salute!
Ahoj Martine, krásná práce a závidím. Blaníka v MSFS zatím nemají, až tam bude začnu trénovat aspoň virtuálně. Ta modrá páka to byla vzdušní brzda? Obě přistání za mě perfektní. To, co měl instruktor na zádech byl padák? Jinak reál Olomouc jak v simulátoru, akorát tam jsem si nevšiml té dálnici, nad kterou si přelétl před přistáním. Závidím a hodně úspěšných poletů přeji. S!
Ahoj, děkuju moc. No ten tam trochu chybí to by byla paráda kdyby ho přidali. Jo to co měl na zádech je padák i já jsem ho měl. Jako reálně do těch 300m je ti to k ničemu protože se nestihne rozbalit ale stejně se s ním lítá protože sedačky jsou na to dělané. Jinak je tam dálnice ve směru na Pardubice a Hradec Králové a letiště je situované tak, že přes ten asfalt lítáš dost nízko ... někdy to člověka nepěkně nakopne když je to v létě nahřáté ale dá se to. Snad brzy zase zalítáme díky moc! S!
Jo jinak ano ta modrá páka je vzdušná brzda ... ve většině kluzáků je to stejně značené .. modrá je brzda, zelený je trim výškovky, žlutý je vypínač.

Proč se v Olomouci nelítají normální okruhy ? To je kvůli místním obyvatelům ?
Z více důvodů ... Hlavně vítr, praktičnost a bezpečnost. Letiště má na dráze 27 docela velký sklon takže při přistání směrem od města se sedá v podstatě z kopce. Navíc jsou tam před prahem dráhy všude stromy a plot. Tudíž pokud se lítají okruhy startem z 27 tak se moc rozumně nedá přistát na stejném místě kde se startovalo a museli bychom dost dlouho tlačit letadlo zpátky na start po každém přistání. Normální okruhy se lítají, ale když je příhodný vítr pro start z 09. Když se přistává od dálnice dá se sednout na relativně krátkém prostoru. Kvůli obyvatelům se akorát nelítá nad určitými místy s vlečnou kvůli hluku.
