The street is being gentrified beyond recognition -- although one small restaurant remains open ; about 80 yards up the road on the right. The nearly completed tower ,further down the street on the left, provides an idea of how things will look in the future.
The inexorable progress of time , Nigel . I lived there thirty years ago when it resembled an oriental Coronation Street of sorts . No lifts in those 6-storey buildings back in those days . All the land to the right has been reclaimed . We were overlooking the harbour back in those days . One Sunday night ( 2 am on Monday morning to be exact ) in mid-July tropical heat , I was preparing to watch the world cup final when I heard my name being called . I looked down from my window and on that bridge stood the late ,great Mick Such .... with a group of 6 or 7 others . I had a one-year old child and my wife to consider so turned down their appeal to come up for the match . But I relented ! They turned out to be Russian sailors with a substantial supply of vodka and beer . The gathering was far more eventful than the FIFA nil nil draw .

Nice to hear your voice, Swirling. Your old flat was about where the fifth floor of the new building is now?
