As much as I love being one of the very very few Taric mains, there are no guides and I'm not sure what I should be doing better. A Taric guide would be great even if it caused a small spike in the Taric players.
It's pretty strange to see how basically nobody plays Taric even though he's really good. I would love to make a guide for him but the thing holding me back is the fact that he has such a low play rate so we'll see.
King Taric made a Taric guide around a week ago. Was pretty helpful to me, even though I knew about most of what he mentioned in the video. Helped summarise Taric into a whole, if that makes sense.

i love rakan as a tank jg. enemy teams don't expect it and the ganks are downright brutal while remaining safe. His extremely low damage means i only pick it in games where my team has tons of damage and very little tank (fiora zed cait sona, for example) and his level 1 clear is pretty difficult, but as soon as you pick up a bami's you can clear easy, and a leash at the beginning should get you to that point without much hassle.
I play in dia as top and jungle, mainly every bruiser but play in my smurf as support. Since playing support for my girlfriend is more important than my mastering top lane in dia lol. I don't know if you (or anyone at all) would ever read this, but this video would help me after we get out of gold. In gold, it's just keep my adc alive and engage whenever I can (there is follow up damage without anyone dying). I would need to peel when in higher elo as you've said and we also came to the same conclusions in build, runes and skill tree. I just didn't know I need to peel. This video would totally help me in future games.

Glad I could help! I'd also recommend sticking to strictly passive or defensive runes and builds for you at least at first until you get the hang of the champion.
Great video, I just have one question: i've noticed Rakan has two auto attack animations (one meele and another range, the meele one si obligatory during his ult) so do this meele attack affects the statistics of the meele items passives and runes like for example black cleaver or glacial augment? You know, I haven't actually tested this myself. But I don;t think it would be wise to build specifically for these small time frames in which his autos change.
Hi What do u think of ingenious hunter on supports? i.e Talisman+ righteous Glory Rakan or even Face of the Mountain, Solari, zz rot, Banner of command Tahm Kench. I use it quite often on Tank/engage sups because I want zombie Ward anyways. what do you think abour this ? Cyrill
I'm all for experimenting and trying new things and although that sounds interesting I still think sticking to more typical runes that are proven to have success is always the better option
I'm saying choosing runes that are more successful is always a better option but runes change just like champions do and at some point, as we have already seen, some runes will be better than others. So, for that reason, the best option will always change which is why we don't have the same meta.

May I get more deep explanation why max W first instead of E? Going all in with those W can be great, but the damage you can absorb with E shield while going in can make a big difference and makes you more healthier in lane

In order to use the effect of Rakan with Solari, he needs to build tank. But Rakan's ratios are high in ap, so maybe going ap with some support items can increase his power in healing, shielding and damage.

For Rakan playing with a good Xayah, should her presence change his build? My brother and I love playing the duo, and I’ve tried various complimentary builds specifically to maximize Xayah’s potential. I’ve ran Glacial Augment for a slow after the knock up so that we can both spam damaged with Xayah’s shared W (the AA stim ability). So my question is, is it worth building for her strengths specifically? And what would the best build look like in terms of runes and item order? It may be a lengthy question but thanks for your consideration!
There is one cool thing about the passiv: it regenerates very fast so in the early game u can go for very short trades (mostly 1 AA) that dont destroy your whole shield and it regenerates very fast so u basicly get no damage without loosing anything
Since Leona is in the meta right now I'm really considering doing a guide for her next. But, Alistar and Thresh i think would also be pretty nice to have guides for just because of how popular they are.
What makes ap Rakan not viable(or not obvious to me if so..?) with his scalings though? (_In hindsight this is a good counter-build to mitigate alistar and thresh engage champions as playing the "enchanter" instead of "catcher" synergism wise, with our Rakan._) His q threat in lane if you have some medium ap's (70% ap heal-scale for any ally champ hit -and yourself), and with potential +% heal/shields is quite big. I have a good ap-centralized build: E.o.Watchers, boots, redemption, athene's, ardent, d.cap, ap-elixer, gathering storm. It reaches 550~+ ap lategame depending on how many ap's gathering storm gives at the moment. When played ap he is like Lulu mixed with Soraka,; gives both combat heals and combat shields to the adc, has cc as back up to stop champs just like lulu w/r. he can get out easily after using w or r with his e cd being tiny. This is really strong build to react to a counter matchup from engage supports like Alistar or Thresh as you can abuse your q's range and late e 1-2 cast for adc to nullify their engage threat using high dual heal/shields at levels 1-5. It's good at countering engage supports because you can confirm a q-hit as the supp goes onto your adc, for a big heal and use late w to stop the enemy adc while you fly back to your adc twice if needed to get out. disengage is applicable and nasty using heal/shield + cc just like a lulu. "INNATE: Rakan periodically generates a 33 - 254 (based on level) *(+ 90% AP)* shield. Damaging an enemy champion with a basic attack or ability reduces the cooldown of Fey Feathers by *1 second per champion hit.*" At level 18 and 45% cdr, the passive cd is 8.8 seconds, so, a 2-man w/r with a q and an aa is going to reset it to 2~ seconds from full cd. The important part is that he can focus on defense for his adc's hp pool, while staying relatively unharmed from this massive shield mechanic- and his heal applying to himself as well. his q's damage also boosts up for 50% ap, in addition to the 70% ap value to the healing, per target healed (accurate aoe placements can be like 3+ allies healed in teamfights). his w is 50% ap per target hit. his e is 80% ap per charge cast. his ult is 50% ap per target hit. if he hits two champs with both his r and w each, his q's projectile damage, 2 allies with his e (if you secure actually beneficial shielding moments for both casts), and 2 players in total with the q heal, in addition to 1 use of his passive shield... he has an ap-scaling kit of: 640% ap scaling (which is treated multiplicatively by +%heal/shields for the majority of it). When you add in, athene's, in that each your damaging spells, q, w and r, each and every time an enemy champion is tagged by either of the 3, athenes is filled for 1/2 (if we have exactly 500 ap) of it's 250 basehealing pool, the mechanical combo's for rapid athene's resets and usage become very potent whilst combined with the 40%/45% cdr these items give without even needing transcendence. Combo example: Hit one target with q+r (full athene's) e-jump to heal ally for athenes proc and q-heal proc(and give 700 shield), w to charmed enemy and tag another champ with r (full athene's again) and jump to an ally with e for another 300hp athene's heal and a 700hp shield. Full combo rotation other than r-cast is back up quite quickly. Redemption also fills up athene's I believe for more e or q -> into bonus heals set ups; also follows up on a methodical(slow-ish) rakan counter-engage well... and also heals.. This is some real legit battle-cleric stuff right here. At full build, without the revitalize rune, we have a 900 hp passive shield. A fully charged athene's, when our Q heals the first or single ally, we grant them 950 hp (before SV and/or grievous wounds), and a single e cast gives 700 shield hp (or more healing ontop from easy athene's procs in combat). Final idiot's note on coin rakan because I am auetist: think with me for a moment, considering an talisman with the 65% item cdr build if you go coin. It gives point runner, 45 armor (which is good synergy with locket's high mr boost), and it's cooldown at 65% cdr is a disgusting 21 seconds. It's just as abusable as 65% cdr on oracle alteration item trinket, and synergies with locket's place as an active item, and you can have all 3 and more. You can toss in a mikael's and redemption to finish the build(+30% healshield for locket, passive, q and e for rakan spells, and redempt active.) which is 4 item actives, good of both resistances and hp(500 on Ruby.SS and 200 on redemption), and broken trinket spam. It even has room for mobis and your keystone of choice in this build. Talisman, Ruby.SS., Mobi, Locket, Mikael's, Redemption, + oracle alt. Locket/Mikaels + rakan e, all but ensures redemption to proc on ally. Still tanky enough to preform not-too-deep engages.
I prefer going with cookie instead of magical footwear, it lets you stay in lane longer which in turn gives you enough cash to get tier 2 boots faster.
I just saw this guide now and when I play Raka n with the passive runes, I'd go second tree Sorcery with Nimbus cloak and Water Walking. Nimbus cloak is just so strong because you get speed boosted when ulting.
For Rakan, what do you think about starting Inspiration and using Glacial Augment for keystone? Is it better than starting either Sorcery for Aery or Resolve for Aftershock/Guardian?
I like the guide, but I think Q is more useful than you give it credit for. From what I know, every bit of sustain is useful, and having it more available over more damage in W is better imho. More due to the fact the ADCs you'll be supporting can practally delete anyone later on. Though, I kinda wish you could mention on lane matchups and synergy with ADCs. As the one time I would dread playing Rakan is vs Brand support. I also feel that Kalista is also pretty good with Rakan as It can be a free double knock up + charm, thus making the lane very oppressive at level 6 in terms of amounts of cc going on.
I still think Q is his worst ability and I didn't want to spend too much time on match ups so I can a brief overview of them but both are valid points so thanks for the advice :)
I don't really understand why maxing W would make any sense since it doesn't seem to give him anything special that makes it worth it.like one time w so you can always engage yes but why max? Isn't a stronger shield/more often available escape due to less cd more viable?or a stronger heal?

Sorcery as your main rune page only has Aery to help your ally directly with the rest helping you. That's not bad however Resolve has FoL, Revitalize plus you can take Domination again to have Cheap Shot & Zombie Ward... Then again it seems that Inspiration with Glacial Augment is the more preferred main page. Which combination u think is the more balanced if you want some benefits for Rakan and some for Xayah (his ideal marksman) ??
Very nice guide, if it could be more in depth I will love it. Bc in this video I learnt some small details that I didn't know before. And I want to see a guide of all suports xD but preffer the moer complex ones like thresh.
I agree that I could have gone more in depth for sure but I didn't want to make it long and boring so I tried to compact it all into 10 minutes. But, maybe I'll do a longer one next time if I do end up choosing a more difficult champion like Thresh.

what do you think of the gardian keystone instead of aftershock on rakan played as a CC tank support ? because it help me a lot in laning phase and it pretty useful to switch between a front lane and utility for your teammates in team fight. I know people that don't like it because of the high cd on it.
Hey Nasteey, i just got back to the game and discovered Rakan to be gr8 support so Im maining him atm :d But I use Combination of Sorcery in the main tree and Resolve in the second in my runes to maximise my shields and heals is it possible to go like that ? Im not the highest rank player so id like to hear Your opinion if it would work on higher level. Also Ive discovered that i have problem with sustain in team fights ... i die a lot after engage, and dont know why is that and would like find some solution :)

Great guide but is starting W so good? I've been playing quite a lot Rakan (duo with Xayah) and i like to start with E over anything. Usually i can leash pretty well for my jungler with the double shield letting him start with 90/100% hp and i'll just test the waters on level 1in lane, i mostly fake out W engages and wait till the last moment in revealing my E start. With starting W however (i tried it some times) i feel really vulnerable going in up to a point where i rather had my shield/dash from my E to harass securely than to W in again without escape
ur masteries r different to mine, but how u play rakan is like i know how i should play him... maybe if u make such a videos like this u should exxplain when do i trade as supp (for example, when the enemy dash or main dmg is used or somethhing like this) ,too. Nevertheless it was a good video so thanks and gl to reach challanger ^^
Mr7 rakan here... personally i prefer E>W>Q max order with a W>E>Q learn for first three levels... maxing shield from E allows me to be more mobile for engages/disengages good vid tho
Rakan is an odd champion because he has many play styles builds max orders and rune pages that work. It kinda just comes down to what you prefer so I can see how some people like to max E.

I want to master Taric as a support main, because he has cc, shield, aoe heal and an extremely powerful ultimate.

Taric was my main before his rework. He's still in my support rotation. And was still the first champ I got mastery 7 on.

I used to max W first, but if I miss my W, I will have 0 damage and lose trades almost for sure. I max q now and think it's quite decent
I'd max E if anything but Q max seems to be the worst

yup, he's basically lee sin with more mobility and CC, but no damage!

Both work honestly. I've seen E max and W max be used effectively. I just prefer W because I'm an aggressive player and like to make plays.
I do Glacial on Rakan as it can help with the Knock Up-Slow Chain.
And Sorcery second.
Lots of viable options out there so whatever works best for you can also work

In order to use the effect of Rakan with Solari, he needs to build tank. But Rakan's ratios are high in ap, so maybe going ap with some support items can increase his power in healing, shielding and damage.
I prefer putting tank items off until 4th or 5th item

For Rakan playing with a good Xayah, should her presence change his build? My brother and I love playing the duo, and I’ve tried various complimentary builds specifically to maximize Xayah’s potential. I’ve ran Glacial Augment for a slow after the knock up so that we can both spam damaged with Xayah’s shared W (the AA stim ability).
So my question is, is it worth building for her strengths specifically? And what would the best build look like in terms of runes and item order?

There is one cool thing about the passiv: it regenerates very fast so in the early game u can go for very short trades (mostly 1 AA) that dont destroy your whole shield and it regenerates very fast so u basicly get no damage without loosing anything

Since Leona is in the meta right now I'm really considering doing a guide for her next. But, Alistar and Thresh i think would also be pretty nice to have guides for just because of how popular they are.
What makes ap Rakan not viable(or not obvious to me if so..?) with his scalings though? (_In hindsight this is a good counter-build to mitigate alistar and thresh engage champions as playing the "enchanter" instead of "catcher" synergism wise, with our Rakan._)
His q threat in lane if you have some medium ap's (70% ap heal-scale for any ally champ hit -and yourself), and with potential +% heal/shields is quite big. I have a good ap-centralized build: E.o.Watchers, boots, redemption, athene's, ardent, d.cap, ap-elixer, gathering storm. It reaches 550~+ ap lategame depending on how many ap's gathering storm gives at the moment.
When played ap he is like Lulu mixed with Soraka,; gives both combat heals and combat shields to the adc, has cc as back up to stop champs just like lulu w/r. he can get out easily after using w or r with his e cd being tiny.
This is really strong build to react to a counter matchup from engage supports like Alistar or Thresh as you can abuse your q's range and late e 1-2 cast for adc to nullify their engage threat using high dual heal/shields at levels 1-5. It's good at countering engage supports because you can confirm a q-hit as the supp goes onto your adc, for a big heal and use late w to stop the enemy adc while you fly back to your adc twice if needed to get out. disengage is applicable and nasty using heal/shield + cc just like a lulu.
"INNATE: Rakan periodically generates a 33 - 254 (based on level) *(+ 90% AP)* shield. Damaging an enemy champion with a basic attack or ability reduces the cooldown of Fey Feathers by *1 second per champion hit.*" At level 18 and 45% cdr, the passive cd is 8.8 seconds, so, a 2-man w/r with a q and an aa is going to reset it to 2~ seconds from full cd. The important part is that he can focus on defense for his adc's hp pool, while staying relatively unharmed from this massive shield mechanic- and his heal applying to himself as well.
his q's damage also boosts up for 50% ap, in addition to the 70% ap value to the healing, per target healed (accurate aoe placements can be like 3+ allies healed in teamfights).
his w is 50% ap per target hit.
his e is 80% ap per charge cast.
his ult is 50% ap per target hit.
if he hits two champs with both his r and w each, his q's projectile damage, 2 allies with his e (if you secure actually beneficial shielding moments for both casts), and 2 players in total with the q heal, in addition to 1 use of his passive shield... he has an ap-scaling kit of: 640% ap scaling (which is treated multiplicatively by +%heal/shields for the majority of it).
When you add in, athene's, in that each your damaging spells, q, w and r, each and every time an enemy champion is tagged by either of the 3, athenes is filled for 1/2 (if we have exactly 500 ap) of it's 250 basehealing pool, the mechanical combo's for rapid athene's resets and usage become very potent whilst combined with the 40%/45% cdr these items give without even needing transcendence. Combo example: Hit one target with q+r (full athene's) e-jump to heal ally for athenes proc and q-heal proc(and give 700 shield), w to charmed enemy and tag another champ with r (full athene's again) and jump to an ally with e for another 300hp athene's heal and a 700hp shield. Full combo rotation other than r-cast is back up quite quickly. Redemption also fills up athene's I believe for more e or q -> into bonus heals set ups; also follows up on a methodical(slow-ish) rakan counter-engage well... and also heals.. This is some real legit battle-cleric stuff right here.
At full build, without the revitalize rune, we have a 900 hp passive shield. A fully charged athene's, when our Q heals the first or single ally, we grant them 950 hp (before SV and/or grievous wounds), and a single e cast gives 700 shield hp (or more healing ontop from easy athene's procs in combat).
Final idiot's note on coin rakan because I am auetist: think with me for a moment, considering an talisman with the 65% item cdr build if you go coin. It gives point runner, 45 armor (which is good synergy with locket's high mr boost), and it's cooldown at 65% cdr is a disgusting 21 seconds. It's just as abusable as 65% cdr on oracle alteration item trinket, and synergies with locket's place as an active item, and you can have all 3 and more. You can toss in a mikael's and redemption to finish the build(+30% healshield for locket, passive, q and e for rakan spells, and redempt active.) which is 4 item actives, good of both resistances and hp(500 on Ruby.SS and 200 on redemption), and broken trinket spam. It even has room for mobis and your keystone of choice in this build.
Talisman, Ruby.SS., Mobi, Locket, Mikael's, Redemption, + oracle alt.
Locket/Mikaels + rakan e, all but ensures redemption to proc on ally. Still tanky enough to preform not-too-deep engages.
I mean you could play him full ap for fun but his scaling simply don't compare to meta champs at all
I prefer going with cookie instead of magical footwear, it lets you stay in lane longer which in turn gives you enough cash to get tier 2 boots faster.
I just saw this guide now and when I play Raka n with the passive runes, I'd go second tree Sorcery with Nimbus cloak and Water Walking. Nimbus cloak is just so strong because you get speed boosted when ulting.

For Rakan, what do you think about starting Inspiration and using Glacial Augment for keystone? Is it better than starting either Sorcery for Aery or Resolve for Aftershock/Guardian?
I'd stick with what I recommended but the meta is pretty flexible right now so there's nothing wrong with picking something different like that

I like the guide, but I think Q is more useful than you give it credit for. From what I know, every bit of sustain is useful, and having it more available over more damage in W is better imho. More due to the fact the ADCs you'll be supporting can practally delete anyone later on.
Though, I kinda wish you could mention on lane matchups and synergy with ADCs. As the one time I would dread playing Rakan is vs Brand support. I also feel that Kalista is also pretty good with Rakan as It can be a free double knock up + charm, thus making the lane very oppressive at level 6 in terms of amounts of cc going on.
I still think Q is his worst ability and I didn't want to spend too much time on match ups so I can a brief overview of them but both are valid points so thanks for the advice :)

I don't really understand why maxing W would make any sense since it doesn't seem to give him anything special that makes it worth it.like one time w so you can always engage yes but why max? Isn't a stronger shield/more often available escape due to less cd more viable?or a stronger heal?

Sorcery as your main rune page only has Aery to help your ally directly with the rest helping you. That's not bad however Resolve has FoL, Revitalize plus you can take Domination again to have Cheap Shot & Zombie Ward... Then again it seems that Inspiration with Glacial Augment is the more preferred main page. Which combination u think is the more balanced if you want some benefits for Rakan and some for Xayah (his ideal marksman) ??

I agree that I could have gone more in depth for sure but I didn't want to make it long and boring so I tried to compact it all into 10 minutes. But, maybe I'll do a longer one next time if I do end up choosing a more difficult champion like Thresh.

I have a doubt. When usign the ultimte cdr rune, is there still max cdr? I mean, if you are 40% cdr will that rune do something?
what do you think of the gardian keystone instead of aftershock on rakan played as a CC tank support ? because it help me a lot in laning phase and it pretty useful to switch between a front lane and utility for your teammates in team fight. I know people that don't like it because of the high cd on it.

Hey Nasteey, i just got back to the game and discovered Rakan to be gr8 support so Im maining him atm :d But I use Combination of Sorcery in the main tree and Resolve in the second in my runes to maximise my shields and heals is it possible to go like that ? Im not the highest rank player so id like to hear Your opinion if it would work on higher level. Also Ive discovered that i have problem with sustain in team fights ... i die a lot after engage, and dont know why is that and would like find some solution :)

Great guide but is starting W so good?
I've been playing quite a lot Rakan (duo with Xayah) and i like to start with E over anything.
Usually i can leash pretty well for my jungler with the double shield letting him start with 90/100% hp and i'll just test the waters on level 1in lane, i mostly fake out W engages and wait till the last moment in revealing my E start.
With starting W however (i tried it some times) i feel really vulnerable going in up to a point where i rather had my shield/dash from my E to harass securely than to W in again without escape
W start is actually very standard in high elo and if you have a Xayah on your team that's an even bigger reason to start W

Mr7 rakan here... personally i prefer E>W>Q max order with a W>E>Q learn for first three levels... maxing shield from E allows me to be more mobile for engages/disengages good vid tho
Rakan is an odd champion because he has many play styles builds max orders and rune pages that work. It kinda just comes down to what you prefer so I can see how some people like to max E.
