I wish to point out that most second language learners would require strong visual clues to comprehend "content specific words" For example a word like "Torque " which is a key word in mechanics is not easily explained away as
a force that tends to cause rotation. It does require either a picture or a realia to make students understand it in full as a twisting force. I am tempted to say this because I learnt the poem Daffodils at the age of ten and until the age of
50 I didn't have a clue of what was
"A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,"
Imagine I became a teacher and taught ignorance to my students for long. From this realization I decided to do an intensive study of vocabulary across subjects which alone helps. I have a simple solution for studying vocabulary which I could share with those interested .
