Hey guys, the cuts in the video are not editing mistakes; there were a few copyright claims, so we had to remove them. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for understanding!
Same, only one of my friends continue to watch. And he was a Cena fan. I don't mind Cena's gimmick and I knew he'd be the next star because of his fueding with Benoit, but his in ring skills were cheesy.
@snakeeyes2551 They couldn't make him an anti hero. PG doesn't do anti heroes. Even so, Cena would have been better as a face in the Attitude Era. He would have been equivalent to the Rock.
I thought I did, too. But going back and watching old RAW and Smackdown shows it made me realise just how powerful nostalgia was. The PPVs are all more or less good, but the weekly TV shows were sorta like a car wreck. They were throwing out anything and everything, a lot of it didn’t really work.
I think it's mostly whatever you grew up with and/or the stars & events that hooked you in the first place. I started watching right in the middle of "The Giant Betrayal", and while I will _absolutely_ be a fan until I'm dead & gone, I have finally just accepted that _nothing else_ will ever latch on and captivate my emotions as fiercely as the World Wrestling Federation between 1988 and 1992. It just ain't happening. The only period to have even _sniffed at_ that same, sacred ground [The Holiest Plateau of Hulkamania, if you will] in the multiple _decades_ since, was the first ¾ of Monday Night War. Between the first episode of Nitro, in the Fall of 1995, and the spinal fusion surgery that robbed us of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, _mid-peak,_ in the Fall of 1999. Although, even with as awesome as that era was - and it was *AWESOME* - it still couldn't touch the golden age. I was almost too jaded by the world [especially once the atomic bomb of Netscape Navigator fell😂 on ny head with all of _its_ associated motherfucking tomfoolery], even by that point. Honestly, though, coming to that realization has helped me still be able to appreciate today's wrestling... as unrealistically choreographed and overly-sanitized as it may be. It'll never be what it was, not to me, anyway, and that's finally okay with me, now... err, well, it's pretty okay with me. I mean, it's just gonna have to be okay with me, because the shit ain't happening. Whatever. I'm fine. It's fine. 🤷♂️ With all that being said: _Wrestling used to be better, and I really really wish it was still real to me dammit._ 😂😂😂
Wrestling became stale after Ruthless Aggression. I don't blame the talent, it's out of their control. I blame Vince for going PG 👨🍼. Cena would have blossomed 🌸 and dominated the Attitude Era.
I’m always interested to see how people define the eras after the Ruthless Aggression Era. Everything before then is pretty clearly defined, it’s crazy how much change WWE went through in the 90s and 2000s. I mean look how much change WWE went through from 1997 to 2003, yet most of the 2010s stayed stagnant. Even the changes within the PG, Reality, and “New“ eras felt minuscule.
And how was the Attitude Era year 2000 different from the Ruthless Aggression era years 2002-2007? Except of the brand extension and WCW being no more, there is no difference. The Attitude Era year 1999 with Vince Russo crash TV short matches booking looks more like a different era compared to the Attitude Era years 2000 and 2001 than 2000 and the first 3 months of 2001 compared to the Ruthless Aggression years.
Wrestlemania 30 felt like the end of an era with Daniel Bryan becoming world champion and Taker losing the streak. BUT, then it was pretty much more of the stuff everyone had come to hate. I call WWE from Mania 30-40 the "DEAR GOD PLEASE LET THIS END!!!" Era.
Ruthless Aggression Era was definitely my childhood as the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton, Batista, Brock Lesnar, Edge, Rey Mysterio, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero and Trish Stratus truly became big-time stars while established stars such as Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Undertaker, Chris Jericho and Kurt Angle were still able to shine.
@RedragonReviews Agree. This era was my childhood as the likes of Cena, Orton, Eddie, Batista, Brock, Edge, Rey, Taker, Triple H, HBK, Trish, Angle, Jericho, Kane, Benoit, Lita and RVD were all in their absolute prime.
Did anyone else find it strange that the Undertaker wasn't mentioned until the attitude era section? I mean he's been around since the golden era. Undertaker debuted at Survivor Series 1990 and his legendary WrestleMania streak began in 1991.
But that's the era where he got his major boost. Fueding with Stone Cold and helping not just boost himself, but other talents as well. And the beginning of his enhancement of his character changing his style, moveset, and music.
You guys are right, Undertaker definitely deserved to be mentioned more. The thing is, we subconsciously focused more on guys like Austin and The Rock while mentioning the Attitude Era because they had way shorter runs that only lasted a few years, while 'Taker was there forever lol. Anyway, we are currently working on a video that Undertaker and Kane fans will like, so hopefully that makes up for it 😉
@FacelessWarrior86 But he wasn't as over as the rest of them. Taker has possibly been the main guys during Ruthless Aggresson during his biker days. Other than that, he's always been a big muscle or like a side secret character like in video games. But he's never been the main guy. It was in the Attitude Era where they really focused hard on Taker.
Glad to hear the new generation era and ruthless aggression era being spoken on because those two era are the eras 70 percent of wrestling fans grew up on
IM 58 MY WRESTLING BROTHERS. IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN MATCHES FROM THE NEW GENERATION ERA, CHECK THEM OUT. ANDRE THE GIANT VERSUS HULK HOGAN AT WRESTLEMANIA WAS PERHAPS THE MOST FAMOUS MATCH EVER. THE ROAD WARRIORS PERHAPS THE GREATEST ATTACK TEAM EVER, HAD LUDICROUS MATCHES. MATCHES YOU DON'T HAVE TODAY BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO DANGEROUS. EVEN SOME OF THE MOVES BACK THEN ARE BANNED TODAY BECAUSE OF THEIR DANGER.
The New Generation era is definitely underrated. The midcard was a joke, but everything on top was peak. And in terms of the actual matches themselves: 100% better than whatever was happening in 1998-1999.
As a wrestling fan (in Denmark) since 1990, Bruno Sammartino was way before my time. But just through various interviews, I so 'got' why people loved Bruno. I loved him too. And it was so awesome to have him sell out MSG one last time for his HoF. In spite of being persona non grata for years and years, fans never forgot.
the new generation era & the attitude era were my childhood years, the ruthless aggression era & the PG era & the reality era were my teenage years & now everything i watch now is my adult years & i still love watching professional wrestling 💯✊🏾😌
The Attitude Era (WWF) is part of my childhood years from 1999 through 2002, the Ruthless Aggression Era (WWE) is part of my late childhood through teenage years from 2002 through 2008, the PG Era (WWE; which it was terrible by the way) is part of my late teenage years throughout my adulthood years from 2008 through 2024.
Only differences are that it's woke and somehow worse than the Pg Era. PG Era had larger than life characters. Johnny Soygano, Gunther, and lameass Lyra are not larger than life. They're jobbers like 99% of the indies.
@@JPa-x8pwhat are you talking about with raw going to Netflix, and the rock on the tko board of directors and wwe being more ok with blood being shown slowly as they transition to Netflix it’s great again, hell in a cell this year was just beautiful. Easily a instant hell in cell classic.
@TheWrestlingZone Same as Stone Cold Steve Austin. I remember working a job and having the same mentality as CM Punk. And when he came on he was saying the exact same thing I (and many others) was going through on television 📺. And all I was thinking 🤔 is "wow, this bs is happening in the WWe as well." And when he mentioned not having a problem with Cena specifically and liking him more than many others in the back, it hit a core with how I worked with annoying and lazy Co workers. It struck a core with me so that why Punk always has a spot in my favorites. It's deeper than the promo.
IMO, the starting periods of each era described in this video are pretty accurate. The only thing I would disagree with is the Attitude Era ending in 2002. I think the Austin heel turn at WM17 was the end point. I understand the need to bridge the gap for the purpose of Vince's Ruthless Aggression speech, however. There's always been kind of a gray area between eras, like the steroid trial period being the in-between of the Golden Era and New Generation, and the start of the Monday Night Wars being the in-between of the New Generation and Attitude Eras. I guess it's been revisited so much that it's truly open to interpretation, especially because it covers such a wide range of time and it kind of depends on the age of the interpreter. Great video, thank you for sharing!
Personally for my self, If I had to stick to eras I'd choose 3: Attitude Ruthless Aggression PG Love the wrestlers in these era's and I'd always pick them also when playing SmackDown + SmackDown vs RAW video games.
Golden-Ruthless were my years. Attitude was the best. Watched Golden as a kid. The new generation was off and on. Attitude was where we guys drank beers. Last was Ruthless era was off and on just like new generation.
Cena and Batista were the beginning of the Entertainment Era (2005-2011). The Ruthless Aggression Era was that small, impactful, Era in between the Attitude and Entertainment (2002-2005). Usually defined by the Smackdown brand, not the RAW brand. I believe it is very unique in that aspect. Think about the Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, and Rey Mysterio roster with veterans like Hogan and Rock doing occasional storylines and the Undertaker still in the main event scene. We also seen the rise of John Cena during the Ruthless Aggression Era, but I would say Wrestlemania 21 was actually the definitive end of the true Ruthless Aggression Era. That's when the main event scene was almost unrecognizable to a few years prior, the product was presented differently, the tone and visuals has become much more light-hearted, even the brand logos and themes became less gritty, and even the WWE Title changed designs. In my opinion the look of the WWE Title is usually a strong indication of a new Era. While not always the case, often times they will change the WWE Championship as a symbolic change in the product and the shift on focus went back to RAW after Brock Lesnar left and Cena was moved to the RAW brand to become Superman. I think some younger fans see the Ruthless Aggression Era as being the beginning of John Cena. Some fans just see it as being the same Era, but us older fans don't really see them as being the same. How could you though? The WWE of 2002- early 2005 has almost nothing in common with the WWE of mid 2005 - 2011. Just look at the theme change of RAW, the "Across the Nation" RAW is a completely different product than the "Wanna Be Loved" RAW. I know younger fans who barely (or can't) remember this shift will blend it together as one era because they just see it as birth place of the future stars, but aside from Brock Lesnar those other guys weren't really focal points of the true Ruthless Aggression Era. They were there, but they weren't winning World Titles or main eventing Wrestlemania or even being presented on that level at the time. I know WWE likes to market the Ruthless Aggression Era as one long John Cena focused story, but the real ones who seen it know better. The true Ruthless Aggression Era was only three years and it was about the rise of Brock Lesnar, not John Cena.
Agreed, I’d say 2005-2008 was the Cena/Batista Era, those three years was when Cena and Batista were the focal point of the company. I wouldn’t count post WM 21 as Ruthless Agression because like you said the main event scene has completely changed with two new World Champs. To me the ruthless aggression era was all about Brock Lesnar and also Triple H’s reign of terror. Ultimately the ruthless aggression era was built around Brock Lesnar being the poster boy and the face of the company. WWE Here comes the pain video game was all about Brock Lesnar and 2003 was peak Ruthless aggression because post WM 20 was when the ruthless aggression fizzled out.
Your picture in the beginning Explaining the era was spot on but I’ll say 2015-2019 is the reality era. 2020-2021(money in the bank) Pandemic era, 2021-2024(WM40) Renaissance era. WM40-current is the HHH era
I started watching late 98-99 and grew up through attitude and ruthless aggression. Back in the day we had VHS tapes there was no internet to look up matches. All I knew was the attitude era aesthetic. So when I was see flashbacks to the new generation era I was all about learning why things were so colorful. Why the ropes were red white and blue. Why the apron, mat and steel steps were light blue. Why there was a different logo and why the announcer tables just had a black cloth thrown over it. And I wanted to know why the undertaker had purple gloves on!! Now I can look back and understand why they did it. But damn kid me ate that crap up I loved the old pre attitude era aesthetic
man i miss the attitude & ruthless agression era , my childhood in a nutshell. im been a fan since the tail end of new generation like 96ish when sting was in the verge of a character change. yes i supported wcw even tho i love wwf espically right now with aew & bunch other companies 👌
Watched WWF faithfully from the Golden Era - The Attitude Era, from childhood through my teenage years. Didn't watch mych after that as I had started college and other life endeavors, but I promise you youngins no one saw as much change throughout the WWF as my generation. You youngins missed the best years, with legends that made pro wrestling what it is today. Yall have no idea I swear
ThecAttitude era by far is the best. Second to me, it's the ruthless aggression era then the golden era. Although I wasn't around mostly doing a golden era, I was born in '87. When I was a little kid, I remember my uncle always watching wrestling. So that's how I remember some of the guys like Hoke Hogan Shawn Michaels Bret Hart and the Undertaker. Interestingly enough, The Undertaker has wrestled in all of those eras until until the Thunder Dome era
WWE is doing great today, but I gotta be honest that the new generation and attitude era were golden times not just because of them pushing envelopes, but you also gotta remember that even though people argued wrestling was “scripted”, this was a time period especially for younger fans who felt that things were real, and we didn’t have the breaking of kayfabe like we do today with social media and all the true secrets of wrestling out there for anyone to read or view on a video online. Or maybe I was just a naive kid and everyone else already knew the secrets of wrestling lol but you also can’t deny the storytelling and craziness of these times in wwe
I was born in 83 so I lived all these eras the golden era was magical as a kid Hogan and Warrior being icons and the attitude era was the most entertaining with Austin and Rock don't care too much about the others I just know that it has to get better.
Same here...born in '83 so grew up.on the Legends. I remember a time when there was no such thing as The Undertaker. After the Attitude Era, didn't watch much wrestling anymore. But 83-2002 is what made WWE as popular as it is now.
I'd argue that the PG, Reality, "New" and eras are all the same era .... Thunderdome era is the start of the Renaissance era thanks to Roman Reigns and the Bloodline 💯
Reflecting on the Bruno Sammartino part of the video in the WWWF section. This is ANOTHER sign of the WWF/WWE's destiny to go global & represent the world. New York City, the biggest city in the United States, is naturally a haven of DIVERSITY like all big cities. Different ethnic groups clamor to see someone like them prominent in the show & hopefully as a champion. How could Italian-Americans NOT like to see Bruno Sammartino represent them on the wrestling stage? The Southern leagues were more resistant to this idea due to their history & could only play catchup. As the culture evolves with social movements, it was inevitable for the WWF to become more inclusive. The Southern leagues represented prominently by WCW, formed out of the NWA's Jim Crockett Promotions, competed with the WWF by beating them to the punch in one key area: The 1st Black World Champion. Ron Simmons as WCW World Heavyweight Champion in 1992 forced the WWF to step their game up. And hence here comes Ahmed Johnson, the 1st Black WWF Intercontinental Champion, in 1995. Ron leaves the chaotic WCW to join the WWF as Faarooq & after his initial hazing period with the blue helmet, he goes on to lead the Afrocentric Nation of Domination seeking to become the 1st Black WWF World Champion. The Nation of Domination was an incubator of Black talent primarily. And when Ahmed Johnson proved he would not work out as the 1st Black WWF World Champion (due to his behavior), here comes the Diversity candidates primed to take his place: Rocky Maivia & Mark Henry. Two men who were supposed to make their in-ring debut at the 1996 Survivor Series. Mark Henry was literally the World's Strongest Man & renown Olympian who gave prestige to the WWF by going from the Olympic world to the pro wrestling world. He came in draped in the American Flag & everything. But he got injured early on & was very green. So he would have to come later. Someone else was needed. Rocky Maivia is Diversity personified! He is both Black AND Samoan which has lineage from Africa & Asia alike. Rocky Maivia was ALWAYS intended to be the WWF's Goodwill Ambassador & he still plays this role to this day. When the dark side of pro wrestling bubbles up, the public can always point to Rocky Maivia to represent what is good in pro wrestling. Thus naturally, Rocky Maivia was designated to be the ultimate babyface. But since the audience was liking the cool heels like the breakout Stone Cold Steve Austin, plans would have to change for the Slammy Award-winning New Sensation & fastest-winning Intercontinental Champion ever. Ahmed is OUT of the Nation of Domination & Rocky is IN. Rocky evolves into The Rock & the rest is history. Ron/Faarooq decides to mentor the future 1st Black WWF Champion rather than take the title for himself. "By Any Means Necessary!" is The Nation's motto & a well-known "Left-wing" battle cry. But The Rock follows this motto in the weirdest way as he breaks from The Nation & joins The Corporation to become the 1st Black (and 2nd Samoan) WWF World Heavyweight Champion in 1998. With that move, something truly awakened in the pro wrestling audience. A "Person of Color" is now prominent at the top of the league even rivaling the top guy for the top spot. Not only Blacks were moved by this but so were Latinos & Natives, Asians from East to West, Pacific Islanders, as well as people who were of Mixed Ethnicity of any type. Plus, he drew the attention of Women as well. That one move ushered in waves of Non-Whites taking up prominence in the WWF/WWE. It even accelerated change in the new Southern leagues like the emerging TNA from the Jarretts of Tennessee. What you see in today's WWE from Main Roster to NXT was rocket-boosted by The Rock as WWF Champion. And now, WWE-World Wrestling Entertainment, can TRULY attain its global goals because of this. From Japanese Joshis to Mexican Luchadors to the Euro scene to the Middle East & India to Africa itself, all of this current representation stems from the WWWF's roots in New York City & all of its Diversity.
As someone who grew up in the transitional period from New Generation to Attitude Era, you just had to be there.. It was constant banger year after year. I really miss when not just WWF had edge, but wrestling in general had edge, ECW is my all time favourite company. The "fuck you" attitude, to the "hardcore" and bloody type matches, to the sex appeal, to the grunge set piece and character aesthetics, I just miss it so much. People make comparisons to this current era, but I don't see it being all that similar, it's cool and all, but doesn't hit the same. Maybe once WWE gets on Netflix and they start really trying to see what they can get away with doing that comparison might hold weight, I really hope we get back to proper attitude era!
New generation was my favorite. The platitude era was just people dissing each other on the microphone with yo mama jokes, and then beating each other up with chair shots to the head.
So far so good, but I think you used a picture of the Iron Sheik when talking about the people Bruno beat. The Iron Sheik isn't the same person as The Sheik. The guy you're looking for is Ed Farhat. He's Sabu's uncle, and he ran the Detroit territory.
Another thing I noticed in your World Wide Wrestling Federation part of the video. The logo for the WWWF with the globe & prominent 'WW' in front (most likely standing for 'World Wide'). It seems that strong 'WW' never left the logo no matter how it evolved. Whether it's the World Wrestling Federation Golden Era block logo or New Generation Era slanted block logo or the Attitude Era scratch logo... Whether it's the World Wrestling Entertainment Ruthless Aggression Era/PG Era scratch logo or WWE Network/Current Era solid silver logo... The 'WW' always remains the same. Strong & prominent. But since WWF the 'WW' means 'World Wrestling'. And that's ANOTHER sign that what would become the WWE was destined to be the global company it became. HHH & Stephanie are gonna engrave this in stone as they take over in the 4th Generation of McMahons. I don't think any of us are ready to see how much bigger WWE's mark in pro wrestling is gonna get. They meant what they said from the very beginning. World Wide. World Wrestling.
I was a huge fan in the 90’s until maybe mid Ruthless Aggression. I tried getting back into it multiple times over the years. And just think back, wishing I respected the Cena vs Orton days. I try watching now and hear the name Gunter, and just turn it off 😂
I would classify it as the Vince Sr or the Bruno era, which lasted from 1963 til 1980, but what about 81 and 82, I don't consider those a part of Golden Age, IMO it starts either in '82 with Vince taking over, or in 84 with Hogan winning the world title. So what would you call that period between Bruno leaving in 80 and Vince stepping in 82 or Hogan in 84? If stuff like New Era can be defined, why not define that. But IMO I would group it with the previous era. Also when does Golden Age end, 91 or 92, I'd consider 92 to be the start of New Gen cuz that's the year Bret became the champ, but you could claim it started the following year with Hogan finally leaving. And Attitude era probably ended in 02 cuz that's when the F got out and Rock and Austin stopped working. I could also say that AE ended in 2001 with ECW and WCW going under. But then Ruthless Aggression started in 2002. That has to be the transition year from one era to another cuz of the Vince promo and Cena. PG era lasted longer for sure, I don't consider Reality Era to be a thing cuz it was still PG rating for TV, tho I know that the product after Pipebomb wasn't the same as it was before. However I would still consider this Reality era to be a part of the PG era, cuz similar ideas and gimmicks were used during that time. The New Era just feels like a dumb title, it was a rough period, 2016-2019 was a real real rough period, some great matches and feuds but it was also the period it made me sick of watching it, so I'd much rather group it with the 2020 and 2021 period. To conclude, idk. Yeah anyway, long comment, fascinating thing to see how people define eras, at least in WWE.
WWE are still in the PG Era. July 2008 to present is the PG Era. My favourite Era was the Ruthless Aggression Era which was from April 2002 to July 2008.
If we can get pieces of the attitude era and the ruthless aggression era without the adult oriented elements or the crimson mask of a blade job or legitimate blood from real hits except on rare occasions in helping with storylines. I would also like to see the occasional rare Iron Man match on TV or PLE. Attitude, Ruthless Aggression are my favorite Eras and occasional work after such as the last DX run or CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Bray Wyatt there’s some gems after Ruthless Aggression Era you have to search between Vince’s good booking and poor booking decisions.
I agree with everything except the Thunderdome being it’s own era, it feels more like a sub-chapter in the New Era like how HHH reign of terror (02-05) and Cena’s run (05-08) split the RA era.
1984-1997 is where I look at for great wrestling. I think of it as the "Road Warriors / Bret Hart" era. The attitude era had its share of great wrestlers and matches, but it does reflect the general cultural downhill of the late 90s that I noted even back then, as a kid. I was never a fan of the whole "extreme" thing that took over everything.
spot on man, i love the new gen era, attitude was fun but there was a decline in the great characters that wrestling once had earlier on. That was where it went wrong, instead of continuing with the huge comic like characters, they went for a natural angle which would see a john smith vs jack smith so to speak, and that to me is boring. Early ruthless aggression still had some highlights but it all went to unwatchable after that
The narrator ignores Undertaker's contributions in the 90s. He was a big star man who rose to the top quickly. His personality revolutionized the world of wrestling, defeating the biggest stars of that era, Hulk Hogan and Jake the Snake in his first years with WWII. Even his popularity rose very quickly in the era of the new generation. She was the third star and his popularity was similar to Bret Hart and HPK, but because of his personality, it was not useful for him to be the face of the company as well, and he contributed greatly in that period. With the departure of Bret Hart and the beginning of Shawn’s retirement, from the end of 97 to the beginning of 99, Taker and Steve Austin were the two biggest stars. At that time, and with the injury of both, The Rock and Triple H became the two biggest stars from the late 99s to the beginning of the millennium.
Undertaker certainly played a big role during that time. Keep in mind that we had to fit the entire history of the company in 1 video so we couldn't go in-depth into everything! Thanks for your feedback though :)
All the copyright cuts make the video somewhat confusing. Several thought processes in the video are interrupted, causing issues. I'd give this video 5 stars if it were more fluid. Good job overall though!
Here are the top 4 superstars of each era starting with the Golden Era as I don't know much about pre Golden Era: Golden Era: Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Andre The Giant, Ultimate Warrior New Generation Era: Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Diesel, Yokozuna Attitude Era: Steve Austin, Rock, Undertaker, Mick Foley Ruthless Aggression Era: Brock Lesnar, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho PG Era: John Cena, Batista, Randy Orton and Edge Reality Era: Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens Current Era: Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes and Gunther
I don’t feel like there’s been a definitive ERA since the PG era. I’ve heard renaissance and reality era but it seems more definitive to call this the Triple H era
Actually, pro wrestling has roots that go back much further than the 1940s. It became a popular form of entertainment in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. However, this video is about every era in WWE history, not professional wrestling history. It starts with the Capitol Wrestling Corporation, founded in 1953, because that's the company that eventually evolved into WWE. I hope that clarifies things!
People must really have nothing to watch these days. I tuned in to an episode of smackdown a couple weeks ago and immediately switched the station. So much for a renaissance era.
@@DADON99 i would call it the storytelling era myself. The quality of it has improved so much over the last couple years. Character work, long-term storytelling, story progression that makes sense have become some of WWE's defining features.
Found it confusing seeing logos and scenes of other eras while talking about another eras. Movie with seemingly random scenes and pictures. Drove me off and I shut off.
95-03 were my most memorable as a wrestling fan. The first “Hell in a Cell”… the second!!!! I remember SCSA passing out in Hitmans sharp shooter! CRAZY as a kid, these were men, fighting for what they believed in and wanted for themselves!
NEW GENERATION ERA IS THE BEST WITHOUT A DOUBT. WHATEVER ERA YOU'RE FROM, YOU SHOULD BE THANKFUL FOR THIS TIME. IT PAVED THE WAY FOR A LOT OF THE STUFF YOU HAVE TODAY. IT'S WHEN WRESTLEMANIA, SUMMER SLAM, THE SURVIVOR SERIES ETC STARED. SOME OF THE GREATEST WRESTLERS CAME FROM THIS ERA. HOGAN, MACHO MAN RANDY SAVAGE, ULTIMATE WARRIOR, ANDRE THE GIANT, TAG TEAMS LIKE THE ROAD WARRIORS (PERHAPS THE GREATEST TAG TEAM EVER) NEW GENERATION ERA IS WHAT MADE WRESTLING FAMOUS AND WHAT IT IS TODAY. EVEN MOVES, LIKE THE DOOMSDAY DEVICE WHICH WAS THE ROAD WARRIORS FINISHING MOVE AND CERTAIN MATCHES BACK THEN ARE BANNED TODAY CAUSE OF IT'S SEVERITY. IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN MATCHES FROM THIS TIME, WATCH EM, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

Same here. Pg era really sucks
@snakeeyes2551
They couldn't make him an anti hero. PG doesn't do anti heroes. Even so, Cena would have been better as a face in the Attitude Era. He would have been equivalent to the Rock.
I miss the Attitude Era.
Whatever. I'm fine. It's fine. 🤷♂️

Wrestling became stale after Ruthless Aggression. I don't blame the talent, it's out of their control. I blame Vince for going PG 👨🍼. Cena would have blossomed 🌸 and dominated the Attitude Era.
Its still awsome. Just some new age fans trying to water down its legacy focusing on the wrong things
For me it's taking the insanity of the attitude era and improving the in ring quality.
There's a huge difference between 08-15 era and 16-22 era imo
@thefakedeal Yeah, the return of the brandsplit was definitely a big change.
That was my childhood as well every time I think of wwe it's that. Bautista, edge, Eddie, ray, Benoit,
Dont forget boogyman, eugene, bobbly lashley, hardcore holly and umaga
@RedragonReviews Agree. This era was my childhood as the likes of Cena, Orton, Eddie, Batista, Brock, Edge, Rey, Taker, Triple H, HBK, Trish, Angle, Jericho, Kane, Benoit, Lita and RVD were all in their absolute prime.
Ummm that was the ruthless aggression era not the attitude era
Mines to
Did anyone else find it strange that the Undertaker wasn't mentioned until the attitude era section? I mean he's been around since the golden era. Undertaker debuted at Survivor Series 1990 and his legendary WrestleMania streak began in 1991.
But that's the era where he got his major boost. Fueding with Stone Cold and helping not just boost himself, but other talents as well. And the beginning of his enhancement of his character changing his style, moveset, and music.
@@younglove3362 Bro, Taker has mainevented multiple PPVs during both the Golden era and the New Generation era
You guys are right, Undertaker definitely deserved to be mentioned more. The thing is, we subconsciously focused more on guys like Austin and The Rock while mentioning the Attitude Era because they had way shorter runs that only lasted a few years, while 'Taker was there forever lol. Anyway, we are currently working on a video that Undertaker and Kane fans will like, so hopefully that makes up for it 😉
@FacelessWarrior86
But he wasn't as over as the rest of them. Taker has possibly been the main guys during Ruthless Aggresson during his biker days. Other than that, he's always been a big muscle or like a side secret character like in video games. But he's never been the main guy. It was in the Attitude Era where they really focused hard on Taker.
Very, lol. Taker deserves just as much acknowledgment as Bret and Shawn gets for the New Gen Era, honestly.
Glad to hear the new generation era and ruthless aggression era being spoken on because those two era are the eras 70 percent of wrestling fans grew up on
I mean…if you’re like…25 today. I’d argue 93/2000 are the majority of fandom.

I'm 41 and know nothing about the RA Era....The Golden Era- The Attitude Era is why you had the opportunity to grow up with WWE.
The reality era the new era and the Renaissance era is still the PG era in disguise
I'd argue reality and new era was still the pg era but the renaissance era is definitely a new era.
Only differences are that it's woke and somehow worse than the Pg Era. PG Era had larger than life characters.
Johnny Soygano, Gunther, and lameass Lyra are not larger than life. They're jobbers like 99% of the indies.

@TheWrestlingZone
Same as Stone Cold Steve Austin.
@younglove3362 Yeah.... too bad Vinny Mac had too ruin that too.

😢 attitude era was the best 👌
Wrong. Ruthless Aggression
Personally for my self, If I had to stick to eras I'd choose 3:
Attitude
Ruthless Aggression
PG
Love the wrestlers in these era's and I'd always pick them also when playing SmackDown + SmackDown vs RAW video games.
You're making up eras now, pal.
ngl I miss the Golden Era's Chrome-styled font logo
This was a great breakdown...bbbbbreak it down, of all the era and what made them unique.
Kudos.
Thank you!
Your picture in the beginning Explaining the era was spot on but I’ll say 2015-2019 is the reality era. 2020-2021(money in the bank) Pandemic era, 2021-2024(WM40) Renaissance era. WM40-current is the HHH era
Edge has been a significant part of quite a few eras and yet he didn’t even get a mention in any of the eras
i was born in 96 i started watching WWE from 07 to 2010 so that's the ruthless era i guess
And it SUCKED!!!!
07 is still ruthless aggression, from 08 to 2010 is PG era though
Thank you for the documentary Ken Burns never gave us.
Late 90s rocked!
Damn you for not mentioning Edge in the ruthless aggression era

Watched WWF faithfully from the Golden Era - The Attitude Era, from childhood through my teenage years. Didn't watch mych after that as I had started college and other life endeavors, but I promise you youngins no one saw as much change throughout the WWF as my generation. You youngins missed the best years, with legends that made pro wrestling what it is today. Yall have no idea I swear
I'm old. Grew up in the golden era. Stopped watching until attitude era started.
The disrespect shown to edge is criminal
Good Lord.
Who did the editing on this video? Put that person in the unemployment line.
wwe network came earlier than the new era, i remember the “it’s only 9.99” ads for like 2 years
1985-2010
Wwf attitude era was the best
I'm glad it was addressed because I see a lot of young people calling the "golden era" of wrestling to any era they liked.
I don't, I call the era I liked the Attitude Era, not golden at all.
My dad is a great Wrestling fan, i was introduced to watching WWE in the Ruthless Agression Era.❤
"LOOK IN MY EYES WHAT DO YOU SEE, I'M THE SMILING FACE ON YOUR TV"???
ATTITUDE ERA. WAS THE "BEST!" 3:16 OH, HELL YEAH!
Golden Era and Attitude Eras for us !!
The attitude era is my favorite
The Attitude Era divas were real queens. Fav era.
The bra and panties matches were PEAK
"I'm Triple H, and I approve this message".
LMFAO Toots Mont Jr. must be livid
Was looking to see if anyone else noticed that. Thanks for commenting.
You are correct! Good catch. As you can imagine, it was a bit hard to find footage of the guys who wrestled in the 60s and 70s though haha
I try watching now and hear the name Gunter, and just turn it off 😂
Best thing that came out of thunderdome era was the money in the bank at WWE headquarters

Remember when Vince was introducing the eras?
This Legendary Eras to Modern Era IS AWESOME!!!!
#WWEFOREVER!

If we can get pieces of the attitude era and the ruthless aggression era without the adult oriented elements or the crimson mask of a blade job or legitimate blood from real hits except on rare occasions in helping with storylines. I would also like to see the occasional rare Iron Man match on TV or PLE. Attitude, Ruthless Aggression are my favorite Eras and occasional work after such as the last DX run or CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Bray Wyatt there’s some gems after Ruthless Aggression Era you have to search between Vince’s good booking and poor booking decisions.

attitude might be the best, but we can't forget how influental the ruthless was for ring entertainment, almost every regular show really nailed it
I agree with everything except the Thunderdome being it’s own era, it feels more like a sub-chapter in the New Era like how HHH reign of terror (02-05) and Cena’s run (05-08) split the RA era.
That's fair, I see where you're coming from :)
Can you really call something under 5 years and era? Honestly I think anything under 10 years is not a era.
LA knight aint shattering anything being US champion on smackdown
Early ruthless aggression still had some highlights but it all went to unwatchable after that
That's why I both love & Hate Mick Foley!

Okay, but you mentioned the members of Damage Control twice, and Becky Lynch, Trish Stratus, Rhea Ripley, and Chyna 0 times combined.
All the copyright cuts make the video somewhat confusing. Several thought processes in the video are interrupted, causing issues. I'd give this video 5 stars if it were more fluid. Good job overall though!

Attitude Era: Steve Austin, Rock, Undertaker, Mick Foley
Ruthless Aggression Era: Brock Lesnar, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho
PG Era: John Cena, Batista, Randy Orton and Edge
Reality Era: Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens
Current Era: Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes and Gunther
What's with the constant cuts by the middle of the video?
We had to cut a few clips due to copyright claims
I don’t feel like there’s been a definitive ERA since the PG era. I’ve heard renaissance and reality era but it seems more definitive to call this the Triple H era
But Professional Wrestling started in the 1940's.

Who declared current WWE the renaissance era?...Twitter?😂😂😂
Idiots
Tbf it's better than the "Paul Levesque Era" that WWE's trying to push

@@DADON99 i would call it the storytelling era myself. The quality of it has improved so much over the last couple years. Character work, long-term storytelling, story progression that makes sense have become some of WWE's defining features.
There’s too much stupid shit for this to be the “renaissance era”
Found it confusing seeing logos and scenes of other eras while talking about another eras. Movie with seemingly random scenes and pictures. Drove me off and I shut off.
95-03 were my most memorable as a wrestling fan. The first “Hell in a Cell”… the second!!!! I remember SCSA passing out in Hitmans sharp shooter! CRAZY as a kid, these were men, fighting for what they believed in and wanted for themselves!
The ain’t the renaissance era it’s the cinematic era cuz we making major motion pictures daddy 🎥🎞️🎬
You list the PG era as ending in 2011 but show footage of Rusev from 2015 lol
