Just finished my first play through today, never has any game affected me the way Disco Elysium did, fantastic writing, great and believable characters, good voice acting, main character I might relate to a bit too much, one of the most interesting game worlds I've ever had the pleasure to explore and learn about, no forced shooty shooty bang bang fighting to keep players engaged but insightful, deep and meaningful conversations with people, truly touching moments, brilliant soundtrack and you can play the whole game with only a mouse. Truly a 10/10 masterpiece of interactive story telling. Jumped right next to DOOM and DOOM II as my all time favorite games ever, can't wait for the final cut version to come out, I'm already longing to return to Revachol.
I am really not judging your taste of games at all but... Isn't Disco Elysium Like VERY different from the DOOM games? I am just curious because those are as I said, very different
@@Honorio-nz4ts Yes they are different, I hope you realize that some people can and do like different kinds of things, not just the same regurgitated sludge that games usually offer. And btw I wasn't talking about nuDOOM, I was talking about OG DOOM, just to make that clear too.
@@Honorio-nz4ts coincidentally I jumped into doom 2016 right after disco elysium and disco was a spiritual experience for me. I loved disco. Doom was something I put off for years and now experiencing it and it’s amazing too. Balance of fast pace and slower methodical games works well for me.
Quick info: Almost the entire ost was made by Sea Power. The game's songs are all featured on their various albums, usually with vocals. I'm unsure what relationship the band has to the game's dev team. This theme seems to be based on "A Light Above Descending" on the album Sea of Brass (2015), but finds its most faithful analog in "Fire Escape in the Sea" on Everything Was Forever (2022). The fluidity of the melodies and themes are incredibly compelling across their discography.
I know that the Whirling-in-Rags was named after a lyric from an older Sea Power song in the original tabletop RPG sessions that Disco Elysium was based on. "You're whirling in rags You're vast and you're sad Hail holy queen of the sea" So obviously having been fans for a while, the creators went straight to Sea Power to ask if they could do the soundtrack and by god did they do a phenomenal job
To me this song feels like you’ve found what you’re looking for, it may not necessarily be what you want but dawn is revealing itself and with it, some kind of happiness
This game honestly left me not knowing how to feel throughout the entire game, it's like my brain couldn't tell whether I should be sad, angry, depressed or happy at literally any time.
music works perfectly well with the beginning (little bit fresh) and end mood (little bit feel hollow and relieved) of this game. it depends on your current feeling of heart.
The world is a beautiful place, the people shine with inspiration and passion within them. Don't believe it all, don't believe that ever swirling, ever consuming void. That comfortable black pit where you can convince yourself that the world has abandoned you- that nothing can ever get better. It may not now. It may not by the time you're on your death bed. But its those moments where the sun and wind rises, that you feel the cool vastness of the world on your bare cheek and you think "Yes, in this already passed moment- things are good." Be kind if nothing else. To yourself, to others, to those underserving. Disco into that tequila sunset.
Ok, so its 4:31 here in Poland and I cant fall asleep and Im quite drunk so I might as well write my experience from this game for the 3 people that will read it. First of all, Disco Elysium helped me understand things that I couldnt cope with, that is break up and running away from your problems, like alcoholism. Its definetely a game like no other, but what made me feel like this game was made especially for me, was probably 4th night, I cant really remember as I finished this game quite long ago. Namely, I played on hard, and made a promise to myself that I wont sell any "souvenirs", I mean items like postcards, forgive me but I cant really recall what they were called. So there goes 1st, 2nd, 3rd nights and Im doing quite well, making progress in investiagtion and then suddenly there comes night and I cant afford a place to sleep. I made a run around town for bottles but at this stage I basically found every single one of them. Here comes decision, do I sleep on street or I sell something? I was missing literally few cents and as sleeping on street in this god forsaken land was like commiting suicide at this point, I went to the thrift shop. I spent like 10 minutes on chosing item I want to sell and I made up my mind. I was going to sell photo of a particular reitred soldier, that is Rene Arnoux, with his girlfriend to afford a place to sleep. I received my money and went to whirling in rags. You can imagine horror in my heart the next day when I saw his friend sitting on a bench alone. I already knew what was going on I was thinking to myself for the rest of the game that he actually died because of me. I blamed myself for the rest of the game and weeks after I learned that he dies no matter what you do, but man, my heart seriously froze there for a moment. I know it wasnt planned but holy shit, no game made me feel this and probably no game will probably ever make me feel this pure, I dont even know how to call it, helplesness and injustice as Disco Elysium.
This music is the end. This music is the beginning, This is what I hear when I wanna cry and this is what also makes me smile. It's what gives me confidence and what makes me question myself. This is what nothing and everything means at the same time. And you can damn bet that I love it.
What I love about this soundtrack is that it really captures the mood of the Whirling in Rags. It's a place where the happiest of people and people at their lowest all gather. The place is constantly caught between a happy and sad state. That's the mood of this song. It's neither happy nor sad, it's somewhere in between.
I came into Elysium as someone who had recently fallen in love with the band Pulp and constantly prepared myself for the kind of perfect karaoke that would demonstrate the immensity of my soul every night on the drive home from the job I hated. This song is exactly that mood. It's like getting off of work only to go home not sure if you have enough money for the fast food you feel the need to treat yourself to. It sounds like falling asleep just so you can wake up in less than eight short hours and continue "living the dream."
this song is the emotional opposite to gymnopedie no1 for me, i saw a comment on that song a while ago that said "i'd like to go back, not to change anything, just to feel a few things twice" but this song is filled with so much awareness of the present and inability to reminisce. i can't help but pause and breathe in the moment when i hear this, before reengaging in the rush and worries of my day
I know a few of you have said that this song describes various melancholic life scenarios, but honestly, I feel like it paints the whole picture of life in general - sometimes it's up, sometimes it's down, sometimes we feel well guided, and there are times we feel lost. Life is a wave. It changes around like the seasons and a lot of the time it's extremely unpredictable, such as the weather can be also. Life is a beautiful, mysterious sorrowful bitter sweet song and dance, but what a hell of an experience it surely is. The trick is to try and enjoy it all, no matter how tough it can get. Ride the waves 🌊
Woke up hangover after a night of self destruction and letting loved ones worry and after a hot shower i started listenning to this, while trying my hardest to not puke out a drop of water. Good song
About three months ago I started this masterpiece. I was only making ~$100/week and was at risk of financial catastrophe. Since then, I have gotten the "dream job" I always wanted, a high school band/chorus director. It pays well but the kids are savages. Like, imagine a fucking choir of Cuno. I'm about to quit and just deliver pizza on the weekends so I have more time to actually LIVE. Whatever the fuck that means... This song is perfect for situations such as these in life. Minimalism perfection.
@@BattleToads yea, kids in our time just cannot understand WHAT IS another human. So they don't want to deal like civilised creatures. Only barbarian lang, only kuno's way. And sry if i got some mistakes here.
@@BattleToads How is everything going right now? I hope it's well! I've gone back to school after like half a decade, after having my life basically destroyed ten years ago. Socializing with people again is weird, but finally feeling like getting out of that rut is a whole another feeling, even if it's hard, tiring and it hurts sometimes. That song personally reminds me of that and the cold days out waiting to cross the highway, humming songs to myself and just thinking of people, and thinking about writing about them.

How does a song sound so comforting yet anxious? Seriously fucking incredible how it encapsulates the mood of the game. One of my all time favourites. Mixed to perfection
I've rarely gotten chills from listening to a song for the first time, but this was something else entirely. Completely sold me on the game right then and there.
Hits different when you are far from home for college, couldnt sleep in the dormitory thinking about that girl at 2 am in a cold and rainy fall night while smoking and knowing damn well that tommorow aint gonna go easy on you.
There is something so masterfully beautiful about this song. It’s both nostalgic and optimistic, depressive and ponderous, there’s just something which really encapsulates the human experience. The sense of moving forward with hope in a broken world.
bro, i dont do spoilers at all, so i thought i was going to be a detective in jamrock and then the game just ended, i was so devastated i cant even describe it. one of the best games ever made
On a recent playthrough, the guitar riff kicked in right after Titus said the line about how the Hardie Boys had to look after Klaasje and everyone in Martinaise, despite everything, or there’d be no point to them doing anything. Really nice emotional moment.
We shared something. You and I. When we played this game, the few of us that ever will, and that thread of connection will remain. In twenty years, upon stumbling across this song, we'll remember and we'll smile about it. That you can be sure of.
This music makes you think about a hotel named Whirling In Rags and makes you imagine that you are in that hotel lounge with a coffee cup in your hand. Maybe sitting around or maybe running from here to there and talking with people to investigate a case or about some bugs! Who knows? Life is Good and Bad at the same time. The joy and the melancholy hits at the same time. This music nothing but a masterpiece which Instantly reminds you about the City Revachol. I can write endless words, but the music is over now.
Innocent and curious to remember a game I had played more than a year ago during the pandemic, I looked for this song, as soon as I pressed the play button I was overwhelmed by emotions beyond the ones I can put into words; nostalgia, fear, angst, happiness, sorrow, uncertainty and many more. My vision quickly started to blur as I experienced this surge of complex and different feelings, suddenly I started to see how the background orange sky moved leftward together with the protagonist of one of the most beautiful games I have ever played and probably ever will. Many things have changed since, my father suffered a stroke which left him invalid, it was a traumatizing experience and now everything is much harder, I miss my old father. While I listened to this song I wished I could go back to that cold afternoon I played the game while my parents, still healthy, chatted with my sisters on the terrace. I just wish when I die I'm able to go back to that precise moment, me playing the greatest videogame of all time knowing my dad is just a couple meters aways enjoying himself. I'm scared of forgetting, heaven to me is being able to revive precisely as many times as I wish these moments of sheer joy. I cried a lot while writing this, hope everyone has a chance to play this game sometime.
I relate so much to the love story of the main protagonist. And my ex left me during the time I was playing this game. When he(the protagonist) made that phone call to his ex wife I just broke down. And it was this song that I ultimately linked to the whole breakup. I never thought I’d be able to actually listen to this song again without any pain.
One guy in the comments is depressed drinking alone to this song, another guy is happily making coffee and breakfast to it. Captures the mood of the song pretty well tbh.

Just because we're all human and we're more empathetic than most are lead to believe. That's what felt therapeutic to me.
Going straight to my 'Horrible hangover' playlist.
can you share it?
@@bloomingpain-flower7074 this song on repeat
@@paulyy-y This made me laugh way harder than it should have.
Love this song so much. Set the atmosphere of the game right from the start.
This music promises a warm and welcoming world. It lied. Sort of.
It promises a world that is what you make it.
It delivered 100%.
My wife asked me why i kept repeating that song , she didn't know i was playing Disco Elysium and enjoying this music
Ex-something...
Why does that sound so bad?
Volition: Stop. Please.
Me: My soul is immense
Inland Empire: Utterly. And it needs to be heard.
- Through a PA system.
- By other people
Shivers: It resonates into regions yet unaccounted
My quarantine song, perfectlly captures the mood between not having to leave the house because of work in the morning, and not beeing able to leave the house at all lol
That made me giggle - fuck
Truly the most neutral song ever
@@tappajavittu impossible
@@Honorio-nz4ts coincidentally I jumped into doom 2016 right after disco elysium and disco was a spiritual experience for me. I loved disco. Doom was something I put off for years and now experiencing it and it’s amazing too. Balance of fast pace and slower methodical games works well for me.
Quick info:
Almost the entire ost was made by Sea Power.
Thank you Encyclopedia. Was that a challenging check?
I know that the Whirling-in-Rags was named after a lyric from an older Sea Power song in the original tabletop RPG sessions that Disco Elysium was based on.
"You're whirling in rags
You're vast and you're sad
Hail holy queen of the sea"
So obviously having been fans for a while, the creators went straight to Sea Power to ask if they could do the soundtrack and by god did they do a phenomenal job
By far my favorite music in the game. When I think of this wonderful piece of interactive art, I think of this song.
I think the evening theme is even better personally
This song is 80% of what attracted me to this masterpiece
The best song to start you day.
To me this song feels like you’ve found what you’re looking for, it may not necessarily be what you want but dawn is revealing itself and with it, some kind of happiness
What shadow lies there, beneath the bright gleam?

This song feels like sunshine of the unwanted Monday morning
Beautiful comment, very apt. The game genuinely changed my life, and my views on spirituality. What a game.
Suggestion: use 'the expression' on her, let her know that you want her. Physically
Will never forget the time I failed the roll to kiss her, lmaoo
Check FAILED: "I want to have fuck with you".
"Let down the corp with the gun.........check failed.....shit..."
@@Brother-Kavkaz that's the best fucking line in the whole game, I knew it was going to be something special after that interaction
Disco Elysium’s music is superb. Each musical piece is selected for the precise moment of the game. Disco Elysium is perfect!
this song is the emotional opposite to gymnopedie no1 for me, i saw a comment on that song a while ago that said "i'd like to go back, not to change anything, just to feel a few things twice" but this song is filled with so much awareness of the present and inability to reminisce. i can't help but pause and breathe in the moment when i hear this, before reengaging in the rush and worries of my day
honestly really good music to listen to during a hangover
this song really just makes me feel like its gonna be alright, whatevers going in the moment, theres always the future to look towards
Somehow, it all mattered. Thank you Disco Elysium you will forever be ingrained upon my psyche.
Inland Empire: The stars have aligned again. No more past, no more present. Just the stars, and disco.
I've cried to this song and I've listened to it in a good mood.
I just started playing the game a week ago. Haven't talked about it anywhere, but now youtube recommended me this.
I don't often listen to video game music but this might be one of the best songs ever written
This song is like being sad and happy at the same time. Just like our detective.
Pure melancholy...
This song reminds me of everything I could've been and everything I shouldn't have been at the same time
This is my morning alarm :)
Listening to this in the morning hits different.
This is the only song I can dance to.
I don't know how to describe it, but this song really has a "the morning after" feel to it.
Woke up hangover after a night of self destruction and letting loved ones worry and after a hot shower i started listenning to this, while trying my hardest to not puke out a drop of water. Good song
I can’t tell if this song makes me sad or happy
То же самое
The music of this game has so many layers, so polyphonic and textural with subtle complexeties, it has the perfect atmosphere and quality of emotion
Back again. Literally got cussed out by the kids and walked out. Fuck it.
@@BattleToads yea, kids in our time just cannot understand WHAT IS another human. So they don't want to deal like civilised creatures. Only barbarian lang, only kuno's way.
And sry if i got some mistakes here.
@@lekt6992 Remember that, in the case of Cuno, even, it's a combination of other kids and horrible parenting. The entire system is fucked.
@@Morgan_grail Hanging in there. Been self employed doing delivery apps and running my own tiny business. Student loan payments started back this month and it looks like my car is dying this month, right on que.
I recommend this as a ringtone. Love it.
How can I have it on the iPhone?
@@LuisSantos-bb7dv I don't have an iPhone, but I guess a TH-cam to MP3 converter should work.
I would never answer my phone.
i have it in my alarm
The start of the song really does sound like a stock ringtone on a new cellphone. Love it.
the final cut is the best rpg i've ever played. simply a masterpiece
This is somewhere to be. This is all you have, but it’s still something. Streets and sodium lights. The sky, the world. You’re still alive.
I don't think I'll ever stop coming back to this song. It's an audible cup of coffee on a cold morning.
Hits different when you are far from home for college, couldnt sleep in the dormitory thinking about that girl at 2 am in a cold and rainy fall night while smoking and knowing damn well that tommorow aint gonna go easy on you.
So damn true
that's very exceptional
There is something so masterfully beautiful about this song. It’s both nostalgic and optimistic, depressive and ponderous, there’s just something which really encapsulates the human experience. The sense of moving forward with hope in a broken world.
This song feels like a very good old friend. I never wanna miss it
bro, i dont do spoilers at all, so i thought i was going to be a detective in jamrock and then the game just ended, i was so devastated i cant even describe it. one of the best games ever made
1:40 ради этого момента можно переслушивать бесконечно...
Man I’m gonna miss being alive.
hope you alive, fella (physically)
One more door, baby. ONE MORE DOOR!
Atmospheric... Some kind of "bitter sweet desperation".
I stayed in a hostel for the first time this week and couldn’t help but remember this game.
On a recent playthrough, the guitar riff kicked in right after Titus said the line about how the Hardie Boys had to look after Klaasje and everyone in Martinaise, despite everything, or there’d be no point to them doing anything. Really nice emotional moment.
I still can’t believe it’s almost going to be 4 years
I wish the "Drama" stat was real and would explain to me what people actually mean by what they say!
I think it’s generally that everybody is a little lost here, and everywhere. But that’s cool dude, nobody’s alone in this!
I suggest investing in points in rhetoric.
Empathy does that for you
We shared something. You and I. When we played this game, the few of us that ever will, and that thread of connection will remain.
In twenty years, upon stumbling across this song, we'll remember and we'll smile about it.
That you can be sure of.
I'll see you in twenty years, friend.
Unto two decades hence, bud.
Will meet in 20 years, mate
see you in the future
This music makes you think about a hotel named Whirling In Rags and makes you imagine that you are in that hotel lounge with a coffee cup in your hand. Maybe sitting around or maybe running from here to there and talking with people to investigate a case or about some bugs! Who knows? Life is Good and Bad at the same time. The joy and the melancholy hits at the same time. This music nothing but a masterpiece which Instantly reminds you about the City Revachol. I can write endless words, but the music is over now.
Since I played this game, I take it as it comes
OST + Artbook now available on Steam.
Those 8 guitar notes hit me like a wall and then slowly pass through my entire body as I stand and smile.
in a few years, 'nostalgia' got in my eye
this is like playing The Sims 2 with my sister but if I was an alcoholic.
Finally on spotify
This song makes me want to talk with my tie. But I realize, that I have no tie.... I miss you, bratan :'-(
BRATAN!!!!
Every man should own a suit. Go out and buy one. Its doesnt have to be expensive, but make sure it fits you just right.
One of the best games ever made - as close to planescape as it gets if not better
That is especially rough, I'm sorry man. But you're here listening to the song, so there is hope for your future.
Downloading it and making it my wake up alarm
