So many wonderful pictures. My great grandparents Mr And Mrs Oliver Grimes lived there. There is a street named from them. I spent many weeks in the summer there with my grandmother Mrs. Brownfield. They’re all passed now. Thank you Harold!
Harold, I am so delighted to see these digitized photos, which are so easy to view and share. Thanks so much for doing this. My siblings and I have a personal family connection to four of the photos, which makes this video extra special to me. 1) At 1:55, there is a photo of Virgil Hickethier, my great uncle. 2) At 3:20, there is a photo of the Hickethier house, built in 1887 by my great grandfather, Augustus Hickethier. My grandfather, Rufus Hickethier, Sr. was born in this house, and I was born in the same parlor room of the house in which my grandfather was born. In fact, so were my triplet brother, Dick, and my triplet sister, Bonnie. We were delivered on December 10, 1940 by Drain's beloved country doctor, Dr. Bertha Leona Devore, after whom my mother, Bertha Leona Hickethier, was named. 3) Our great grandfather, Augustus, was a photographer in Drain. At 8:14, there is a picture of Augustus Hickethier Photography. However, I am sure this is not a picture of Augustus, as it looks nothing like the one photo of him that I have. I believe this is basically an advertisement or calling card for his photography business. He was a Civil War Veteran, and the Hickethier family was one of Drain's pioneer families. 4) At 19:51, there is an advertisement for the Rose Garden Inn, just north of town, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jacobs. Mrs. Jacobs was my maternal grandmother's niece, making her my second cousin and her son Frank, my third cousin. My maternal grandmother was May Violet (Baker) Hickethier. We triplets graduated from Drain Union High School with the Class of 1959.
Hi Bob, Thanks for the compliment on the video and the additional information. You are correct that picture of August Hickethier was an advertiser for his photography business. I'm not sure who the people in the picture are. Glad you liked the compilation of pictures. You and I have a connection as well. Your Aunt Norella Hickethier was my wife's grandmother. :)
@@haroldburris7985 Hi Harold. After 3 years, I revisited your TH-cam video and saw your reply to my initial post. I learned only later that you are Becky's husband. I recently wrote my memoir which includes some Drain history - "No Ghosts in the Graveyard: The Adventurtes of a Small-Town Oregon Boy". It is available on Amazon. I am still amazed and delighted with the video of historical photos of Drain that you put together!
how did you get all these photos? I made a video about Creswell, and the Creswell museum would only let me use 2 of their photos in my film. It's on TH-cam called Tour Of Historic Places In Creswell.
