Suga usually writes very autobiographical songs and as he is an established producer, he produces almost all his solos, so his production goes hand in hand with his lyrics. It is about the conflict inside himself, about dark side of fame, about how more popular he gets, his shadow (his inner demons) grows bigger. In the end, when the distortion comes it is his Shadow talking

Shadow is part of their Map of the Soul series where they examine the Persona (RM's solo), the Shadow (Suga's) and the Ego (j-hope's). Shadow is Suga trying to reconcile the unconscious darker parts of his psyche. And the more insidious and sinister aspects of fame. The things he's traded, the commodification of his art and his image, the lack of privacy, the fear of falling from a greater height...it's a really reflective song and the music video really enhances the story. All three of the Rap Line's solos on this album story are worth watching the MVs and checking out the lyrics. It's a great progression. Plus they each sample the intros from their older albums (RM's Persona samples their 3rd Album intro Skool Luv Affair, this song Shadow samples the intro from O!RUL8,2?--their 2nd album, and j-hope's Ego samples their first album intro, 2 Cool for Skool) which I think is a really high concept move.

Suga produced but the engineer, Ken Lewis, who mixed said it was one of the hardest songs to mix, it contained over 100 sound samples and it had three very different parts. Pluss he experienced a fire in the studio and a close to the dead line. Daechwita is cool too and the mv is amazing

This song has such a cool concept behind it, to do with the idea that within the personality there is a 'shadow', parts of oneself you dont approve of, and hide away but still exist
The phrase "I want a big house, big car and big rings" was in their very first song, and back then they were 7 teens all sharing one bedroom in a bankrupt company so now theyre successful i geuss theyre playing with the lyrics with new meanings behind it looking from vastly different circumstances

Suga is called the touch of Midas, everything he touched turns to gold, some of BTS's huge hits was created by Suga, outside BTS he also produces for other artists and every songs he's put out with other artists, if not be nominated for soty in Korea against BTS, became huge hits.
You should definitely check out his mixtape called "Agust D" released in 2016 and "D-2" in 2020

It’s more of a self reflection song. The song is Shadow, from Map of the Soul, which refers to psychology. Basically he’s confronting his own shadow. He’s said many times that his own ambitions are his own monster. It also explores how, once he got everything he wished for, he felt lonely and pressured. And by the end he acknowledges that his shadow is there and isn’t going anywhere, so admit it and learn to deal with it, or be consumed by it.

Min Yoongi aka Suga is one of the most established and influential musical producers in South Korea today and he has worked with a bunch of other well known artists outside of BTS. When he goes solo as AgustD on his mix tapes he tends to become way more aggressive and punchy with ton of electric guitars but also traditional Korean music. You should definitely check out his "Daechwita" release from last spring from his second mix tape D-2 that has also a MV - super stuff!! All songs he has written or produced happen to be on my favorite list, all of them full of raw emotions, all deeply personal.

BTS are storytellers! Their songs and concepts are intertwined to their current situation and state of mind. So beside making cool beats, they are also brilliant lyricists. That's why army always recommend reading the lyrics to fully experience the beauty and message of the song.

At the latter part of the song when the sound and the way he rapped suddenly changed, like it became more aggressive, it's his inner shadow talking AND IT'S REALLY COOL. You'll see it if u watch the mv (it's okay if u don't react and just watch it by urself, i recommend watching it because the mv add more meaning to the song)

That back-and-forth ‘ping pong’ sounds like a metronome to me. I think the whole panning from left to right represents the push and pull between the shadow side and other side of ‘self’.

He is basically singing/rapping as 2 parts of himself--- his shadow and his ego -- thus the different tones and sounds. By the end of the song he he is realized he is both parts and he can't ignore or hide from his shadow.

  • @indigodragon0613

I can't even really explain what this song is about in a comment 😭😭😭 just, he's writing from 2 different perspectives. The first is his conscious ego (the part of him that is aware of itself and makes him who he is), and the second is his shadow (the dark, repressed part of our unconscious psyche that we don't want to acknowledge). When he says he wants to be all those things, that is basically what he felt before debut and before they got as big as they are now. Then in the first verse he goes on to say that the spotlight isn't what he thought it was and now he's terrified of it because as high as he is now, the fall will be that much steeper. In the chorus, he's begging to not have the spotlight on him, to not fly high anymore because he's afraid. In the second verse, the shadow speaks and mocks him, essentially, because isn't this what he wanted? He also makes a reference to their debut song in the lyrics. In the switchup at the end, the shadow takes over and tells him "we are one body, you can't escape, just accept that we will clash."
This song is part of their map of the soul series, which deals with Carl Jung's psychological concepts from the book of the same name as the series.

    Suga 💜
Faster in Rap there is no one ...
You have to listen to their only songs. Albums.
The last one is "D -2" Álbum
The last video is called "Daechwita"
    "Agust D" is another album.
    Listen him..
    " I came faster than Suga's Rap" .. hahahaha is a phrase ..
And this song is just a snack
    Suga 💜

I like your reaction and ur point a view this related carl jung psicological with shadow....
This is suga the genius rappervproducer ..
Suga, once said in one of interview, " you will like bts music if you listen without prejudice"
They have their own reality show called run bts, now already episode 132 per march 10th 2021
Well.. Related with this shadow interlude suga is from his mind, I have seen one of their reality show "run bts episode 56" at minutes 27:30 when suga/min yoonGi part share his poem also talking about their debut before and progress.. Here you "hear" also about suga's "shadow" song lyrics, then suga make it to this interlude shadow he is producer of this song and create music also lyrics by himself!💜💜
You may watch dkdktv explaination about interlude shadow suga. Hiw suga accept who he is as idol, as suga as agust d and as min yoonGi
They are dare to speak in their song about mental health noot just common ppl but aslo mental health for celebrity/idol/singer in kpop live facing bullied or even comment negativity from others or even from their own fear..
The rapper line in bts are
RM, rap with his brain, he is word play genius, intellect rapper
SUGA, rap with his soul thats why his song are speak so deep, he is tongue technology, savage, strong, fierce and splits fire can curse with his words hits you, bold, many said he is rapper god in his unique way
JHOPE, rap with his heart, he is flow god, a free happy hip hop soul rapper
It's such a beautiful thing to witness their progress in music contribution..
I do really hope more people open their mind and their hearts and give this group music (artist) a chance, As they all extremely good in thier own talent/gift and they all are genuinely and they all are being theirself expressing all onto their music/dance/songs/lyrics...

While I appreciate your obviously knowledgeable take on the engineering aspect of the track... not taking a minute to appreciate the lyrics as well, is disappointing.
Particularly with a group like BTS where 9 times out 10 they'll have incredibly deep meanings and messaging in their lyrics.
I mean, it's not really a good look to be bopping along 'cause surface level the song "slaps", when in reality the track is actually a devastating look into a person's mental health... 🤷‍♀️ (not you per se, referencing a reaction I recently watched of Sunmi's Borderline 🤦‍♀️ yikes)
