I have that tent in my bedroom and I'm sleeping in there ⛺️😴

I’ve enjoyed a couple state park trips with mine.
    (4 nights)
I was even able to set it up with just moonlight the second trip.
It kept the bugs off and provided minimal privacy from the neighboring campers.
Had an enjoyable time away from home on a budget.
    For that 👍
I’m no expert, but I had no expectations that it would withstand hurricanes, blizzards or the zombie apocalypse 🧟‍♀️
Basically it worked great for “backyard camping” in the state’s backyard.
I did cut my last trip short partially due to weather since my route home may have been cut off, or just a miserable drive.
But it looks like I also avoided an inconvenient, wet night also.🤔
I’m sure I can have a few more “adventures” with it as long as I don’t have high expectations, and alternate shelter is nearby.
By then I hope to have made a choice on a decent tent that suits my budget.
    ( likely more than $30)
    Thanks for sharing your experience.
Looks like the marshmallows made up for it😁

It's always possible that I found a defective product. I actually had high hopes as the reviews were solid and it seemed well put together. I'm guessing maybe the guy who normally cuts the rain flys had the day off and the brought in a rookie for me.
If I didn't already have 4 or 5 tents in storage, I'd have kept this and had customer service fix it for me, but I just didn't have the patience to try to keep it and try again.
The marshmallows still blow my mind... even if I did have to endure a few unnecessary pokes in the face.

I've used mine several times with no issues. It sets up just like every tent I've had for the last 40yrs.

I'm happy to hear that. Maybe mine was a factory defect.
I did hear that they now have a velcro strap on the rainfly to attach to the poles to keep it over the screen so that's a plus!

@@moonshinenmarshmallows Good video. I'm sure these are mass produced as everything else today. Also, marshmallows look great👍👍

@neil6961 oh, at that price it’s likely an kid running a machine in a third world country. 🥲
Thanks for the kind words. My wife is impatient with EVERYTHING but somehow she toasts up an incredibly perfect marshmallow. Go figure.

I just bought one at a thrift store for $10. The first thing I noticed putting it together was that missing pole. I did notice the rain cover has velcro on each corner to keep it from moving and exposing the windows, strange that yours didn't have them. Very informative review.

I’m wondering g if maybe mine was an earlier generation and yours is how they’re made now after some consumer feedback.
That said, it’s a deal for $10 with Velcro! Might be worth reaching out to Magellan and seeing if they’ll replace that pole!?

I just bought one and set it up in the yard. My trip starts 7/31/24. I did see on one of the other reviews online that someone else's rain fly pole broke. I sure hope mine doesn't!

I’m hoping for the best for you! I’d consider setting it up once ahead of time. My pole broke within the first 30 minutes.
Magellan is REALLY good with their customer service and replacement parts so they should take care of you if you need it.
      Have an AWESOME trip!!!

Thank you for this. Saves me the hassle of trying to put mine up. I only got a tent because after two back to back hurricanes, and so many people were living in tents after their homes were destroyed, but now I'll buy a better, more expensive tent from Academy.

Yeah, we left Florida in 2020. I'll happily never go through another hurricane again (I hope!). I'd definitely spend a few more bucks on something better made if you plan to rely on it for temporary shelter. Please stay safe!!!

So the 20 dollar ozark trail tent is better? I see on the other video you have the old version, the new ones have two different color poles. I was looking at this Magellan tent and the other one you reviewed. I guess I will go with the other one. About to take a trip to Big Bend park in Texas and want a cheap tent thanks for a realistic review.

Thanks for watching! Honestly, if you don't need the space, the $20 Ozark was better. Sadly, I had high hopes for this tent given the size but at the end of the day it felt like one person designed the tent and one designed the rain fly and neither took measurements in person. :-/
The rain fly pole breaking 6 hours in to my first day set up didn't win it any points either.
Enjoy Big Bend! Should be a good time!

The 4's not much better. The rainfly pole broke on mine too. It says it's 7ft long, but I'm 6'6" and was barely able to sleep in it diagonally with my head touching one corner and my feet touching the other. It was a glorified small 1 person tent for me.
Spend the extra money and go with the $50-$60 five person Magellan Bastrop tunnel tent. Extra roomy, great warm weather tent, lots of mesh all around. Great for looking at the stars in Big Bend. Survived a hail storm down there that tore up $300 tents and had people packing up and going home. The rainfly has velcro straps that wrap around the poles to help alleviate the problem in the video. Put rocks in the corners of your tent. It's windy down there.

My biggest take away here is that you’re 6’6” and now I’m jealous!
Seriously though, I’ve had cheap Magellans in the past that were rather solid (although still a bit smaller than advertised) but this was just bad.
That Bastrop sounds interesting. Should be a fun year of trying out tents!

Great review! Definitely wouldn’t want this tent! What kind of reviews did it have?

    • @moonshinenmarshmallows

Thanks! Amazingly, the online reviews were rather decent. I can only assume most buyers didn’t experience near-immediate malfunction. I also assume most buyers were budget conscious and may just not know how great a pricier tent can be.
