This is the director's cut of a video I first uploaded to TH-cam on October 27th, 2018. If you search this channel you will see the original version that I titled "How I Got This Bucket List Photo". Here is the question...what is your bucket list shot? I know what my next bucket list shot is...and I am going to get it on February 20th, 2019. Can't wait! Another good video in the making...
Forget my bucket list: 1. Spend a night and take a shot at Door to Hell in Turkmenistan, i don't know why, but i really would like it :) 2. Northern lights... i tried to take is, but i had no luck yet 3. Poppy field shooting. DONE 4. When i was young i saw a full Moonrise above the sea, i would like to show it to my daughter and take a picture from it.
Wonderful story, Tim. Proof once again that it isn't the destination, but the journey, that enriches us. A true Bucket List shot but, more important, a shared father-son experience to cherish for the rest of both your lives.
I’ve been watching some of your videos, but hadn’t become a subscriber of your channel. That all changed with this video! The photo was awesome, and I watched the original video you posted previously about the bucket list photo. The image is amazing, but the story is the real treasure! As a father, and passionate photographer, this video really warmed my heart. As photographers, I think we sometimes get caught up in getting the perfect image, but miss the mark by not enjoying the journey along the way. Thank you Tim! I’m glad to be your 1,883 subscriber!
Guys, i loved this video :) I can feel it deeply because when i take my best pictures i am with my daughter mostly - who is 14 now - and she loves to be with me in these trip. Best feelings ever when you are going through the biggest lifetime moments and your loved ones are near you and your souls can high five with each other :)
I completely agree with you Zsolt. Photography is not just about taking a picture, but it is about the shared experience and the journey of getting there with your family. It certainly adds to the adventure of life! Thanks for commenting.
Impressive, amazing, and rememberable video. You are now on your way to become a movie star too. Both you and your son are so natural actors. Love the story telling and the video edits. Memorable father and son bonding moments that I can totally relate too. More importantly, a happy ending to the movie.
Thank you so much Peter. I definitely appreciate your comment here and your ongoing contribution and input in our Facebook group :-) Happy New Year to you and your family.
Wow, such a great video! I really like the personal touch and the contribution from your son! Really exciting to get “behind the scenes” footage and then finally images and footage such a beautiful location. Really nice! 👍
Yes having Andrew in the video gives a different dimension to the entire production. And basing the video off of footage shot in the studio was very different compared to my usual format of video creation. Thanks for your comment Annette :-)
Thank you Liesl! I am so happy we got that shot and also had the invaluable time together to work through Andrew's big decision. Thanks for watching our story!
I have enjoy a lot this video i have seen not only a man taking a wonderful picture but on top of that i have seen two people (a son and his dad) meeting each other and it was so great, man. Thanks a lot for this great moment. I wish you an HAPPY NEW YEAR from France and i’m looping forward your videos next year.
Hello to Gilles in France! Thank you so much for your heartfelt comment. Happy new year to you too! We are hoping to visit the south of France in early July to photograph the lavender fields and the horses of the Comargue. Take care :-)
The first video was excellent but this was was even better. As landscape photographers we get the unlucky side of the coin sooooo often, rain, wind, the sun doesn't pop out of the clouds, its always something :) It was wonderful that you got lucky break after lucky break. I feel like this was a once in a life time situation. Great work. Also, that photo is amazing!
Hi Marshall, you said it SO well. The rain, wind, the clouds.... yes it is always something! The studio photographers have it easier because they make their own light and conditions. We are at the whim of the elements. Thanks for your kind comments.
Tim, what an absolute fantastic video! It was just so touching on different levels; your passion for photography and your father and son relationship. Wow, what an amazing experience it must have been for both of you and thanks so much to you both of you for giving so much of yourself and sharing this incredible video and story! (What a great young man your son is :-). Wish him good luck with achieving his dreams) . This video gave me a little flashback to a trip I made alone this summer when I drove up the Norwegian coastline. Started at 1600 and drove until midnight before I turned and started to shoot photos through the whole night and morning. Didn't get to bed in a hotel before 0930 the next morning = 17,5 hours on the road with a lot of stops! Crazy, but I got what I wanted and it made memories for the rest of my life. So, I fully understand your passion and your desire to take that particular picture! Thank you so much for being such a great source of inspiration!
Excellent father and son on a hike, loved it, and very lucky for the new challenge, I recommend leaving the comfort zone to start a journey of learning and success, working for others does not bring inner success and peace of soul, in my case I I love photography and video so much, but I still have not been able to make the transition, I'm married with two children, my salary (paid) is very little, for many years I dream of video and photography, after 4 years of joining I was able to buy a Nikon D5600 was not the one that I liked but was what gave to buy, now I need lenses I would like to have a 10-24mm for nature photography and interiors, I would love to be able to work in photography, but for me at almost 47 years it will be difficult with my salary and 12h hard week by week more weekends ... But what I wanted to say is strength and make this trip with your father his passion is great, and strength for the beginning of an online career goes on, excellent video LOVE IT From Portugal Pedro ( Peter )
Hi Peter, Thank you for your heartfelt message. You are working hard and trying to make everything work while being a dad, a husband and a photographer. It is certainly not easy! I hope you continue to pursue your passion of photography. It is worth it. Just do it when you can, and try to bring your family along on the journey with you. I left my family behind too many times. Thank you for your encouragement. And we encourage you as well from over here in Canada. Keep moving forward! Blessings, from Tim and Andrew

Well said Tremain! Very true words. It is not the destination, but it is the journey! Words to live by!

congratulations!!! One of my favorite spots that I am hoping to photograph again soon.
Thank you Andrew! If you are up to a 4 hour snowshoe trek, you can go there now! But the lake would be frozen over...

Thank you for sharing!
@@TimShieldsPhotography Ha, Ha! Yes I am, and sometimes I feel my head is flowing over with ideas :-)
Why does this feel exactly like the bucket shot by Peter McKinnon? :D
Really cool video tho
I guess because we both gravitated to the same place from opposite ends of the country.
Great story, video and most importantly, Nailed That Shot!!
Did you slip the road worker 20 bucks? That usually works too 😜

Read the top pinned comment. The first version of this video was posted 2 months earlier than Peter's. Why must we always assume the worst?
