Hello! I have a question if you can please answer. I never experienced training with a wall bag before. I just purchased a 3 section one. I was wondering if filling them with rice is a good idea or do you have better suggestions? Thank you!

Hi Francois Morin, I saw no one answered your question I believe I have a good answer for you. I too just got my first Wall bag this week and it is also a 3 section one. I got mine from Everything Wing Chun. They recommended the traditional way which is using either dried rice, mung beans or soy beans as a better alternative to sand as it can damage the bag over time. The only problem with those foods is in humid temperatures they can mold so they suggest for an alternative is plastic BB's like the kind used in Airsoft BB guns. My Sifu agreed and also added that even though rice is most commonly used it will turn to powder over time and become as hard and unforgiving as sand. So I ended up buying about 8 bags of 5000 BB's each and filling each of the 3 sections of the wall bag with 2.5 bags. I hope my answer helps you.

@@BaritoneUkeBeast4Life Darn! Too late! I already filled mine with sand purchased from a store. But tht BB pellet for Airsoft is such a good idea. I ended up breaking a zipper, so the bag was leaking sand. I basically duc taped it to death. OK thans anyway and I will keep this in mind if I ever buy another one.

So is your fist just relaxed, or whats going on with your thumb? I thought it was kind of the common factor between all striking arts that your thumb covers your fingers

Wing chun using the three and four knuckles to strike the target, all the bones are aligned so there is no danger of damage to the wrist with a relaxed hand. Karate uses the first two knuckles and rotates the hand to increase penetration and cause muscle damage to the target as the strike lands, so a tense fist and protected thumb is essential to avoid damage to the hand. Hope that helps.

The makeup of Dit dao...and what is its purpose. How long would the effects last? Is there a Western counter part it?

If you would like to order Dit Da jow, there is a company called everything Wing Chun. After years and years of hitting the wall bag, iron palm bag and so on, a person can develop arthritis, the dit da jow is to help prevent that. I don't know of a western counter part.
