    I grew up here. As a Bengali myself, not a lot of people know much about our food and culture. it often gets mixed in with Indian culture and although it is similar, it is different for natives. I'm glad you made this video.

      I mean, it is Indian afterall? 😅 There was no Bangladesh 50 years back. As an Indian Bengali I can tell you that you'll find these cuisines everywhere in India. Though I agree in West ,most people's exposure to Indian food is restricted to Punjabi cuisine.

    • @tasniaislam3951
      @tasniaislam3951 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @@essee3984 I'm mainly referring to the topic that outsiders assume any south Asian person or culture is broadly Indian. it is like calling all Asian people, Chinese, or all Latin/Hispanic people Mexican.

    • @shahislam1072
      @shahislam1072 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@tasniaislam3951 In the uk if you say someone is Asian people will think you’re talking about Indian or Bengali people. In New York everyone thought I was Latino and when I said I’m Asian they just looked at me confused

    • @mariyabiswas3391
      @mariyabiswas3391 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@essee3984 The problem lies in western mindset of homogeneous Indian culture like East Asia. Bengali foods are indeed like the foods of west Bengal but there are more varieties in different regional foods.

    As a tourist from Arizona, I kept going through Jackson heights Everytime I took the bus to transfer to the subway on Roosevelt that I made it a goal to get off the bus one day and walk down Roosevelt Ave and I loved it. I was so surprised to see all the diversity. Mostly Colombian stores and food stands but I loved just walking and exploring this neighborhood . I got tired of the touristy Manhattan so this was a great choice for me.

As like Israel, place of jew.Bengali ethnicity has an independent nation that was called Bangladesh. If you travel in arab they will call Bangladeshis as Bengali.They refer that to Bangladesh.

I think I'll check it out then the weather gets a little nicer. It's cold/rainy/snowy in NYC today 🥶 Edited because I forgot to say something about this vlog! Loved it. Love Indian food and would eat it everyday if I was better at making it from scratch. Fortunately I live close to a Patel Brothers store and buy the ready made pastes and make oxtails and goat in it. I have a big bag of basmati rice and also get the frozen Deep take out dishes-palak paneer is my fave. Not as good as homemade but works with my budget. Community should promote Bengali food to everyone
    Make some culture show
    Or party
    Invite your non Bengali neighbors

      Puchka is filled with black chickpeaks and with mashed potatos and served with whereas Pani puri is is usually filled with mashed potatoes. There's also a local language difference. Pani puris and even puchkas are called gol gappe in nothern part of India, whereas in the easter part of India, especially west bengal it's called Puchka. Puchka is most probably a bengali colloquial word used in West Bengal and Bangladesh. Since West Bengal and Bangladesh are culturally same (just divided by religion), all these foods are also available throughout the subcontinent.
      If your street food vendor is from the easter part of the subcontinent most probably he/she will be calling it Puchka serving it with tamarind water whereas Gol gappe/pani puri is served mostly with minty(pudina) water.

      Stuffing is little bit different but The sauce of Fuchka is made with tamarind and other spices while sauce of panipuri is made with mint and other spices.🍴
