Thank you! We've just been given the game and had no idea how to start! Will be trying it tonight. Seems like a great one to introduce us to roll and write (apart from Yahtzee) and with 2 kids playing.
Thanks for this! I was curious about it as roll n writes have become so popular and I too love the entire Clever series, but this looks really basic and is missing the key element that Lost Cities the card game has, and that is having to play a card before you get to pick up. It hurts so good! Then when you have a run in your hand and you think, "Oh wow! I get to have three turns in a row without worry!" it's one of the greatest feelings for me in the game. This looks like it's not really going to excite me. Especially as I have the entire Clever series, Gönnen Können, Noch Mal with all the expansions and a ton of Railroad Ink (Challenge). I think it will take a pretty unique Roll/Flip and Write to earn a place in my collection right now. Have you seen Explorers by Phil Walker-Harding? It's coming out next month and I'm curious about it, but not sure that it will have what it takes.
Yes, you pretty much nailed it! The roll & write version loses some of the best elements of the card game unfortunately. It functions well as an introductory roll & write but if you're someone with a lot of background on them already or you already play a lot of roll & writes, there may not be a lot to excite you here. I'll definitely look into Explorers!
Yup, that seems to have ignored the doubled score. I agree. However, great review. I’ve got the card game and love it too. I don’t have too many roll and writes so on the basis of this review decided to give it a shot. Will try with family tonight for a very accessible game.
Which version of Lost Cities is your favourite?

Great explanation, thanks.

Shouldn’t the blue column get 80 points = 60 (30 doubled because of the x) plus 20 for the bridge?
