i think your theory that Jod may be a former inquisitor is brilliant. Most people speculate Jod was a Jedi, but his backstory would be a lot more interesting if he was working for the Sith as a Jedi-hunter gone rogue turned pirate. You mentioned similarities of this episode with Indiana Jones (co-created by George Lucas), but one could argue this show/episode takes a lot more inspiration from Steven Spielberg's Goonies. As tribute, the captain's name Rennod is the director of Goonies but spelled backwards: Richard Donner. You're probably a bit young to know the 1985 film Goonies. Also, many of the playful pirate themes remind me of the retro PC/Nintendo game Monkey Island, which was produced by LucasArts (Lucasfilm Games, founded by George Lucas in 1982). Skull Ridge Mountain could be a throwback to the game's Skull Island.
We need to consider Jod's age as well. I think he would be too young to have been an inquisitor. I've wondered if Jod might have been a Jedi youngling, at the time of Order 66, that somehow escaped, like Grogu was.
Could the Hutt be Rotta the Hutt? I have been hearing that Rotta is going to be in the upcoming Mandalorian and Grogu film. That's set in the same timeline as this show is.
