- June 4 (Bloomberg) -- Tidjane Thiam, chief executive officer of Prudential Plc talks with Bloomberg's Francine Lacqua about his failed $35.5 billion attempt to buy American International Group Inc.'s main Asian unit. (This report corrects an error in a graphic on Prudential's costs contained in the original report published June 4.)

this is such a negatively pointing interview. Thiam was honest and clear, yet she wanted to nail him to something.

@RecordBreaker101 The 35bn price made sense when the deal was done but the Greece crisis and subsequent market falls meant the price had to be re-negotiated as most insurance company assets are linked to the markets so it was justifiable to ask for a lower price. It's not his fault that the AIG board rejected the revised offer.

When you negotiate a deal it is usual to put a clause which protects both parties should markets move significantly up or down. The Pru made a basic amateurish mistake by not having such a clause in their deal. They have been punished to the tune of £mm in having to pay a break fee. Tidjane should be red faced about it and not shrug his shoulders and blame the market for the demise.
Just out of curiosity, how many deals have you successfully led of this magnitude?
