I wish I could buy it again 😪
Wow and flutter is almost always fault of cassette player unstable motor work. It's a common problem of this mechanical analog devices due it's age or quality of it's production.
I recently bought one on Ebay. I bid 420.69$ USD for the lols, won the auction at just shy of 410$. According to the tracking number, it should arrive at my door in a few days. Never owned a Walkman before, I was born way after that era. To give you an idea, my mom was born in the 80s. I own many cassettes but wish I could listen to them at school, that's why I bought this Walkman. I've heard that these models are fragile but if you're careful with them they should last long, at least that's what I've been told. Fingers crossed.
I'm about to buy one for $430USD on eBay and it's fully refurbished and in pristine condition. It's a memory of my childhood and yes I still record and play cassettes (mostly recorded from vinyl)
The WM-10 was my first Sony Walkman back then--loved its compactness. My second and last Walkman was a DD-9.

There was a kid at my school who had a walkman which was smaller than the cassette it played, but until just now I though I must have imagined it.

And no you are correct, there was a Walkman where part of the cassette was sticking out due to how small it was
