    I just found your channel because I bought a Kreg jig mini. I love the idea that you share a garage with others. Your video explains this in great detail. Because if that I became a new subscriber. I am making a coffee table with pocket holders for a company for the first time. If I do a good job it might turn into an entrepreneur opportunity for me. When you guessed on the length for the nut for the thicker material would it be a good idea to draw a line on the bit for future use? I’m going to try to make your set up before I begin because I have a lot of pocket holes to make. I make a lot of pallet projects, especially planter boxes. Keep it up! Good job and well explained.

    So do you have a video on the wood jig you use here?

  • @fern9234
    @fern9234 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video,. Thanks for putting content out there. I've got two tips for anyone who may care to know. Firstly, if you haven't bought a kreg mini yet you may want to check out the miles craft version. It has a built in magnet, a way to adjust to differently materials, a fold away "fence" system, and comes in at about the same price as the mini. The other is that for a stronger joint and as per instructions on these jigs the method used in 5:30 is actually not quite right. The pocket hole should be on the other wood in this case where as the tip of the screw should always end up in the inner part of the board and not towards the end. I've done it the way you showed in projects to hide the joinery but it is no where near as strong. I hope I'm not coming off critical just sharing what I've learned. Thanks for the video mate.

    • @jonesey1981
      @jonesey1981 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree completely. The screw is def facing the wrong direction for strength. You're using like 1/8 of the total shaft of the screw for holding power one direction, and 7/8s if you face the screw the other direction and drill in through the "end grain", i put that in quotes cuz I think you're using MDF & there is no grain, but the concept can be applied to any wood. That being said, AMAZING content. I saw the mini Kreg Jig and was immediately like, why don't people just make a jig to move the little one instead of wasting all that extra money? Some people like having the most toys, I like having the most jigs, lol.

  • @thomaszaccone3960
    @thomaszaccone3960 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That jig you made is awesome. I tried using one of those Krueger jigs and had problems with it. In order to clamp it to the workpiece hard enough to keep it from sliding, it deformed the jig and moved the gizmo on the bottom. But then the jig I bought did not have that magnetic metal piece.

    Nice vid and congratulations on reaching your target. One small point - you've drilled the pocket hole TOWARDS THE END of the plank you wanted to mate the holed plank to... this would be much easier for the screws to tear the join. Instead, drill AWAY FROM THE END so that the screws have more "meat" to hold on to and the plank doesn't split easily.

    Like the video, but I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. The pocket holes I am making are not a deep enough angle or something the screws do set down in the hole well and there is always part of screw head sticking out. Any ideas?

    • @alankauth
      @alankauth 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patricia, without seeing a picture, you probably are not drilling deep enough or are using screws too long (sinking them deeper will have the point protruding). There are direction on how deep to drill for each screw size. I always finish the screws by hand after using the driver to sink them so I know they are as tight as can be without stripping the wood. The bottom of the special pocket screw head always supposed to touch where that shoulder of the drill stops cutting. You are supposed to drill with both of the pieces clamped together. You are using the special kreg pocket screws, right? (Or a knock off of fhe same style.)

    this pocket hole jig do not have center mark on the edge so that it can precisely align with the mark made on plywood surface. In your video you simply placed jig on plywood and drill the hole. Therefore this jig is not good product to align marked on plywood surface because pocket jid do not have center mark on the edge.
