      I'm pretty sure the Scientists working for the Government have an NDA agreement on the True Levels and Chances of Super Disasters Happening, for Panic Reasons and also For THEIR OWN GUARANTEED SPOT IN AN ACTUAL LIVEABLE BUNKER that's capable of keeping their own families going, I mean look at the Crime and Mass Looting in California right now... and that's just giving them a TINY Example that the Human Race will always Panic and cause more problems as they desperately try to locate all of their Family and Friends, while every SINGLE other Person without High Class or Elite Status will Also be Doing in a Frenzy... so ya they know what will happen and they know they can't save most of us.
      They are Saying We Are Over-Populated so that's another reason not to talk, and we've learned through, "if it comes down to me or you...." mentality, that Most Humans will Always Choose Their OWN LIFE over a Strangers... Always...

    Long Valley Caldera isn't near any major cities. The closest town is Mammoth Lakes, which is a mountain resort town that is popular with hikers in the summer and skiers in the winter/spring. Because of westerly winds it would impact Nevada and Utah more than California. I like to soak in the hot springs in the area.

    • @wannabetowasabe
      @wannabetowasabe 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The statement made in the video about being close to major cities is obviously false to anyone slightly familiar to the location of the Long Valley Caldera. Portions of the town of Mammoth Lakes are located on the western edge of the caldera, but with a population of 7,200 would not be considered a city. At 30 miles from the southern portions of the caldera is the City of Bishop, with a total metro area population of about 13,000 to 14,000 people, not a big city either. The Antelope Valley area of L.A. County is about 225-250 miles to the south and the city of Reno is about 160 miles to the north. Both could be considered major cities, but are not "nearby."

    • @just_kos99

      With resurgent dome calderas, usually called "supervolcanoes", prevailing winds don't mean squat.

    • @briane173
      @briane173 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@wannabetowasabe As the crow flies the nearest "major" city would be Fresno -- and the only threat the LVC would pose to Fresno would be ash and MAYBE pyroclastic flows down the San Joaquin River. However that's about a 70-mile trip downriver from Mammoth Mtn into Fresno and one would think a flow of even appreciable size would peter out mostly before it reached the Central Valley. The Bishop Tuff was a MASSIVE pyroclastic flow and it made it barely 10 miles before it ran outta gas just outside of Bishop. So the idea that there are "major" cities affected by the LVC is a bit of a stretch. This is mostly hype; I have no quarrel with the science presented here but it doesn't align with the titled of the video, which contradicts the bottom-line science here and is clearly clickbait.

      If it’s a super volcano, it doesn’t have to be close to any towns or cities to do. Major damage is completely different from a volcano.

    • @mkay1957
      @mkay1957 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The winds are usually from the west, but it depends on where the jet stream is during an eruption. Eddys form off to the sides of the jet stream and curl winds back around, kind of like water in a river curling back off to the sides.
      Here on the west slope of Sierras, the wind usually moves upslope during the day, especially on a hot day. In the evening it usually moves downslope, sometimes up to 7-8 knots. Any future eruption could potentially drop a lot of ash on the west slope of the Sierras. And if that happens in the fall when we occasionally get strong Diablo winds from the east, ash fall would be very heavy on the west slope and would travel out over the ocean.
      The flip side of that is if a future eruption happens during late winter/early spring, when the snow pack is at its deepest. Hundreds of thousands of acre ft. of water would be unleashed by the rapid snowmelt. If it happens when there is a heavy snow pack, like we had during the winter of 2022-2023, there would be massive flooding. Much of the Owens Valley would be inundated. Flood waters flowing into the actively erupting caldera would also cause phreatic explosions.

  • @ameliediamonds
    @ameliediamonds 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

    What is officially known about the caldera is that a solid rock structure is actually covering the magma chamber which is likely preventing big eruptions from occurring but the cooling process may release enough gas and liquid to cause earthquakes and small eruptions

    One phenomena of the Long Valley Caldera is the area around Horseshoe Lake on the south slopes of Mammoth Mountain near the city of Mammoth Lakes where the volcanic activity is releasing large amounts of Carbon Dioxide into the soil and air that has caused a lot of the trees in the area to die and forms an area of potential Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere hazards.

    • @wannabetowasabe

      Horseshoe Lake is not in the Long Valley Caldera so the two are not linked. The CO2 being released is due to a magma chamber deep underground. CO2 is a product of cooling magma and the emissions themselves are cold. This is one of the only wide spread releases of cold CO2 in the world. The magma chambers underneath Horseshoe Lake and the Long Valley Caldera are two distinct bodies of magma, not connected at all.
      The CO2 emissions began in the summer of 1989 after a earthquake swarm below below Mammoth Mountain caused changes in a fault underlying Horseshoe Lake and the west side of Mammoth Mountain. This as also opened up a "drain" of sorts that is responsible for water loss in the lake. The effects of this gas were first noted in the trees around the lake in the September-October period of 1989. There was an incident on March 11, 1990 where a U.S. Forest Service employee, on ski patrol in the Lakes Basin, entered a cabin near the lake and was nearly killed by a buildup of CO2 inside the cabin caused by the surrounding snow cover of about 10 feet in depth. The air pockets in snow cover absorb CO and because CO is heavier than air traps the gas and results in a high concentration of it. I'm quite familiar with the gas emissions and this particular incident.
      There is a very small hazard in the summer, where gas concentrations emitted from the soil lower to normal atmospheric levels less than half a inch above the surface. The hazard is the winter is greater due to the snow acting like a sponge for the gas. However, it is only when digging or otherwise being located below the surface of the snow that any potential hazard exists, such as being in a tree well or depression caused by drifting snow around a building.

    What kind of mess are we in for?
    We are limited in our self determinism by all the economic and social restrictions of an aberrated society. We are not free of food, clothing or shelter. We die when we get too cold, we perish when the oxygen content drops too low. We are living in a tolerance band which keeps us cramped to the face of one second-rate planet in a tenth-rate system, prey to all the ill will that blows. Is this being free or self-determined? Maybe we can be good enough to trick or bully our fellows into a security for ourself never before possible. But that is our only real route towards security. We must fight and command for our three squares meals a day, we must use police protection in order to keep ourself free of bullet holes and bumper marks. Compared to a truly self determined being, we are an ant ready to die under anybody’s mis-step. This universe is a rough universe. It is a terrible and deadly universe. Only the strong survive it, only the ruthless can own it. Given one weak spot a human being cannot long endure it for this universe will search it out and enlarge it and fester and probe it until that weak spot is a festering wound so large that the being is engulfed by their own sore. Fighting this battle for survival, and fight it we must, a being in this universe cannot seem to afford decency or charity or ethics; we cannot afford any weakness, any mercy. The moment we do we are lost - for we are surrounded by chilled, coarse rock and molten energy which, no matter our state of mind or our social surroundings, will engulf us instantly if we cease to obey the very least laws of this physical universe. This is a universe of force. It is not a universe of reason. Brutal, unthinking, without
    decency or mercy, physical force awaits with punishment any being with any weakness.

Started December 27th & besides Venice Beach, on Up to San Francisco area, massive tsunami waves were Also experienced in NE Australian coasts; B4 the 7.6 earthquake, off the coast of Noto peninsula in Japan on 12/31/23. Wajima City in Ishikawa prefecture was hit by a Tsunami on January 1st, 2024. Obviously All the activities are located in The Ring of Fire. My mind has been trying to make sense. Is the bottom of the Pacific Ocean the source?? Solar flare induced?? Are the Aliens who live in Our Oceans responsible?? I Am Completely Serious About this. I read the previous comments & I can summarize some are curious as I am, in the Actual proven science behind Earth, & the rest of the fascinating Universe. Yet others mock the mere thought.

    um vulcao com veios profundos serve como escape de pressao. Ao fazer o fluxo subterraneo do magma colar as fendas ocorrem diferencas de pressao e o vulcao de veios pode expelir massa mineral. Sao atividades nao controladas por humanos.
