i've experienced similar things too and have lost a lot of motivation to do art cos the algorithm in a past few years. and idk why but filming videos, especially tiktoks/reels always feels so awkward to me. but i do really want to continue art and hopefully one day grow a following tho all social medias kinda suck nowadays. with the hate, i think its more common to see if you do or like a lot of stuff like fanart, shipart or just anything sorta unconventional
Am glad to hear about your experience, and I think if you really want it you can achieve it. It might take longer that expected but with time you be able to get where you want to be, just remember, try and enjoy the process 😉.
I hate it as well my account was doing great in 2019-2020 then they forced reels on the algorithm and my post went from 4K-3K likes to barely reaching 200 likes and my followers told that they don’t see my posts anymore so I eventually stopped posting but I was posting stories everyday until I stopped when my views in stories dropped
I am glad you shared your story, I am happy that you put yourself first, because if what is the point of doing something if it takes joy away from you. I will you all the best and all the happiness because art is meant to bring you joy and peace😘, and thanks for liking my video🥰.
non artists are amazed by pretty pictures, to get a lot of popularity you just gotta embrace the most boring and vapid mentality to create your stuff (some people are already like this naturally, so it's easy for them)
ok, I'm gonna be real with you. Art is not a medium that people are often drawn to just... by itself. The key to growing on any platform is one thing and one things only: Relatability. Aesthetic is for clothes and makeup, stuff that you buy right off the bat without thought. Art? Art needs to invoke feeling, and there're no stronger feelings than nostalgia and relatability. Relatability, however, is the best way to open the gateway to new followers because they don't have to be part of a fandom or be invested in certain characters before they see value in your content. They can be anybody. And you want ANYBODY looking at your stuff. You can't afford to be picky when you're just starting out. You can draw eyes, puppies, cats, cute girls, make these snappy videos, etc., but none of it matters if people can't relate to it. That's why drawing things from Fan Art to Study work of existing people or creating time-lapse that show how you fumble and struggle to paint and draw are often more successful than "the perfect moment". Most Algorithms give your content a week to garner an audience. Sometimes they even give you a 3 week period, but you have to work to earn that. If it's "too much" for you learn the process of hashtags- i.e. just looking up other people who have similar content as you and copying their hashtags to see what works- maybe this isn't your passion. You want to make reels, but have trouble changing the angle? Then don't. Figure out a way to make it relatable by showing your whole process, using a voice over, or just jump cutting to certain parts of the drawing process despite the angle staying the same. Maybe use all three! Heck, close ups can be made artificially if you screen record, and there are free apps available to do so. And with Traditional art, figure out a jerry-rig to record your drawing as you make it. Then speed it up and put sound over it. Bam. Reel quality. Old content is pushed out on Instagram once you start getting a good follower base. They have no reason to do otherwise. Look, I know it's hard, and it's honestly a ton of work when you have a fulltime job. You lose sleep, you stop caring about things like laundry and cooking sometimes, and that's kind of the deep dive investment needed so that you can just trial and error. If you ever have a post that reaches more than your average, make more of that one post. Then branch and build off it once you get into the thousands. It's just... this isn't going to be easy. People won't just like your stuff because you made it, and that should be a given. Most people on Insta right now aren't even looking for art unless they are part of a fandom, memes, or intensely wholesome/relatable, and that's not a bad thing. We need to adapt, work hard, and keep pushing through. Everyone wants to see your art, but they won't if things being "too hard" isn't inspiring you to learn more, push more, and be creative in more ways than just posting. Besides, you're a graphics and UI designer. This is literally your bread and butter- figuring out the user experience and how to make an impact. Your most liked post is a video of you struggling to get just the right lines down for a traditional piece. Lean into that. USE HASHTAGS. It only got 18 likes because it was only pushed to people who are already following because you DIDNT USE HASHTAGS. You already have what it takes.
