Hey guys, with top Akshan becoming very popular I'll share some quick thoughts on it since this guide was made for mid lane. For top Akshan maxing Q is much more important the E, the reason being that unlike mid, most of the top champions are very strong in melee range so you really don't want to be E'ing into people during the lane phase. Crit is also going to be better than on hit most of the time top lane because you will typically vs armor stackers (basically any tank/bruiser) which makes LDR very valuable. Finally there aren't that many meta top laners that are AP so you won't get much value out of Wit's End which is a big reason why the on hit build is so strong.

Random tip that I think you missed in the video (this mostly applies to laning phase): Before you go in with E, try to get a stack of his passive on the enemy (either AA them or hit them with Q) because E will prioritize champions with passive stacks. Otherwise he'll start firing at whatever is closest (minions, usually).
This might be late but is super crucial, if you ignite them mid swing it will also focus them. Even though ignite does not give passive it causes E to focus on the dummy, if you don't believe me you can test it
superb guide !! this is really helpful. if u don’t mind me asking what ur advice is on builds going into patch 12.3. I’m wondering if starting cull is ever good & if the new botrk is viable. Also I like building RFC & I’m curious where to fit it in the build path. Like could it be Shieldbow, LDR, RFC. Or should I just stick with the builds from the guide. & sorry 4 so many questions
I think if you build RFC you probably build it second instead of LDR and look to go IE third. I also think BORK might be OP this patch but I'm not totally sure yet.
Thanks, always assumed you build Kraken together with the onhit build because you buy more attack speed with the item path. Kraken benefits from attack speed more than crit so I think I am not getting something here. Great video btw
Thank you! Kraken is good with the onhit build, but usually only get it over shieldbow if I need to kill tanks. If I need to kill tanks, I'll go the crit build instead so I can pick up LDR. That's why normally in my builds you will only see Kraken with the crit build even though it is good in the onhit build as well (just not as good as shieldbow IMO).
Note: Negatron cloak (In items section) doesn't build into wit's end. Null Magic Mantle does (which is what I think he was going for). A pretty good early buy still. :)

Not sure if you will notice since this is a pretty old video but i have a question regarding one clip used here. Why do you reset right after killing Kata at 26:55? Yeah, you have a decent amount of gold but enemy jungler and support are clearly visible on map and its a bit too early, dont you have more than enough time to clear this stacked wave before resetting? Am i missing something?
yes, kata is gonna spawn very fast and teleport most likely, also you need tempo (likely he will be late to scuttle fight or something if he doesn't back right there) i suggest diving deep into learning about tempo and tempo backing if u dont see a problem with clearing that extra wave
@@icehot900 kata most likely will not teleport on wave that is so far under akshans tower. even if she does, she has nothing to catch and she has no kill pressure, most she got after this back are boots or a tome. scuttle is already online and junglers are already fighting while akshan is recalling so its too late to reset before scuttle fight. in terms of tempo imo recall after this wave is perfect since you will be back in lane right when fortification drops and once junglers reset. and its not just a wave - it seems to be more than 2 waves in total and will put akshan behind on xp when he comes back to lane.

Yeah normally it's that way because the champions that use on hit benefit from attackspeed to shred tanks. So on hit build on Vayne for example gives the high attack speed to shred tanks with her W. It's the same with Kog'Maw where the onhit attackspeed benefits his W which deals % max HP which again shreds tanks. For Akshan this isn't really the case since he doesn't have any max HP damage. Crit on Akshan is definitely better vs tanks because you can buy LDR, where as onhit Akshan has no way to shred resistances. There's an argument that crit and onhit are pretty similar vs squishies on Akshan but it depends on the number of items. Honestly crit and onhit on Akshan are pretty similar in power atm so just buy what you prefer (but I would really recommend wit's end on hit vs ap teams).
There is a slight anti synergy but it's more that the other options compared to Cut Down just don't really do anything. If you were really worried about the anti synergy though you could swap Cut Down to Last Stand. Overgrowth is infinitely better than Shield Bash in terms of the value it provides.
That's what I thought at first too because that's how it works on Kog and Vayne. The difference is that Kog and Vayne both have % max HP damage (Kog magic damage, Vayne true damage). Akshan has neither of these and so has no way to deal with high HP armor stackers other than building LDR, which means you have to go crit. And against squishy champs you can burst them much faster with on hit. Hope that helped!
Excellent guide, really like your approach. I might be able to add one thing, it seems to me you didn't mention it. While invis in your W, it lets you know if you have been spotted by a control ward even if you for example didn't enter the brush where it is placed. Kind of acts like a red trinket for control wards that have vision of you.

not to undermine your experience on akshan, but as low elo players might run into the issue of mana inlane, which is where i disagree with the maxing. Akshan W gives a huge amount of missing mana regen when on a scoundrel path, and I, personally, find that sitting in lane and missing cs but getting EXP is better than full backing to get more mana. This is just how i feel and I dont claim to be a god at akshan or anything, but having the W available for the missing max mana and in low elo where someone probably has scoundrel permanently, i feel it would be good to at least have 1 point in.
It's totally fine to cater to your own playstyle if you find it benefits you! Skipping a point in W until level 8 is only a small optimization anyway so there's not much wrong with just skilling it early like normal.

Looked at "guides" for nunu and Jax before. This akshan guide is probably the first that is an actual guide and not just some gameplay of a guy smurfing.
It's pretty good against skillshot matchups, allows you to dodge important CDs and close the gap easier. Against Syndra for example it can be pretty good
Yea I just didn't really consider the W to be that important but I probably should have had a clip of it anyway. It's pretty useful for helping get yourself in a good flank position for the fight.
If you want to win 1v1 you basically have to pick a bruiser like Fiora, Jax etc. But if you just want to play a normal mid laner something with mobility/CC can be good like Liss, Ahri, LB, Vex. Worth noting that these champs do lose 1v1 to Irelia, but if you play safe in the early game you will shit on her in teamfights
I feel I dont qualify to give my input here, but Ive been having success going straight into Kraken slayer ---->Bork----> guinsoos even before completing bork/guinsoos, the raw damage from kraken slayer, PTA, akshans passive/E, and ignite, it is more than enough to kill the mid laner, shove lane, place/clear wards, roam bot/top, rinse and repeat.
Do you think, now that ShieldBow and Wit's End are nerfed, the build changes alot? Maybe Kraken Slayer is the new "go to" mythic? Maybe Maw is good now? I'd like to get your opinion on this if you can (I know this video already has 2 months, maybe you won't see it)
I think if you're playing top Akshan, you definitely go Hullbreaker > Kraken and probably more crit items like LDR, Rapidfire, IE, Stormrazor, basically just buy whichever crit item you need. If you're playing mid Akshan I still think Shieldbow Wit's is probably the best, unless you're vs an AD mid then maybe you can go the Hullbreaker build like top Akshan.
It's based on the angle you do it at, if you go in a practice tool you should be able to try it out. Also maybe you're cancelling it early by pressing E again?
You definitely do more damage with Kraken, but shieldbow makes you way harder to kill without losing much. If you find you do better with Kraken though just keep using it. Also if you look at pro match history it is mostly shieldbow on Akshan, but there are still some Kraken buys too so it's not going to be a massive difference.
Anything with a lot of CC, I think against Akshan in mid Cassio is pretty strong because she has high sustained DPS and generally does well against short range.
From my understanding the only thing being changed about Wit's End is its buildpath? If that's the case it's probably a buff since its build path is awful at the moment but it's really good when completed.

I think if you want to go lethality just commit to it and don't go wit's end. I'm not sure how good eclipse is on Akshan so if you wanted to do this I'd do something like serrated dirk > shieldbow/kraken > collector > ldr/serylda > IE
Hi Shok, thanks for the video. Quick question: Why take both cut down and overgrowth? Doesn't the HP from overgrowth diminish cut down value? Or is it not enough HP to matter?
Yeah it's not really enough HP and also the whole line of coup de grace/cut down/last stand are all pretty useless, cut down just is the least useless (still only does like 300 damage though).

Why you don't advice to build serylda in situation or in the last item ? You don't build armor pen with crit ? Armor pen is very strong against tanky team. You cannot do dmg against tank witouth armor pen. (or you have item who deal dmg in health %.) Lethality is just good against squishy. I don't know one ad or assassin champ who don't build armor pen in 3th or sometime in second item ! (When I look at opgg statistic, I see Stormrazor and RFC in highest winrate stat 🤔) (English not my first language :-p )
@@morgant6508 If you want armor pen go LDR (Lord Dominik's Regards) not Serylda. I say in the video that if you are vsing tanks to go crit and to build LDR second item, especially if you are playing top lane Akshan. Rapidfire does look high winrate, I'll have to try it more.
I tried during more than 2 hours this morning (I live in Belgium). Rapidfire seems overpriced compared to Phantomdancer Bloodthirster seems overprinced too. Botrk is better on akshan. And if you build in last item or before, I think LDR is better if you don't build this earlier. In fact, LDR is veru strong in 3th item or maybe in... second item ! Maybe against tank/bruiser (specially on toplane), you have to try BOTRK and LDR. But the problem (for me) is the lack of mobility. The E have a long cdr if you don't kill and I'm jungler in first and I like to move very fast toward the map. With PD you have 400 movespeed earlier. If you don't build PD or zeal, for me you lack of movespeed. I tried the dps against different creature (pv and armor). The dps is higher with... dps build but you have to deal during 5 second non stop and in a lot of game you don't dps during 5 second and maybe never !! You are in teamfight and you deal 2 attack, then you move back then you deal 2 attack, etc. And with akshan, you deal with spell too. So mathematically it is difficult to chose... The difference is sure in abilities dmg, specially the ultimate. With attack build (like an adc : shieldbow, berzerker, IE, PD, LDR...), you deal more than 300 dmg more with ur ulti ! And after more than 2 hours, I miss to try a midgame build or late game build with Kraken (or Galeforce) and BOTRK (because the lifesteal can be ok with botrk... and kraken deal more dmg), but... I was out xD So Stormrazor out for me, rapidfire too. and The collector was not specially in best build. Guinsoo can be switched too a lot. The collector is under IE and you have a lot of item to build. Guinsoo seems good but the same : it is just in AS on hit build it seems better but you have a lot item to build before in a lot of game (wit's end if ap, PD, dominik for more true dmg...). Guinsoo just give you as and... dmg. But you have item who give realy higher dmg or other statistic. Sooooo, it is over for me in custom xD I will try in normal game now :-p Ps : hey no I tried Kraken botrk berzerker PD dominik IE, and dmg are insane :-o (against 2000 hp and 60 in def or 100 or 150)

One thing you missed is rapid fire cannon as a situational item. Against champions like Caitlyn Tristana it can really help you carry.

Anything with a lot of CC, I think against Akshan in mid Cassio is pretty strong because she has high sustained DPS and generally does well against short range.

Shok, with wits being nerfed would the build path change?
From my understanding the only thing being changed about Wit's End is its buildpath? If that's the case it's probably a buff since its build path is awful at the moment but it's really good when completed.

I think if you want to go lethality just commit to it and don't go wit's end. I'm not sure how good eclipse is on Akshan so if you wanted to do this I'd do something like serrated dirk > shieldbow/kraken > collector > ldr/serylda > IE

Hi Shok, thanks for the video. Quick question: Why take both cut down and overgrowth? Doesn't the HP from overgrowth diminish cut down value? Or is it not enough HP to matter?
Yeah it's not really enough HP and also the whole line of coup de grace/cut down/last stand are all pretty useless, cut down just is the least useless (still only does like 300 damage though).
Do you recommend Essence Reaver?
Nah I think there are way better items.

@@ShokLeague Ok bro, that's because I saw a video of chinese player who build stormrazer (against squishy), and I saw too serylda against tank (specially effective at the toplane) in second item. Why you don't advice to build serylda in situation or in the last item ? You don't build armor pen with crit ? Armor pen is very strong against tanky team. You cannot do dmg against tank witouth armor pen. (or you have item who deal dmg in health %.) Lethality is just good against squishy. I don't know one ad or assassin champ who don't build armor pen in 3th or sometime in second item !

@@morgant6508 If you want armor pen go LDR (Lord Dominik's Regards) not Serylda. I say in the video that if you are vsing tanks to go crit and to build LDR second item, especially if you are playing top lane Akshan.
Rapidfire does look high winrate, I'll have to try it more.
I tried during more than 2 hours this morning (I live in Belgium). Rapidfire seems overpriced compared to Phantomdancer
Bloodthirster seems overprinced too. Botrk is better on akshan. And if you build in last item or before, I think LDR is better if you don't build this earlier.
In fact, LDR is veru strong in 3th item or maybe in... second item ! Maybe against tank/bruiser (specially on toplane), you have to try BOTRK and LDR.
But the problem (for me) is the lack of mobility. The E have a long cdr if you don't kill and I'm jungler in first and I like to move very fast toward the map. With PD you have 400 movespeed earlier. If you don't build PD or zeal, for me you lack of movespeed.
I tried the dps against different creature (pv and armor). The dps is higher with... dps build but you have to deal during 5 second non stop and in a lot of game you don't dps during 5 second and maybe never !! You are in teamfight and you deal 2 attack, then you move back then you deal 2 attack, etc. And with akshan, you deal with spell too. So mathematically it is difficult to chose...
The difference is sure in abilities dmg, specially the ultimate. With attack build (like an adc : shieldbow, berzerker, IE, PD, LDR...), you deal more than 300 dmg more with ur ulti !
And after more than 2 hours, I miss to try a midgame build or late game build with Kraken (or Galeforce) and BOTRK (because the lifesteal can be ok with botrk... and kraken deal more dmg), but... I was out xD
So Stormrazor out for me, rapidfire too. and The collector was not specially in best build. Guinsoo can be switched too a lot. The collector is under IE and you have a lot of item to build. Guinsoo seems good but the same : it is just in AS on hit build it seems better but you have a lot item to build before in a lot of game (wit's end if ap, PD, dominik for more true dmg...). Guinsoo just give you as and... dmg. But you have item who give realy higher dmg or other statistic.
Sooooo, it is over for me in custom xD I will try in normal game now :-p
Ps : hey no I tried Kraken botrk berzerker PD dominik IE, and dmg are insane :-o (against 2000 hp and 60 in def or 100 or 150)

What do you think about Serylda's instead of LDR vs teams like Warwick, Volibear etc? + when do you buy Stormrazor?
Could be a decent option if you need to kite heavily yeah. Personally I've never bought Stormrazor on Akshan.
