Maintenance and hygiene are the keys, for soon it will accumulate smudges through dust, sweat, dirt, mold, bed bugs, garbage, etc., plus the odor. It makes sense that it is preferable to use concrete, plastic, or metal rather than wood to facilitate regular and easy scrubbing. Good luck.
