Just want to shout out Ceracalpol for recommending running CDDA at the time. By far the best video I've done and one of the most fun experience I've had with the community. Even have an idea or want to see someone test something, pop into Twitch with us some time. www.twitch.tv/bv_gan
Great start to CDDA. I've got a few hundred hours in the game myself, and I've never even seen that temperature screen before hahaha, thanks for teaching me something!
I just use the fence cheese to clear out the farm zombies. Usually works. You can easily do it in the barn if you need to get warm. There's 4 fence walls in the barn.
18:53 HOL UP did you just pick up broken glass with your bear hands without injuring yourself? Your character is either really skilled or really lucky.
You know I've picked up a lot of glass in game, I don't recall ever cutting myself in either build. Granted I've already ensured I'm hearing gloves on my characters but here I'm not so maybe I am that luck.
Definitely not a sure thing with the hands. When you step on glass you'll get glass lodged but it'll make no sense if picking up glass that would happen all the time. Even jumping through a broken window will scratch and something lacerate you.
You're brilliant, mister. I thought i wasn't possible anymore, but followed your advice. I sneaked around the northern farmhouse to the small shed above it (lesser zeds and some a night of sleep before going to the farm itself). Was able to beat the cold and healed the wound. Survived the heli event, but my main struggle now is.. how to keep the weight up? I'm trying to get a fishing rod, but no clue how to get bait during winter.
So the honest answer is you're not. CDDA starting in winter is rough and you should expect to go underweight and possibly lower. Your build and occupation affects this but if you have setup for fishing I would probably go for chum. Find a sack and a shovel, create sack of sand and then make chum. I believe there are recipes that let you turn any meat to chum too so if you find that then you can go to the farm and butcher the animals since the game loads them dead in CDDA. Finally I think maggots can be used as bait in place of worms but I'm not 100 on that. For me during the winter I still forage. Acorns can be found which are high fat, along with rosehip which doesn't spoil and has a good fat content. Keeps my calories up and I tend to say in the mid 70s
good content and good play on the CDDA challenge, i can tell you that the CDDA challenge in actual CDDA (Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead) is a hell of a lot more difficult then in zomboid.
@@Bv_gan id start with learning CDDA's controls first the game has a notorious learning curve and that is what most people find the defining factor for even playing the game at all :) Good luck on your venture brave adventures :D
Do it! CDDA will kill you multiple times in the first few minutes just waking up in the burning house. It's half the fun to just be hoping for a good roll on the start. Skill does come into play after you get out of the house but Zomboid is a game about repetition and experience. I've raged quit for a solid month after losing a 6 month character. It's part of the charm.
Yup CDDA just got really hard. There is almost no safe place near Muldragh, even the cabin with a Well has about couple hundred zombies. Also you can’t do the sprint animation while hurt in B42. For a long run you definitely need wilderness recipes and foraging boost.
It's not that hard. For safe places head west. You're still faster when crouch sprinting. You can do just fine without survival skills. There's plenty of food since CDDA is only one rarity setting higher than Apocalypse. There are a lot of animals to eat and enough time to learn survival skills even without specialization, though that is optional.
I've always said the ccda makes no sense because of the exact same reason. The only semi plausible reasoning I've heard is that "the player lost their entire family the day before because of the cold. Had a break down and got drunk, said f it I'm going out with a bang then came to the senses" I still don't see it as realistic
I feel like the challenge should be over once you recover from all the injury/negative moodles and have a decent stock of food/not feel food scarcity in a base. Bonus points for acquiring a functional vehicle and generator for the base
We all suck until it clicks. A few of the bigger Zomboid tubers have run videos on "how many play hours of zomboid until you're good". I have 700+ hours in game man and there are still things I'm learning. I'm just good at my play style if that makes sense.
Its all about practise what BV said, i have over 3000hours in the game and this update has messed my play style something fierce showing you that even a minor change can turn you back into a noob again. At-least i have the hours to understand on when to back off and also map knowledge is very important.
they ve broken all meat foods in 42. now even if u eat 2 cows per day - u still lose weight. the only hardeness of b42 - not to die, couse losing weight)
My man, I play a vegan character in game intentionally. I do not know what you are doing but I have no trouble staying between 76 and 80 kilos. Add that we're clearing Muldraugh in our current running series and I've killed 600+ zombies in under a month. Full permission to advert your stream or links so I can give you some feedback.
Okay, so hunger and calories are different in game. Calories are a hidden value without mods or the nutritionist trait. Generally speaking berries are not high in calories and are actually one of the lowest calorie items in game. Between mushrooms and berries when foraging, use mushrooms if your weight is an issue. Berries are a good way to manage thirst and conserve water. However, crops veggies and fruits (as categories for foraging) are way better to get once you have the foraging level. Stay away from radishes as they are the lowest all around. Avocados I believe are the highest fat plant food in game in build 41 but I'm not sure for build 42. Eat more fat, gain boost to weight gain.
@@Bv_gan i ve ate full cow per day - still losing weight, i ve ate fruits non stop - still losing weight. Seems like now only fat in food works to weight, not callories, as before.
Eating a full cow isn't contextually accurate here. Example, build 41 beef patty gives 400 calories roughly. Assuming that the butchery skill was implemented similar to foraging which would mean your level impacts the quality of the time and number of items produce. So even assuming a single cow gives 2K calories when you eat all that it has to offer we still have to have the calories in vs calories out conversation. I do not know how many calories you burn in a day. The range of calories the body can manage in game are -2200 to positive 4000. So if you were already in the negative range a single cow won't reset your weight loss. Add that you'll be full when you're done eating so if you go fight a horde of zombies and burn those calories then you never made it to a positive or neutral state. It's a math issue here and I can't really tell you what could be going on without seeing the variables of your gameplay.
@@Bv_gan most things are the same. zombies are sometimes in more inconvenient quantities in bad places. but theyre slow now. and getting food and weapons is easier in many ways the biggest new challenge is figuring out how to not bait too many zombies at once
@zeratultemplar6604 yeah man. We did this video to prove that. Grant muscle strain is something to learn to manage but long term survivalist don't really have that problem because we don't go looking for or taking big fights. I love b42 right now.
Lol. I have actually. I was amused for sure. I also appreciate that well water can be tainted as well. Speaking as a person who has lived off well water and treatment is not easy
@@Bv_gan haha I'm telling you I cleaned 5 houses in the bottom right of Muldraugh but is imposible to go foward, zombies come from every place there is no way to progress. It seems they want us to go sneak and try to grab something and run, no more going into psycho killer mode cleaning and killing everything.
I disagree. Shameless plug, you should check out my current running survival, we've cleared about 1/3 of Muldraugh within a month as of tomorrow's video upload. I will say that they want you to roleplay your character build. If you're looking for a melee fighter try this build: Fire officer, wakeful brawler athletic strong, standard negative traits will fit. Spawn and get an axe or long blunt, you'll see a massive difference in combat.
comments like this make me wanna upload videos cause you still become op just like maybe 30 zombies a day go home , 30 more , go home before like 90 in a day was a solid number if you werent particularly fit .

I've assumed the loss of spearfishing and spear nerf are the biggest complications with b42 CDDA. But I'll have to try it to see how it goes.

A lot of the veterans are just struggling to adjust. By the time build 42 is in the main branch people will have figured themselves out.

Technically the challenge isn't beat until you have a self sustaining farm and every item crafted. Imo.
Well I'll be working on something of that effect on the main series
What’s the character build?
Park ranger: Eagle eyed, former scout, outdoorsy, wilderness knowledge. Slower learner, hearty appetite, prone to illness, reluctant fighter, weak stomach, slow reader, Sunday Driver.
I'll add this to the description too.
