    Shatterpoint is pretty cool, can't lie.

    This overview makes Shatterpoint seem really great. It appears to have a lot more tactical depth than other skirmish games, and just enough flavorful selection strategy in hero+mook selection. Might be worth a try.

    I'm excited about this game, and getting the starter. My only hesitation is investing in a game where the game developer doesn't own the IP. There have been a few Star Wars games that have come and gone because the developer didn't renew their license with Lucas/Disney.

    • @Crushanator1
      @Crushanator1 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And that often isnt fully up to them either. The cost of the license can double each year until its too expensive, or Disney can simply not renew as another publisher decides to drop a huge initial fee to snag it out from someone else.

      well, at least this developer has pretty long and successful relations with Disney. So there is hope)

    I am so excited for this game, the folks at my FLGS are getting excited about this game as well! Move over MCP!

    I work for an FLGS, and I am building the shop's demo copy as I was watching. Looks like a lot of fun.

    I would like to get into Shatterpoint, but I have invested too much into Star Wars Legion (large-scale war game) and Kill Team (Skirmish war game). Now, my Kill Teams might join up for a Combat Patrol in the future, lol.

    Have you played Arena Rex? It was a skirmish game with a similar damage tree but with a gritty colosseum feel. Also, really enjoyed the review. Best summary I have seen yet as it wasn't long winded and just to the point! Cheers

      Which is pretty crazy because honestly long winded and rambling is the definition of my content normally!

    Good review. Can't wait for my copy. I really like the struggle track and the objective focussed play.
    It is definitely not just about doing damage and killing. It is actually pretty hard to kill a main character - another plus for me. I hate it when you misplay or are unlucky and that "star" / favourite piece has to wait for next week to do something again :)
    Just to add, you can reserve a card to play later and the shatterpoint card enables you to activate any unit, including one that has already gone - it also helps with the random activation...

    Dammit, Lynch. I had talked myself out of buying this but decided I would give you the clicks and such...

    How do you feel about drawing cards as being your activation? Do you feel it’s random to where it’s “unfun” like you want to take an objective back but can’t since you didn’t draw a squad nearby?

    I like the super dynamic aspect of the attack mechanism, but it also seems like a lot to track and choose from ... that might slow things down or take me out of the theme.

    • @GlassHalfDead
      @GlassHalfDead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you're right. You have a lot of decision points in every attack, so inevitbably it will be a slower thing to do than in another game where you just have to decide if you want to attack or not. Although I think that once you know the system, it really does come down to knowing which step goes towards your goal, and once you know your goal, the tree becomes simple enough. Are you trying to heal yourself, deal max damage, or move the enemy off a point? Once you know, you know.

    Thanks for the review. Ive dipped my toe in with killteam and with hivestorm inbound, im very tempted to invest in the new edition on release but shatterpoint is calling 🤔 shatterpoint does seem a lot more interactive with randomised activations and objectives in the struggles.

    • @GlassHalfDead
      @GlassHalfDead  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If I had an active Shatterpoint group near me, I'd happily have it as a secondary game. It's totally different to KT in every way. But it's good fun. Tabletop Impulse (another KTer) has just started dipping their toes into it, so maybe check out some of his shatterpoint videos as he of course references KT a bunch as he discusses it.

      @GlassHalfDead I will go and check them out! Local support for both games is pretty strong but coming into wargaming/hobbying within the last year it's been a bit overwhelming sticking to just one system and Killteam had been pretty hard to come in to as a newer player but a new edition seems the right time to commit. Either way I'm going to have to learn the systems

    A game that is advertised and actually available to be purchased? Shatterpoint you have my money.
    The struggle tracker is ingenious.
    Also, you've missed an entire education about Starwars if you haven't watched the Clone Wars / rebellion/ bad batch animated series. Best story line ever written in that universe.

    I love this game. Maybe more than KT now. I've been watching some other channels so far and it looks really fun. Competitive maybe? Theres another RNG factor but certainty placed elsewhere. Killing is good but not as big as KT. Also LoS is so much more pleasant here.

    It's been too long since I was able to enjoy a double pleasantry. It was Shatterpoint that brought me back.

    Do you have to send the game back or did they gift it to you?

    • @GlassHalfDead
      @GlassHalfDead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was sent the corebox early to review so I get to keep it, yes. My intent is to make more videos with it, of course. If I was only given it to review in a single video, I wouldn't have agreed as it would not have been worth my time learning the game, playing it, making the video etc

    Only one thing i hate or few things? are lack or zero marketing outside of USA. WH40K or AoS is literraly everywhere, but Shatterpoint, Legion is...killed...I have my copy but in Europe is almost 0 playerbase :( why... :(

    Fantastic overview Andy, looking forward to seeing more shatterpoint mixed in with your kill team content. I also definitely recommend you do give conquest (both first blood and the last argument of kings) a try. It's an amazing setting and system, and I'd love to see your take on it.

    This is an unfair comparison for Kill Team, you could compare any skirmish game to Kill Team and kill team loses everytime because this new edition of kill team really really sucks yes I hate it, the older edition of kill team was way way better.
