I wonder how well DE would be doing if the political rolls were just average? Last 5 dice rolls of 50/50 have only been 1/5.

If they managed to pick up Hungary and Greece with enough rolls to spare to take a swing at, say, Spain, and succeed, that might change the overall strategic calculus, but I don't think their military disposition changes that much otherwise.
I suspect the political die rolls that have been most influential in establishng the current situation were the gangbusters political rolls by the Soviets to bring both Poland and Rumania online as allies and getting an Influence marker in Czechoslovakia, thus guaranteeing that attacking that country would spark war with the Soviet faction. Will that cost Germany the game? Hard to say - we'll have to see how campaign year 1944 goes and where Germany ends up when it gets either the SS Europa or No Retreat marker on the board. (No spoilers about which will be picked just yet!)
