Time to relook into this with HBO recreating it. For Dumbledore, it's Jared Harris for me. I don't care he's younger, him playing his fathers original role would be just legendary. He has that unique calming voice too.
Snape is 31 in Philosopher's Stone, and Harry's parents are only 21 when they die. Adam Driver only seems "a little young" because the movies portrayed their characters as waaay too old.
The ONLY person who should be brought over from the original series...is maestro John Williams. Just let him score THE ENTIRE thing this time. He completely nailed the "sound" of the wizarding world and I honestly can't imagine the world without his music.
Yeah definitely, though I wouldn't be too mad if James Newton Howard did it, because the music he composed for Fantastic Beasts really captured the magic and wonder of the wizarding world
Cyclonado Thunderclaw maybe both? Just PLEASE don’t let Alexandre Desplat go near them again. I love Alexandre’s work, but his style didn’t really fit the wizarding world.
@@TheMissingLink1 what? Lily's theme is absolutely fantastic. Idk, Alexander Desplat I thought did amazing, and Shape of Water has proved he can do some very emotional fantasy feeling music when hes told to. In my opinion though, it should be a new composer. When it comes to Severus' age I guess it would be alright to have someone younger like Adam Driver as Snape considering he should be around his 30's as the story begins. He is indeed and amazing actor and so fitting for the role :)
Andrew Scott would be amazing as Quirrell. All anxious and stuttering, until the finale where he kind of takes on a similar persona and body language to what he brought to Sherlock as Moriarty. Super threatening, while almost humorous in his carefree attitude.
its mostly for accent purposes. it would make sense that the series would have a British accent rather than an American one. The accent in the movies seems like a detail but it is as important as the writing or actor's delivery. It adds layers of depth and ambiance to the general atmosphere and feeling of immersion of a story. So If the actor is American but has a nice Oxford accent that would also be valid. (I'm not British btw).
I cannot comprehend the mandate that 'the entire cast has to be British'. People, it's called *acting*. If the actor can master the accent, that's all that matters. The wrong nationality can be good, or can be bad (e.g. Sophie Turner's American accent as Jean Grey).
@@bangchanswebbrowsinghistor5145 I agree that having uniform accents is important. I was bugged in the Star Wars sequels that most of the characters had American accents (including Finn, even though John Boyega is British), except for Rey, inexplicably. Why was she allowed to sound posh and British, but Boyega had to pretend he's American? Was it because Rey was a thinly-veiled copy of Bastila Shan? We'll never know I guess. But it also bugged me about Kingdom Come Deliverance. The accents are totally randomized there. That said, Adam Driver is pretty good at accents. I've heard him do Southern, Texan and English, and he's solid in all of them. So I think he can pull it off. My first reaction to seeing him as Kylo Ren without the mask was "THAT'S SNAPE WTF". He even has the same dry sense of humor as Snape. So I can totally see it.
If they did a tv series, I think JK Rowling would need to step away from the project. It needs to only rely on the books and previous movies. Nothing should feel like the Cursed Child or anything found on Twitter as “canon” because if it was canon it would’ve been in the books.
And we could restore McGonagall's actual age if we based her on the books and not the films. According to the books she's only middle-aged. Nothing against Maggie Smith's portrayal, but technically she was too old to play McGonagall.
Back in the day, JK made sure the films stayed true to the books and that all the actors were British. It makes me so fucking sad that we can’t trust her with that sort of thing anymore.
@@zingzangspillip1 Ha ha. That seems more like something up Snape's alley:) But seriously, it's mentioned over and over again but their eyes aren't even the same color in the films.
this was a big deal for me, in the books they mention it ALL the time, and they were supposed to be green, they even mention it on the movies, while the actress of Lily had BROWN eyes and Daniel had BLUE eyes, AAAAAAAAA
Adam Driver is probably my favorite actor ever and he really is perfect for it. The face, the voice (minus the accent), the hair (omg), and his acting skills are just so on point for Snape. Btw, I totally agree that Adam Driver as Kylo Ren/Ben Solo was the best thing to come out of the sequel trilogy, just saying. Also, I saw someone say that Tom Felton is right around the perfect age to play Lucious Malfoy. I totally agree. I would love to see that. Someone else also mentioned Emma Watson as Trelawney. That would be perfect!
It's so hard to imagine anyone else playing all of these classic characters, but if this show were to come to light, you got all of these picks spot on!!
I want a Harry Potter tv series that combines the feeling of childish wonder of the first two movies, and cinematography of the third. And also to stay more loyal to the characterizations described in the books, and to include all the necessary subplots. Tom Riddle's childhood, for an example, was completely removed from the 6th film, which in turn removed an extremely important element of the whole series. They clung onto lazy tropes just and made Voldemort into just another baddie in favour of whoosh whoosh bang bang CGI effects.
@@ohwowitsthatguy9154 True, but removing his backstory made it even worse. At least with his history, we know why he turned out to be such a two-dimensional baddie.
Anna Minor 100%. The wonder and the exploration I felt watching the first movie and reading the first book was incredible to me. I honestly don’t know how to explain it but it was so uplifting, liberating even
Recently started rewatching the Harry Potter movies to get in the spirit for Hogwarts Legacy, and the moment that actually brought me to tears was at the end of Chamber of Secrets when Harry said, "It's not Hogwarts without you Hagrid" and yeah, that just brought a rush of emotions for me
@WreckNRepeat I actually think her charm would add to Umbridge - have you seen Colman in Fleabag? Her character in that has shades of Umbridge, superficial charisma/sweetness (like Umbridge's kittens and ribbons) that peel away to reveal an absolutely horrible, selfish core. It's played for laughs in Fleabag but I think Olivia could bring a really poisonous edge to Umbridge that's even more scary because she pretends to be so 'lovely'
Who else sees Cillian Murphy being a great Lucius Malfoy? I think that he'd do an amazing job at exploring the deeper character moments in the later books
He could have been an amazing older Tom Riddle, except the fucker had to go and die and resurrect looking like a motherfucking reptile, so I guess I'll settle for Cillian playing Lucius
As much i love Andrew Scott and wish that he could be "cast" in a bigger roll i think u hit it right on the money with the fact hed be an amazing quirell.

@@CK-js1ww YES! HBO doing a HP series with 10 1h eps/year would be great! They could really follow the books and explore the worldbuilding without doing random scenes and weird romances like in the movies. No other studio would be able to do this as good as HBO, so either that or well animated are the only options.
Me: No, I don't care who he says for Snape. Alan Rickman was perfect and I'd rather they use freaky de-aging software than cast anyone else. Bryan: Adam Driver Me: Oh my goodness! That's freaking perfect. Dang it! I want to see him play Snape.
The first time I saw adam driver in scene my poor brain melted a bit trying to figure out how alan rickman looked younger and was in a movie even though he is dead lol
No no no Adam Driver is not too young! Harry’s parents died a year after they left hogwarts, Adam driver is the perfect age! That’s why petunia should be younger and so should all the others in the same year as Harry’s parents :D
No they actually died when they were 21, a couple of years after they left Hogwarts. But that is still really young, so yeah Adam Driver is not to young. Because Snape would be 31 in the first film. 😊
Right he is in his early 30s when Harry starts school. Harry Parents died at age 21. McGonnagall was also not as old as she was in the movies. If we ever get a series i would want them to consider that. I also would want more quidditch. We never really saw them win the cup in 3rd year or we never got to see the world cup.

Why not Snape? He could be as good as Voldemort, maybe even better, it would be like a combination of Turing and that one he played in Star Track movie.

I think he killed it as Sirius. Sirius is meant to be a different kind of Dumbledore. The kind that relates to Harry more. He's like Dumbledore but less Headmaster. More well _cool_

i loved the shopped versions of the actors as their chosen roles. Sometimes I couldn't really picture the actors as the character but whenever the shopped version showed it clicked and I saw how they could fit the character really well
Driver would be perfect as Snape. From the moment he took off that helmet in TFA, I was like, "Holy crap it's Severus Snape!" Plus I think his performance as Kylo perfectly embodied the right combination of arrogance, self-loathing, regret, and resentment that we see in Snape. I'm imagining a few of Snape's scenes from the films and I'm having zero trouble imagining Driver instead of Alan Rickman.
I agree. After rewatching TFA and TLJ last week, I texted my friend, "Snape and Kylo Ren are almost identical characters! Both long haired melodramatic men with deep voices that like insulting people but die in a redemptive moment because of their obsession over some girl"
Adam Driver really isn't on the young side--he's only 2 years younger than Snape is when he dies, and he is five years older than Snape is at the beginning.
@@hannahc2265 That's what I meant lol. Alan played Snape perfectly and nobody could ever beat him in terms of acting, but in terms of age, he was wayyy too old which wasn't realistic for the character. He made Snape look old enough to be Harry's grandfather rather than his father's old rival at school. But If they were to reboot Harry Potter, I would scream in delight if Adam was cast as Snape because as well as being a superb actor, he is actually the right age. @@hannahc2265 to be fair, when they first casted snape not all the books were out and there was no confirmation on the marauder-era people's ages. it turned out that james and lily were like 20 when they had harry which is pretty young for parenthood. snape is ~31 in the first book which is younger than one would have assumed without access to that knowledge

Voldemort school years HAS to be written by J.K Rowling, and she alone. Give her some time to write the novel(s) first, then adapt into TV or movies. This really brought back a nostalgic magic that I got from Harry Potter back in the day. Great video and I really hope its seen by the right eyes one day

@@padraiccrawford2786 Yes he did, in the movies, the "parents" (James and Lily's generation) look a lot older than they actually are. But one of the most heartbreaking things in the books, is seeing how young everyone really is.
Honestly, as someone who has always had criticism for the movies because of how they had to boil down a lot of the story to fit it to the medium, I start to open up to the idea of a TV series, especially since it has been 20 years since HP made his appearance on the big screen. Visually Daniel Radcliffe and Co. are burned into my mind as the cast, but I think enough time has passed for there to go for a new iteration, that can delve deeper into the story and characters. Your vid made me excited about this, and I think you pulled up some fantastic ideas!
I want whoever is cast as Dumbledore to be a delightful quirky wizard, as he is in the books. He needs to look like Merlin, not like a reprobate who lives under a bridge. I was appalled when Gambon's had dirty fingernails, that stupid string cinching his beard, his dirty-looking costume (plants could sprout from the hem), and obviously was oblivious as to HOW Dumbledore should be...his rage-y attacking Harry about the Goblet of Fire, just about everything he did was wrong. I want the new Dumbledore to be magical and more like Chris Columbus' and JKR's ideas of him... a classic wizard. And all the Marauders-era characters are in their 30s when Harry gets to Hogwarts. They shouldn't be played by "old guys'. You're right! Simon Pegg would be a hoot as Peeves.
Nah harry potter is british and we have plenty of excellent actors here that we really don’t need american ones. It may not be apparent to those outside the UK but Michael Caine doesn’t have the right accent to be Dumbledore. Caine has a very strong cockney accent, Dumbledore’s accent should be more Received Pronunciation (RP); better suited actors that come to mind are Ian McKellen or Patrick Stewart.
As an American I can only detect the really obvious British accents yet I noticed in that Batman scene his accent was rather cockney not as regal sounding as I imagine Dumbledore having. I agree. And as someone else pointed out, he’s 87, he really couldn’t commit to a decade of films. As much as I’d love to see an Ian McKellan or Patrick Stewart, they’d really need someone more in their 50s or 60s with the stamina to do a long running series.
@@ssssSTopmotion of course but I don’t think you realise that not all actors are good at accents. Samuel L Jackson always sounds like Samuel L Jackson, Michael Caine always sounds like Michael Caine.
He was actually considered for it after Richard Harris died two movies in (side note: Harris was aware that his health might prevent him from playing the character throughout the entire series and only took the role because his granddaughter urged him to) but declined because it was too similar to the role of Gandalf - and because Harris really didn't like McKellen's acting.
ok this is kind of crazy but how about a slightly aged Taika Waititi? He should at least have some hand in production; there is an element of whimsical-ness to the characters he plays that was totally missing in dumbledore from the harry potter movies but one of my favorite bits of the books. After all, if this did hypothetically happen, it probably wouldn't be for another couple of years, at least enough for Waititi to be in his fifties, and he does have a weathered look to him. If not that, then peeves or something; that Korg energy was one of my favorite things about the series, and would be a necessary element to cut up the darker bits of the show
There should be a tv series sticking more true to the books. Books have so much stuff and those were not there in the films. Lot of characters have more stories to say.
I know right? There are a shit ton of people saying that the movies are the best and that you shouldn't touch them while many good scenes were either sped up or skipped altogether.

Andrew Scott would be amazing as Quirrell. All anxious and stuttering, until the finale where he kind of takes on a similar persona and body language to what he brought to Sherlock as Moriarty. Super threatening, while almost humorous in his carefree attitude.
To everyone who is complaining about Adam Driver being an American, I say this:
We have two Brits currently playing Superman and Spider-Man.
its mostly for accent purposes. it would make sense that the series would have a British accent rather than an American one. The accent in the movies seems like a detail but it is as important as the writing or actor's delivery. It adds layers of depth and ambiance to the general atmosphere and feeling of immersion of a story. So If the actor is American but has a nice Oxford accent that would also be valid. (I'm not British btw).
Yeah, but Americans are generally worse at accents lol
I cannot comprehend the mandate that 'the entire cast has to be British'. People, it's called *acting*. If the actor can master the accent, that's all that matters. The wrong nationality can be good, or can be bad (e.g. Sophie Turner's American accent as Jean Grey).
Colleen Hysell Spot on. It’s like the people that cry about gay roles going to straight actors. Grow tf up
@@bangchanswebbrowsinghistor5145 I agree that having uniform accents is important.

Not the movies, please. We can leave those in the past where they belong.
And we could restore McGonagall's actual age if we based her on the books and not the films. According to the books she's only middle-aged. Nothing against Maggie Smith's portrayal, but technically she was too old to play McGonagall.
It needs to completely rely on the books.
Back in the day, JK made sure the films stayed true to the books and that all the actors were British. It makes me so fucking sad that we can’t trust her with that sort of thing anymore.
They'd 100% hire her to create a leftist dreamscape with no anchoring in the original material. 😍

this was a big deal for me, in the books they mention it ALL the time, and they were supposed to be green, they even mention it on the movies, while the actress of Lily had BROWN eyes and Daniel had BLUE eyes, AAAAAAAAA
They did try. Daniel Radcliffe couldn't wear contacts without having a terrible reaction. Not sure why they cast young Lily as a brown-eyed girl.

Well acted shit story tho
I want a Harry Potter tv series that combines the feeling of childish wonder of the first two movies, and cinematography of the third. And also to stay more loyal to the characterizations described in the books, and to include all the necessary subplots. Tom Riddle's childhood, for an example, was completely removed from the 6th film, which in turn removed an extremely important element of the whole series. They clung onto lazy tropes just and made Voldemort into just another baddie in favour of whoosh whoosh bang bang CGI effects.
The feeling of wonder is my favorite thing in the first two movies, I agree with that entirely.
Eh. Voldy was always a bit of a two-dimensional psychopath, even with his backstory.
@@ohwowitsthatguy9154 True, but removing his backstory made it even worse. At least with his history, we know why he turned out to be such a two-dimensional baddie.

Yeah part of the story is that the parents' generation had kids young because there was a war on
Honestly, as someone who has always had criticism for the movies because of how they had to boil down a lot of the story to fit it to the medium, I start to open up to the idea of a TV series, especially since it has been 20 years since HP made his appearance on the big screen. Visually Daniel Radcliffe and Co. are burned into my mind as the cast, but I think enough time has passed for there to go for a new iteration, that can delve deeper into the story and characters.
Your vid made me excited about this, and I think you pulled up some fantastic ideas!
Ive always felt Stephen Fry should play Dumbledore, I mean he has the voice, the physical presence and even the crooked nose.
Or Nick Frost, either 1 there would always be an 🎬 Actor to portray the Character
Plus he's gay.
NO. NO. NO. TOTALLY THE WRONG CHOICE. AND I AM A FAN OF MR. FRY.
BUT NOT AS DUMBLEDORE.
Adam driver is actually older than snape is in philosopher's stone, he just looks young. He'd be perfect
Nah harry potter is british and we have plenty of excellent actors here that we really don’t need american ones. Harry Potter is so quinitisentially British (in a way that appeals internationally by virtue of its unique, quirky Britishness) that an American actor in a major role would be horribly misplaced.
@@ssh1487 I didn't mean perfect over any actor, I meant, he didn't clash with the role in terms of age, and the video suggests he does
I'm brazillian, so I don't see any difference
@@ssh1487 While with training, Adam could nail it. Though I was thinking apart from Adam... has no one thought of Tom Hiddleston? If he would become even more stoic than he was as Loki.
@@AcePotato_ I would pick Tom for Lucius Malfoy, he has that sneaky face, he can seem cruel and at the same time be an asskissing magot. I would pick Benedict Cumberbutter for Snape. My english is to bad for me to explain why I think so, but just think about the roles he played and the presence he delivers everytime.
Hagrid’s casting 😱 never woulda seen it coming, but that’s perfect
it blew me away. honestly fits perfectly.
I saw it coming straight away as it was also my choice, it would be brilliant
yeah mindblowingly good XD
I love it
I CAN'T stop talking about this : Harry Potter as a series. 1 episode = 1 chapter. Please do all of the books !!!
Delphine Renaud there’s literally no point remaking Philosopher or Chamber, they are almost a beat for beat retelling of the novels. Can’t imagine any changes they could make. Now remaking it as an Anime, that would be gold
Honestly each episode would be like 10 minutes and season 5 would have 37 episodes
Everyone would skip the death day party episode... no one wants to listen to terribly played musical saws, and look at rotting, mouldy cheese, fish or haggis.
Edit: For an ENTIRE episode
It may not be apparent to those outside the UK but Michael Caine doesn’t have the right accent to be Dumbledore. Caine has a very strong cockney accent, Dumbledore’s accent should be more Received Pronunciation (RP); better suited actors that come to mind are Ian McKellen or Patrick Stewart.
I would love for Ian McKellan to play him
As an American I can only detect the really obvious British accents yet I noticed in that Batman scene his accent was rather cockney not as regal sounding as I imagine Dumbledore having. I agree. And as someone else pointed out, he’s 87, he really couldn’t commit to a decade of films. As much as I’d love to see an Ian McKellan or Patrick Stewart, they’d really need someone more in their 50s or 60s with the stamina to do a long running series.
Do you know what acting is?
@@ssssSTopmotion of course but I don’t think you realise that not all actors are good at accents. Samuel L Jackson always sounds like Samuel L Jackson, Michael Caine always sounds like Michael Caine.
Where exactly does it say in the books what Dumbledore’s accent is?
I can really see Nick Frost as Hagrid!
“No luck catching them basilisks then?”
“It’s just the one basilisk, actually.”
Oh my God I just spat 😂😂😂
I love it!!!
😂 😂 😂
This might be my favourite comment ever
Agreed, but he is too young.
Ian McKellen as dumbledore is a massive missed opportunity
Shmuel _06 dumbledores role is too similar to gandalfs. Would be confusing
He was dumbledore , full name gandalf van dumbledore
McKellen is the obvious choice, but he's already said he doesn't want to
ok this is kind of crazy but how about a slightly aged Taika Waititi? He should at least have some hand in production; there is an element of whimsical-ness to the characters he plays that was totally missing in dumbledore from the harry potter movies but one of my favorite bits of the books. After all, if this did hypothetically happen, it probably wouldn't be for another couple of years, at least enough for Waititi to be in his fifties, and he does have a weathered look to him. If not that, then peeves or something; that Korg energy was one of my favorite things about the series, and would be a necessary element to cut up the darker bits of the show
I think I'd prefer James McAvoy as Quirrel. . . .
Yes yes yes
Was thinking of him too. He gave me a similar vibe with Ian Hart (who portrayed the original Quirinus Quirrell).
I literally just commented that 😂
Now I can't unsee it
Omg...why did i instantly picture a turban on him snd went...yup thats Quirrell. XD
To be fair Adam Driver as Snape is kind of brilliant
There's nothing I respect more than an American calling it the philosopher's stone instead of the sorcerer's stone. My friend, you are a gift!
There should be a tv series sticking more true to the books. Books have so much stuff and those were not there in the films. Lot of characters have more stories to say.
They cut a lot of the humor from the books. A tv show could really allow time for that.
Yeah I think it’s a pretty good rule that book SERIES should be adapted into TV SERIES.
I know right? There are a shit ton of people saying that the movies are the best and that you shouldn't touch them while many good scenes were either sped up or skipped altogether. We could have long thirty to forty-minute episodes properly showing off the beginning of each book, especially the beginning of the first one.
I think Stephen Fry would be an amazing Dumbledore. Listening to him read the books, he just captures the gentleness of the character.
And has a crooked nose 😉 I agree with this choice.
Beau DaBull
Sir Ian McKellen would be great too
@@sjc1601 And we've seen him with a gentler/funnier side as Gandolf.
@KR The Luna
Exactly! I have always thought this as I didn’t particularly like Gambons Dumbledore.
Beau DaBull also, he’s gay.
I was scoffing the whole way throught this until Nick Frost as Hagrid. Stopped the video, liked, subscribed.
