I live here in this town and know the owners. After the airport stopped being used, they had planned on possibly a dragstrip for the major players there. However, the township shut that idea down.

I worked in Reed City for a while. Talking to many of the local people there was interesting. From what I learned most of Reed City and the area was older people who did not agree or like progress and wanted to keep the city and area very dormant. I was told that Ferris State University was originally planned to be built there and it was shut down. Other things were Cracker Barrel, Cabellas and Walmart. Living there for me was like stepping back a few decades.

Its a shame how everything fun gets turned down by the older generation here in Reed City! I’m still surprised that they put in the bike track and disc golf course

I remember going past that airport back in the early 80’s before I could drive and being in awe of the different aircraft parked close to the road.
    Sure do miss Nartron Field!

I live 5 miles away from this airport. It is located on the north side of Reed City Michigan. North of US10. Always wondered what it looked like inside of the building. Very interesting. My wife's aunt flew out of here to Chicago and again to Colorado. Thanks for sharing.

Drove past this 100s of times from 1968 up to when it got bypassed when the US131 expressway got extended. Traverse City to Grand Rapids and back was a regular run for many years.

In the late 50's, Reed City had airline service with North Central Airlines flying Convair 580s. I believe Nartron extended the runway to accommodate their BAC 111 jet.

    • @chadportenga7858

I wondered if Narton ever had any commercial service or not. I thought it was a private airport for a rich guy's company.

    • @davef.2329

Good heavens, the people around there must've hated that. BAC-111 was outlandishly noisy.

  • @mikebo3667

In 1979, the facility was purchased by Norman Rautiola, owner of Nartron Corporation. Nartron makes electronics for the automotive industry, and used the airport buildings for its engineering and manufacturing operations, including advanced product development and wire products assembly. These activities were moved to another location in the late 1980s, and the airport ceased operations

I'm going to bet that the "storage" under the stage was for long racks on wheels to hold folding chairs for the guests to sit on. Very similar to how my school auditorium was set up.😊

Remeber driving by once on US131 before the divided highway was but through in 1986. It is still listed as an active airport by the State of Michigan and the FAA. The runway is 4500 feet long and 100 feet wide, with asphalt in poor condition.

Wow, strange that this would pop up in my feed. My grandparents lived less than a mile from there and I used to go fishing in the lake spillway as a kid when we would visit. That was way back in the 70's. I haven't been in that area in decades and was shocked to see what the airport is like now. Sad.

I would never expect to see an event hall with the stage in the small airport building like that. Wonder if it got converted to that use after the airport operations down? I have to think originally somewhere in the main room area is where the ticket counters and doorways out to the gate used to be.

I see you are a relatively new poster. A word of constructive criticism: Do some research before you film places like this. This one in particular has a lot of info out there. It sounds better to give a solid narrative on what you're filming, rather than "I think..." or "I wonder..." about things that are easily researched.
    Good start, though!

I agree with you sir! These people go on TH-cam and want us to subscribe and even spend our money supporting them so they are making more money than we who are real men working on hard jobs, and when ever they get to a point that will explain what the film is about, they always fan away and show other trash. I have stopped donating to any of these sites because they hardly ever finish the project. Just like Bad Chad I started watching him when he was building the Ford Mercury truck and he jumps from one project to another and here on youtube you go on and you can never find the finish of most stories or Projects. They are just suckering us to join and support for Browny Points to show big numbers of people watching and supporting them.
