  • In this episode, I dive into the process of deconstructing from conservative Christian ideologies. Join me as I ask seven essential questions to re-examine your faith and encourage introspection.
Explore the foundations of your beliefs, challenge notions about God's character, and navigate the complexities of morality and intellectual integrity. As we delve into these crucial topics, I aim to promote personal growth, authenticity, and a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
Please keep in mind that all everything I say here is my subjective opinion, and is intended to deconstruct fundamentalist/evangelical/conservative Christian ideologies from an ex christian perspective

Common sense and the question is actually deeper than you pretend. You try to make the false assumption that Christians try to make in their propaganda. Christians start from a positon that your god is real and proven. >>> Wrong..
You sat a baseline where your god is real when is the wrong direction for the discussion. But that is what you choose to hear which is typical denial for Christians.

Well the foundation of the bible is based on supernatural events happening that are claimed to be proof your version of god is real. That of course if false as NONE of the supernatural events claimed as fact in the bible are proven or even likely to be slightly true.
You are using quotes and Church propaganda as proof which is laughable. You can't prove the bible with quoting the bible or what some preacher drills in your brain. You have have not proven any of the supernatural events are real. SO all you say is b/s if not founded by facts.

@@christophergibson7155 "I am a living testimony of what grace has done inmy life born again .. new creaton is christ"
You, as is the rest of the world, are a living testimony of millions of years of evolution and how man's brain has been molded to want leadership from others. Religion helps us live in a community, tribe or village.
You have also fallen deep into the propaganda so badly you fail to see the false claims of your belief.
What the Christian propaganda does well if block you from looking at the reality of your faith. But that is true of all good and popular faiths. You believe supernatural events as true in your faith that you'd never believe in another faith.
But I do understand how easily one can be fooled by religious propaganda and in many cases brainwashing. I was suckered into the faith as a child and remained for many years until I reached a age and place in life to honestly evaluate it as a whole. The falacy of it because clear but still the drilled in propaganda held on even when logic says otherwise. I was "so called saved" as a child but is was no more than a conditions response and child abuse.
Christianity can be child abuse. I would hope you are able at some point to see the truth. But if you can't and live were you are in the darkness - so be it, I just hope you don't ruin the lives of others by leading them into the lie.
You are pretending all you say is proven again. That is smoke and mirrors for Jesus. What you believe is impossible to prove therefore I consider it a lie for jesus.
As for as cleaning you of sin. That is your belief - ok so be it - but that does not make it fact. Every major religion has followers that make similar claims. Your claims have absolutely more chain of being real than the other faiths that claim the same thing, Simply because you go their in your mind as they do in other faiths does not make you are them correct. You are lost in the propaganda and mind games.
When it comes to supernatural events - - I don't have to disprove fables and claimed supernatural events. It is up to the one claiming an uncommon event to prove it is real.

How can we prove all things if we don't ask questions, including questions about God?

After sexual assault from a youth pastor it was time to leave. I really appreciate your courage to make these videos and follow you on TikTok. I’m one year over 49. I still cry in secret, but each day is getting better. Family rejection is another issue. No one tells you freedom comes with a heavy price. Your god basically has you scared you shitless into worshipping him out of fear, yet a god has never revealed themselves to anyone on this planet beyond a reasonable doubt. Some random men claimed that god spoke to them and told them to write this book of fairy tales. Do you have any evidence that a virgin gave birth, man walked on water, raised the dead, fed 5000 people with 7 food items and died and came back to life? Historical accuracy my arse. If you don’t have evidence, then why believe it? Your god apparently is all powerful and created the universe yet needs humans to build him a boat, write a book and spread his word. A very weak and shy god indeed.

@Baker Banking 1. How does petitionary prayer work? An example: Two families start their morning with prayer. They both request traveling mercies for their summer journey to the Poconos. Only one family makes it. Why bother asking for something that won't be "granted"? Why was one family chosen over another? Did they pray more ferverently? Was their faith "greater" than the other family?
      2. God has a plan for every person. God knows us so well he knows the number of hairs on our head. If god knows what will happen to us our entire lives and it is a part of his plan, how do we have free will? He already knows I am going to run that stoplight and kill that family. He already knows I am going to quit my job, have a baby, get a divorce. If his plan is already mapped out, where does my choice fit in?
      3. God takes care of us. If he takes care of the sparrow, how much more valuable to him are his children? He loves us so much that he created us knowing we would "fall", knowing he would commit genocide in the form of a flood and supposedly hit the reset button where incest would be the only way to repopulate the planet. He knew when we were created that he would obligate us to worship him and his son or be damned for all eternity. Wow. That sounds like a father who unconditionally loves his children.
      4. Going back to the sparrow, if god loves and takes care of us, why are tens of millions of people starving to death because they live in areas where food will not grow? Droughts were there is no water? Fires that burn down miles of homes? Is that how god takes care of us? Kids with cancer, miscarriages, abuse. Yeah, I know, free will blah, blah, blah, but as a mother, would you sit there and watch your children be abused?
That should keep you busy for a while. And no, Bible quotes are not a LOGICAL explanation. I am a former pastor's kid, so I know from memory more than most people have forgotten when it comes to scripture. I just don't believe it anymore. I DO believe in a being greater than ourselves. I have seen a lot of spiritual stuff go down (I saw my father's "soul" leave his body when he transitioned, so I am not an atheist.

The two questions that got me over the hump were:
    1. If god is all knowing, all powerful, and all loving why does he not only allow, but command atrocities like slavery, genocide, etc. Not only that, but he never made any attempt to stop or even clarify that he does not align with these things. I.E., American Slavery, the Holocaust, Spanish Inquisition, the Crusades, etc. All of these are things that were done in the name of or justified by god.
    2. How do I know, for certain, that my religion is the correct one? How do I knows it's not Islam, or paganism, or some extinct religion I'll never know about?

Hey Kristi, I’ve been enjoying your videos and relate to many of them. As a 26 years old, raised as a baptist missionary kid in South Africa, and in church every weekend, the usual advice I’ve been given when I come to a point of questioning is to just pray and trust God knows best. What really prompted me to really examine my faith was an ethics class I’m currently taking at Liberty University. I’m asked to defend Christian ethics which is easy for me to do - just regurgitate what I’ve been told and get an A. But the more I look into it, the more I’m convinced Christianity falls short of providing answers. My entire life and community is built around the church and leaving would be difficult. I appreciate how you approach deconstruction using reason and logic, and not just angrily attacking the other side as is often the case. I might need some prayers (LOL) as I continue on this journey.

      do this, do that,
      a rule for this, a rule for that;
a little here, a little there-
so then as they try to move forward, they fall backward and are injured and snared and captured"

"deconstruction" --- this term is an unfortunate substitute for the word apostasy and its use in this context implies a poor comprehension of both classical theology and the philosophy of Jacques Derrida. As a mode of critique, questioning binary hierarchies and exclusive readings would, it seems, be an adjunct to a well-reasoned faith and quite contrary to apostasy. The term deconstruction is, no doubt, readily attractive to psychological pubescence in that it implies a rebellious tearing down and effacement of perceived constraint. This is ironically, the very mindset Derrida sought to counter through his cogent but perhaps misguided work. His original notion of deconstruction was proposed as an unmasking of authoritarian regimes for the purpose of human freedom, not the destruction of reality itself which is by definition a lie and the project of insanity.

I love “Jezebel vibes” idea, and tongue-in-cheek “witnessing” to plain truth and being yourself.
For me the wake up was learning the Hebrew Bible God El had a wife and kids - monotheism only developed way later. I didn’t want to see that evidence, but it shocked me so much it broke the conditioning/ mind stopping techniques.
I’m not publicly“out” yet, but inwardly I’m grateful to who I humorously call Mrs God, aka Ashorah.
But I’m still untangling the years of BS I put up with from church leadership. It seems the one miracle “the Holy Spirit” cannot do is to inwardly change gaslighting narcissists… who just weirdly get naturally attracted to church leadership positions 😂.
So I’m all up for exposing these malignant characters, and helping the kindhearted to wake up. TH-cam channels like yours, Mythvision etc are really helping reach ppl who are often inwardly terrified to just stop and ask genuine questions. Seeing god as he is - the Bronze Age Canaanite storm deity that was constructed to explain where thunder comes from, who had a wife and god kids - helped me big time. The elaborate house of cards built up for centuries on this - which I loved in song and stories - was also an abusive prison in which I kept myself in. Turns out I know where thunder comes from - so Yahweh can now retire from parading the earth (and yes he had physical feet which they audibly heard in Eden … one of the best things in deconstruction is laughing when you see the obvious - god had feet lol)

To be honest, the most influential aspect of my leaving religion was reading the Bible itself. I haven't been religious for a long time. But, only in the past year did I decide to consciously deconstruct. And my deconstruction has been fed by passages in the Bible. Some that I just discovered from your videos. I've also watched many videos on the Atheist Experience and The Line on TH-cam as well as watching live streams on both channels on a regular basis. In their streams, they ask theists to call in and share what they believe and why. Which make for very revealing and interesting conversations.
I am still writing down and storing passages as reference. But, the more I read the Bible, the more I ask myself, "What the heck was I smoking?"
I think your question, "Shouldn't God be more concerned with who you are as a person, and what your intentions are then what you think and believe?", is a fantastic question. One that I think many religious people avoid. Sometimes avoiding consciously out of fear of being judged for doubting God.
RE Question #5. I was raised Catholic. Years later I practiced Buddhism (w/ chanting) for about five years. The main thing that stopped me from practicing Buddhism was a conflict between the American branch of the Buddhist organization and the leaders in Japan that caused a major falling away of many members in my community. I've always respected Buddhism because it doesn't use guilt, shame and fear in their teachings. I was a Mormon for about three months. After that, I haven't really practiced any formal religion since.
RE Question #7. I personally wouldn't care how my community would react. Not if I was serious about being interested in reality and the truth and my own sanity. I've been having email conversations about religion with my mother, who is a very devout Catholic. But, I've realized that she is convinced that she IS right. So, I've decided to not discuss religion with her anymore. It's clear that she isn't even open - or respectful - of my having my own life experiences unless I follow her religious beliefs. I'm fine with her being religious if it makes her happy. But, she doesn't feel the same way about my choices. Like that guy who called you in your tictok video, she hopes that I will "come back" some day. Though, to be honest, I was never fully convinced. The whole "Jesus died for my sins" thing never sat well with me.
I should probably add the fact that I'm not spring chicken. So, my tolerance for judgment from others has dropped a lot.

One lady asked for prayers that "people would stop picking on the president". My question is, where was her indignation when they were showing Obama and his wife as a chimpanzees, or being hung? I have some serious questions about the church now. How can a pastor talk to me about tithing and then ask me if I would like to spend a day at his summer place on lake placid and go out on his boat? If you can't see what's wrong with that, then you need to think about it.

My own awakening was from the Catholic faith. At some point in my teen years, the question that first took me down a deconstruction path was "If God made all of creation, the universe, the stars, this beautiful planet, paradise just for mankind as His "children" to heap praise on Him over, then why do so many people spend most of life pushing so hard for some "final" reward (i.e. heaven)? Wouldn't it be insulting to a creator for his creation, for whom He supposedly loved so much that He literally created all of existence, a paradise on Earth, to spend the precious life they believe God gave them saying "Well, this is nice and all, but I sure hope you have something better for me when I die!" It started me thinking... what if this planet upon which we live, this place, Earth IS the paradise that God supposedly promised?
I am still humored when young recruits (and they always seem to be young recruits who have been groomed to believe they have dues to pay to get into the heavenly father's favor) try to proselytize to me. They seem to approach their mission as if all agnostics/atheists must just not be Christians YET merely because they have not heard of Jesus Christ. It seems to never have even occurred to them to learn that many of us (atheists/agnostics) were raised in the Christian faith.
I have had this statement thrown at me a lot- "..well if you don't believe, aren't you afraid you will not go to Heaven?" To which I reply, if your reason for belief is just because you are afraid of the consequences, that does not sound like a solid basis for that belief.
Your video on Adam and Eve speaks to the question of morality perfectly.... You address how God creates an outside consequence based in fear (immediate death) for an otherwise innocent and naiive Adam if he or Eve partake of the infamous fruit. But unless they break that same rule that they were created specifically by God to NOT understand, they are incapable of even being able to determine right from wrong . That does not sound fair, loving or just to me!
Love the videos and the discussion... keep up the good work!

I believe you have to make an even more important question: does this religion make sense from the perspective of the god? Imagine yourself making an ant farm in a glass box, as some of us made when young. Would you want to enter in a personal relationship with one of the ants? Would you suffer, and get angry because of the actions of one of the ants that is not even the queen? Would you select a few of them so that they become the "chosen ants" and communicate with them exclusively, caring little or nothing about the others? And most importantly, if you could twitch a finger and make all of your ants a million times more intelligent, would you?
Relationships only work when they make sense for both parties. If one of the sides is promised infinite rewards in exchange for things that are free or very inexpensive to the other party, you can be sure that the promises are a scam. If your god will give you infinite life and perfection in exchange for some prayers and occasional goat, your god does not exist, and his emissary is a con artist or a con victim.

I guess most of my deconstruction was actually taking place while I was still a believer. One question that came to my mind often during this time was (as I was reading the Bible, especially the OT) "did an all-powerful creator of the universe think that these stories were the most important for mankind to know?" Or some form of that question. There is a lot of bizarre stuff in the OT, much of which really has little to do with "God" or religion.

Kristi, I'm a Christian and have been a pastor, evangelist and Bible teacher. This is one video in which you and I agree. Man was created with a brain and a spirit. No one can truly tell you what to believe. God did create us with autonomy. 1 John 4:8 is a great verse. The scripture also says perfect love casts out fear. If one is experiencing fear, they haven't truly experienced God. God is not controlling, but churches, pastors and denominations can be. I went to Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY. With your Southern Baptist background, you may be familiar with it. I had hard topics presented to me and I asked hard questions. My result was the total opposite of yours by asking those questions. I came out with even more faith in God, Jesus and the scriptures. Notice, I didn't say more faith in the church. Church is what we choose to be a part of, not where we are to direct our faith. Out of the questions you mentioned, the first one is the place to start and all the other questions stem from that one. The first question you mentioned is "Would a good God punish me for asking the hard questions?" The answer is no, He wouldn't. I think He wants you and I to ask questions. How we arrive at the answers and what is our basis for belief are the most important things. But God will never punish us for asking the hard questions. I think when you came across Calvinism, that really threw you for a loop. Calvinism has done that to many people. Now keep in mind, I'm not an atheist or agnostic. I have full faith in God and His Son Jesus. I firmly hold to scripture. I want to share with those who are viewing your videos and yourself (if you read these comments), that I did and continue to ask the hard questions. When I do, my faith is even stronger.

Anyways, I never really felt his love even when I did go to church when I was a Christian, I would even put my hands up after seeing multiple people around me put theirs up, but I just never felt anything even at church. Christianity is a fluke, actually, scratch that, all religion are flukes. No religion is ever a good religion. I’m ashamed I didn’t deconvert at 18. But since I’m already now as of 30 1/2 years old,(about to be 32 in December) I actually feel more alive than I ever have than I was as a Christian , I stopped fearing hell since I know it’s not real either. But if it ever is then I deserve to go there and not heaven if it also exists. Who says I need to be saved? I never felt saved. I mean sure I didn’t think of it back then, but now I have.
Anyways, sorry for the wall text I just thought I would point out my d conversion .
The one question I asked myself before the converting was, should I just go through with just being an atheist since God is not answering me? I even asked him and got no response. At first when I became an atheist, I was afraid I was going to get smitted so after I turned to atheism, I waited a few minutes, and nothing happened, and here I am today blasphemy God all the way to highhell, #FeelsGoodMan

Yes I have studied all other religions and compared them with Christianity... The one thing all other religions have in common is that you have to have some sort of experience, do good things and in the end "Maybe you were good enough to make it to Heaven. With Christianity it is NOT about what you do or did it's all about what Christ did on the Cross, you need only believe that God is and what He did for you.

So if a murderer beliefs in Christ, then he is saved, but a peaceful man who believes in any other religion but Christianity earns eternal torture?
What kind of unfair judgement is that? Why should anyone want to spend eternity with a bunch of murderers who just used the "get out of jail card"?

9:38 why we believe or disbelieve: my deconstruction started with a question I put to scripture. Why am I having trouble accepting the gospel? I found myself in Romans 9 and thought, “if this is all true, are my challenges with belief because God Himself has hardened my heart against Him?” That gave me all he permission I needed to go forward without fear that I was choosing hell over heaven. I can’t choose to believe this any more than I can fake-it-till-you-make-it with 2+2=5.

Some caution is warranted about rejecting one's own religion only, especially due to some past trauma that one links in their mind only to their religion. We don't want people leaving Christianity for Islam, or any other EQUALLY DUBIOUS or SPURIOUS mythology/religion/spirituality for that matter. It's important that all the same questions or challenges that you put to Christianity are rooted in or common to all supernatural belief, legend, myth, etc. Otherwise, one may be little more than becoming disenchanted or disillusioned with one religion opening one's self to another.

@@samifaris7255 No religious cult, prophet, or leader has ever disputed the idea that humans cannot be "made" to believe or think other than by starting the brain washing very early and strictly controlling their world, only that they CAN be made to DO or be very convincing. For those types who can't be 'converted' in their mind, Islam surely says they SHALL appear to be in every other outward respect. i.e. they WILL prayer to Allah, whether they believe it or not. they WILL comply with the sharia, whether they believe in it or not. they WILL favor the Muslim in any contest or dispute with someone of a different religion. Or else the consequences. This is the definition of compulsion, coercion, "forced".

Ron Reagan ran an ad for atheists and his catch phrase was, 'not afraid to burn in hell.' That would make a great t-shirt or hat!

we are groomed at a very young age when we are still impressionable to suspend logic and common sense and this gets imprinted into our brains so even though most organized religions, at their core are totally illogical, we hang onto those childhood acquired tales that can only be accepted if we suspend belief in logic and taught not to question things...

My deconstruction was more a demolition. When my humanity was reduced to a mere pathetic existence, they actually confirmed the deconstruction I had already begun.
The church that completed my demolition has a TH-cam channel. I called them out... They never replied.
