Am I the only one who wasn’t bothered by Dave being a judge? I always saw him as the voice of the customer. Plus, he’s just a badass dude. Like why wouldn’t you want him to be apart of anything?

Also. I heard through that Ink Master was cancelled...? I hope this isnt true.

I’m really glad that they addressed why Dave is a judge. I know he gets a lot of hate for it, which he doesn’t deserve because Oliver is absolutely right: most of the tattoo community is the clients and not the artists, so it makes perfect sense to have a “client” as one of the judges.

It's also good that sometimes Dave asks Oliver and Chris things like "I actually liked this, what's wrong with it?" and then they explain what's technically wrong with it, which helps to educate the audience.

And i like the fact that dave says "I like this tattoo" whats wrong with it? because there is several tattoos that look badass, and then they make you look closer and ohhhh. I see.

I think it's really important to promote empathy and sympathy towards others within the tattoo community (which is known to be 'macho' and 'tough').
Deciding to get better, to recover, to share your troubles, to talk about your mental health... These are all positive actions.
Suffering by yourself isn't 'cool' or 'being tough.'
You don't have to be alone.
    You are not alone.
Always feel free to ask for help. There are others who are going through the same thing, there are others who want to help.
    Take care!

Amen Dave. I've lived most of my life with depression(on and off) caused by disabilities/disorders, loved ones dying, and being on so much medication. My depression is one of my reasons I love getting tattooed, it helps me like acupuncture and it also helps me view myself in a better way! I agree that it does need more attention(especially with children). Yeah, depression is depression. I once almost hit rock bottom with my depression and that was the most darkest days of my life(I even had severe suicidal thoughts as a kid). One of my tattoos is actually based off my depression., it's my music speaks tattoo. It reminds me of how music saved me from my suicidal thoughts and reminds me that i'm strong.

Does a tattoo client appreciate their ink, their experience and their “presence” with what they wear?
If so, GREAT!! As it’s really not about whether anyone else likes what another person likes.
That was the appeal of tattoos, piercing, clothing options, hair styles, makeup and such at one time.
Now that tattoos are mainstream, we “need” someone to tell us if it’s good??
First tattooed in 1978; bodysuit by 1986; multiple trophies, et cetera ad nauseum… What actually matters is whether I like what I wear!
That’s the case for us all.
Dave makes very good points in this episode; being vulnerable and solid at the same time!! Thanks Dave!

Thank you Thank you for bringing awareness to the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide. I am not only a fan of your music Dave, have about 13 tattoos, a huge fan of the show, I am also a combat Veteran. I went through some really hard times when I got hurt and my military career ended. It was hard burying friends and soldiers who died when deployed, however, I have lost more friends since returning home. 22 Veterans commit suicide a day, that's one every 65 minutes. Many of us are dealing with PTSD, depression and substance abuse (through self medicating). You both have a platform that is loved by many Veterans, I am happy that you put yourselves out there and made this video.

I went out with Dave in 1995 just a couple of times. Jane's Addiction were just getting started but getting popular (Esp @ Club Scream in L.A.) He was the absolutely nicest guy I ever met. He's honestly the coolest, charming guy to Everyone he meets. He liked me because "I didn't like his band". I treasure those moments. I knew if I saw him more I'd get my heart broken so I never answered or returned his calls while on tour w/The Cult. Girls lined up to give him roses & just to say HI. I walked up to him & said "Why don't you just bend over so they can kiss your....." & he was appalled how rude that was. See - he's so nice!

U know depress heads like myself don’t commit suicide to kill themselves they just want a way for the emotional pain to stop when no other way is working for them. If we could make the pain stop without taking our lives then I think 99.9% would take that other option. It’s not that we want to die we just want all the hurt to stop.

But you gotta remember we are people! You wouldn't value your loved ones by their functionality!! You matter and people do think of you, and being in people's minds is valuable enough. If you are "a bother" to other people that means they love you and they would be very hurt without you.
      Stay strong everyone.

Having depression, anxiety, panic attacks and PTSD myself. I have been told on several times to get over it , or you have nothing to be depressed about . And that makes you shut down and not tell anyone anything, especially your loved ones. Because you don’t want their sympathy, and sometimes your told your just looking for it. Because you don’t know why your depressed , and nothing helps. So you keep it to yourself and put on a face that’s all is okay. And pretend that nothing is wrong but you feel dead inside. My way of escaping is being tattooed, I now have a large portion of my body tattooed , music is another way I get through this.

I started doing some pour paintings.. and that is amazingly beautiful art. If it doesn’t work out, it’s mostly Floetral so scrape it off & go again.
You should grab a handful of colors and a quart of Floetrol.. watch some videos and go for it.
I did acrylic pours for a long time - but now I’m doing Resin arts and it’s all so fun and absorbing too. The thing about it is I don’t have to know how to draw or meticulously paint anything.. but it is an art form once you figure it out. The cool thing is when ya get in the zone you can’t think of anything else. And then when you’re not doing it, it’s what you’re thinking about doing.
Highly addictive art- Faye get ya some. Go watch Gina DeLuca here on TH-cam.. go back to her earlier videos .. it doesn’t take much to get going!! Biggie Hugs 🤗

I've always loved Dave's work from the time I was a kid in the 90's(10 year old me 1st heard him when Jagged Little Pill dropped and I read the liner notes) and I've always loved traditional tattoos so I learned who Oliver was a long time ago just reading my older sister's tattoo magazines. Man... I can't even explain what this video just did to me. My story is a long LONG one for what feels like the very quick 31 years I've been in this place. but I'll sum up what I can in as little words as I can.
My Dad used to take me to my uncles house where there would be week to month long parties with intermissions where the local "scratcher" would bust out his equipment and sling some ink. I remember at 15 years old begging my dad (who was covered in tattoos) if I could get a tattoo from this guy, but my dad wasn't having it. So instead Steve (the scratcher) taught my cousin and I how to make our own stencils using a bic pen, tracing paper and pit stick lol. Well, ever since that day I have longed to be a tattoo artist. My dad hung himself in 2009, I had just turned 20. A year before that, one of my Best friends at the time, his Dad over-dosed. So we were two very angry very lost kids... he moved away to live with his other family, I stayed where I was and went off the deep end. Drugs, booze, bad decisions... taking life for granted. In 2017 I pretty much hit rock bottom, tried to kill myself twice at 29 years old. Someone from my grandfathers reservation (I am 1/4 mohawk first nation), reached out to me and invited me to take part in Sun dance ceremony. Fasting and piercing our bodies as a sacrifice for our prayers. I pierced my back and walked with the buffalo (dragged buffalo skulls by my back). Since that Ceremony, I have been 100% sober. It's been 2 and a half years with 0 substances. Depression is still just as real as it has ever been, but... I face it instead of drowning or numbing it out. I'm 31 now and needless to say I don't remember my 20's and half of my teenage years... at all. All I have from my 20's is some long term injuries, heartache, hard life lessons, a sketchbook with some drawings in it, a few tattoos I did on myself, and an all black Epiphone acoustic Guitar that I have sitting beside me right now, and love playing on a daily basis when I take a break from drawing. I Still have not been blessed with the opportunity to prove that I am capable and determined to complete an apprenticeship, but I pray someday it happens. I just keep drawing, building my abilities, honing my skills with a pencil and paper, and am very hopeful for the future. I have to tell you man... after watching this video, choking up periodically throughout, then at the end when Dave pulled out that Black Epiphone, and they sang the needle and the damage done... for real, no joke, I cried like a bitch... (Neil young was one of my Dads favorites and a staple artist on every single music player I've ever owned). Then I came on here and wrote this short novel lol. You guys are awesome man... can only dream to one day have the opportunity to meet you or even better, tattoo for you. Peace.
