I hope you enjoyed today's video! Check out my first book, Lessons from Madame Chic, for more decluttering and style inspiration amzn.to/3BM1yEP I would love to hear about your experience with the 5 categories discussed in the video. Let us know your story in the comments. Thank you for watching! Love, Jennifer
When I was in my early twenties I had a friend who wore a very worn shoes. I never would have thought of doing this, but another friend of mine bought her a similar replacement pair without ever saying anything about her old shoes. I thought that was the chicest and most elegant and high class thing to do ever. It definitely taught me a lesson. Such a classy friend!
I had a friend in the ‘80’s who LOVED shopping for (and buying) nice handbags! What was odd was that she wore one pair of beat up Birkenstocks with unmanicured (but clean) feet. I was never a judgy person, but I did notice! I came from the matchy matchy generation where you had to match your purse and shoes!
Thank you for mentioning thrift stores, some of us have limited budgets, especially the ones of us that are retired. I like to make a game/challenge out of thrift store shopping for clothing, purses, seasonal decor, jigsaw puzzles, greeting cards and stationery. Thanks for being an encourager.
Once I heard "Respect your money". We all work hard to earn it. For me, respecting money means that I buy a high quality handbag or shoes because I respect my money - I don't spend it on cheap shoes which hurt my feet or will be worn out soon. I don't spend my money on bad food, I spend it on good food that really feeds my body. Having a good looking wallet is also a way of showing your money that you respect it. And decluttering, in general, is a way of respect that we show to ourselves.
This could be a really funny request, but I would to see you doing an “elegant thrifting” episode. 🙂 There is obviously no obligation to buy anything (but if you do, that’s awesome too!), but I would love to see you visit a few thrift/secondhand/consignment stores and pull some examples of elegant pieces. 🙂
❤such good tips! As a young child my parents taught me to shine and polish my shoes. My father did this with his office shoes every few months. So I learned to clean and shine good quality leather shoes and preserve their color, it’s a lost art! It used to be a common practice.
Definitely a pert 2. Jewelry is a good one to declutter often as well. I'm was feeling pretty virtuous as I've recently gone through my clothing, sleepwear, loungewear, and shoes to curate a capsule wardrobe. My handbags and wallet are always on declutter. But those undergarments, socks, tights, yeah, I need to get after them. Thanks for the reminder!
Yes, please to a part two! Just last evening my sister and I were discussing the shoe issue specifically. It’s so funny that was on your list this morning. She has thrown out two pair of her favorite shoes in the last two weeks as they were past their prime. It is tough mentally sometimes to do this, so I really appreciate your encouragement! If you plan to move on to other rooms in the house, I think one thing people should release is cookware with Teflon that is clearly chipped. Just my suggestion… See you next time! 💕
I cannot get rid of shoes until they're physically unwearable 😅 although I use discretion when/wear in wearing them. I have a lovely pair of metallic flats that I cannot part with yet
Just yesterday my beloved pair of raffia sandals that I purchased this spring broke. I wore them nearly every day here in NC for about 5 months. I only spent $10 on them, they looked incredibly chic and I definitely got my wear out of them!
I recently found you here on YT and I came here to say: You calm me down. This is exactly what I need now. To slow down to focus, appreciate and plan. The image of you sitting at a table with a beautiful cup of tea and a planner knocked me out. Yes to a calm and beautiful atmosphere! Thank you!!!
Jennifer, thank you! I needed this video today. Your dress looks amazing on you. Fall is such a great time to let go of shoes, handbags, and clothing that is worn out. Yes, please do a part 2. Have a blessed week.
Thank you for these reminders! It is definitely time to upgrade my standards, new wallet, purse and shoes. Letting go of my shabby sweaters to make space for new ones!
There are 4 local thrift stores in my neighborhood. I know all the thrifting tricks and even still, it is very hard to find a quality piece second hand. Most of the stuff there is damaged and peoples discards. I always buy new now. I like Uniqlo and Northern Reflections for quality fabrics and classic staples.
I really need shoes, but on the sites you recommended, "walking shoes" were almost 1 % of their products. I company brought up flat sandals for that search. I walk ALOT, so that's what I definitely need.
It was this morning, a friend of mine mentioned that she was reading "Polish Your Poise" as she was having her coffee. When she got a notification that The Daily Connoisseur had a new video, she politely informed me that she would have to get back to me later today. We were chatting by telephone...I think the timing of it was good🤗. The content of this video is Very Well Presented. And I would like to see a Part 2. Thank you for sharing with us, Jennifer.
These are great reminders, I was just planning on updating some of my undergarments. This community is so great with discussing some of the more intimate topics and offering advice, I have gotten many recommendations over the years and appreciate all the ladies here! Jennifer that color looks wonderful on you! Thank you Jennifer ❤
Another wonderful video, I recently declutterred my wardrobe because I had items I have had for years and it was time for them to go. Thank you sharing 🙂
I LOVE shoes but don't own many pairs at any one time. I am currently on the hunt for a perfect ballet flat for autumn, and will be getting rid of my beloved but worn out pair I wore the last several years. Thanks for the reminder on handbags- mine definitely needs a new strap!
Thank you, Jennifer, for your sharing! These tips are incredibly useful for us. With the gift-giving season approaching, it’s the perfect time to make our homes look more elegant and organized.😆
I was just telling my husband that I need to dispose of an old nightshirt- it is thread bare and stretched out an extra two sizes!! I found some pre-loved Lands End nightshirts on Poshmark instead. However I do love a really worn looking leather purse! Something that looks like it has been on an archeological adventure. For this reason I love my collection of rugged leather Fossil crossbody purses.
In terms of color, the fake *luxrul* here looks more colorful, clear and clean!! Anyway, I can't tell the difference, maybe I'm too stupid and will never buy it! Haha
What you said is what we already know and should always be doing. The reminder about dressing frumpy does apply to me as late. My mind drifted for a bit, I guess. This must have come to me at the exact right time for me to hear your message. I have been inspired to pick out, iron and hang on accessorized hangers, pretty, stylish, timeless outfits for the entire upcoming week. I am vowing not to reach for the leggings for a full week, except for when wearing for the early a.m. workout. I have plenty barely worn Anthropology, J. Crew, Boden USA, Madewell, Farm Rio, Banana Republic attire, but needed this kick in the butt. I have a ton of Madewell leather purses, backpacks, belts that are respectable quality without breaking the bank. Though I don't rock with the super high end labels, I do have lots of quality diamonds and gold to bring the looks home. I can and will do better effective immediately.
This was a great post! I care about being mindful of our consumer culture here in the States, and I love our planet. Thanks for reminding us of the beneficial power of decluttering and suggesting thoughtful ways to do so such as to recycle, donate, or repair. :)
Thank you for such a wonderful video. Listening to this while doing a slow switch over/ keep /discard/donate of seasonal clothing . I agree with all your points in this video. I was able to purchase a beautiful leather coach purse from a consignment store. Luckily it was in immaculate condition. I make it a point to buy a purse liner, which not only keeps my items organized, but also protects the inside of the purse in case anything spills whether it be pen/make up, also it makes switching over to a different purse so much easier because I just take out the insert and transfer it into the next purse. I have also used a camp/weatherproofing spray not only on my purses , but also shoes, windbreakers/all weather coat plus varying fabrics for every season whether it be summer , autumn or winter. Spills- water damage can happen at any time of the year such as barbecue, at a bar, rain or snow. It helps keep your feet dry and also helps reduces stains on the surface of your items. please make sure to spot test before application if you’re not sure call the number on back of can of spray or stop in at a shoe repair place and ask if they can provide further information in weatherproofing.Hope this helps someone out there. Have a wonderful rest of your day.
Women’s shoes, and sometimes handbags and small leather goods, can easily be polished and weather treated. Saphir makes excellent products. Fiebing’s makes excellent dyes. Tarago is another brand that makes excellent shoe and handbag care products. Good quality shoes can usually be repaired by a capable cobbler.
It’s important to find a good shoe repair shop, dry cleaner and Taylor. Also to read carefully the instructions on clothing labels and hang clothing on appropriate hangers. I I hope you make a video of proper clothing storage.😊
I love Thredup for online thrifting. I find it easier to navigate than Poshmark, and their filters are great for narrowing down to the specific pieces I’m searching for… brands, colors, sizes, styles, condition etc. As someone who doesn’t have the patience to sift through the racks at brick and mortar thrift stores, this really suits me. And they are always having great sales!
Love your content Jennifer! I often shop at thrift stores but look at the section that has new or name brand clothing for so much less than in a retail store. I just love when I get a compliment and I know that I bought it at a thrift store 🙂. I also wanted to ask you about possibly doing a video on looking chic while traveling. My husband and I are preparing for a trip to Greece in a few weeks and I have been racking my brain over how to have comfortable walking shoes (that aren't my gym sneakers) and look put together at the same time. Would love any suggestions or references to previous videos. Also, if anyone else has any suggestions I would appreciate them as well! I am specifically looking for stylish sneakers or sandals that I can walk miles in and over rugged terrain. I am also curious about suggestions for bags or backpacks to carry that are not shoulder bags for all day sightseeing. Thank you!
Vacationed in Greece many years ago.The temperature will remain hot throughout Sept.Reccomend bringing cotton and linen clothing Avoid shorts in Athens and larger cities Cross body handbag with zip closure would be ideal.Hands free for photos.Clarks brand has great sandals that are refined yet durable-pick a neutral color it will match your outfits.Avoid white shoes-they will get dirty very fast. Most of all, smile and enjoy yourself.Greek people are very friendly, kind and love to feed people.
My white tee shirts. Go from new to dog walking to garden work to house work to painting the house to toss away. Sane with some trousers and shoes. I have bo s for these separate activities. Obsessive!
Just to point out that some damaged shoes and bags might be fixed by taking them to the cobbler! It’s worth trying especially if they are good quality ones. You might just need a new sole/cleaning/polishing.
Undergarment declutter, yes, great idea. Not sure if anyone else does this, but I wash clothes daily and tend to just keep rewearing the same undergarments over and over. Anyone else start planning outfits from the shoes up? Shoes come first...then I match things to shoes.
Oh no! I use my father’s old leather wallet and I’m wearing my mom’s old “shammy” autumn 🍂 shirt with a few holes…but it just makes me so grateful to have been loved by them (RIP) and to have been passed down these memories. Thank you for this moment of reflection. sometimes love trumps chic 🎉 😊 ❤
Thanks for this reminder about decluttering. I just decluttered all my nightwear and clothing last week and it feels really good When you talked about decluttering your handbag, i thought it would be fun to see you do a “What’s in my handbag?” video sometime.
You mention in the video you plan to fix your old Louis Vuitton. I also have an old Louis Vuitton purse that needs a lot of work. It’s vintage from the 1980s, and I would like to have it restored and actually wear it. Do you have a recommendation for sending it in to get fixed? Is it though the actual designer or have you used a leather smith in the past that you can reccomend. I live in northern Nevada for reference! Thanks JLS
I still wear cloths that I bought from 10+ years ago but I hardly wear them as I live my life in scrubs due to my work so, there’s that 😂 …I could throw out a few undies; totally guilty haha
Where can one recycle old purses? That are no longer functioning? FYI-You can donate old shoes to DSW in return for points. I believe they've also started repairing shoes, though i have never actually tried the service myself
Do you plan on continuing to wear hair accessories like headbands and bows this year? I didn't see any in your fall fashion video. I just turned 45 and was wondering if I was too old for bows.
Wear them…you’re never too old and when you’re 80 you will realize how young you were at 45! Some bows are quite classy and beautiful so won’t go out of style.
I don’t know what to do with clothing that has numbers of sports teams (like from kids sports) for example. Even the sports backpacks that they make us buy with their team number and logo. It’s hard to throw that out and it just piles up!
My sister in incredibly chic and lovely recently at lunch I saw her wallet. 😂 see Seinfeld George wallet episode 😂 I know what she’s getting from me first her next birthday
I keep worn out handbags "just in case" I need to carry one on stage in a character role (the audience can't see how worn out they are). My foot size has increased over the years, so I donated those shoes. Question: I have old medical xrays/reports - how long should I keep them? The Dr.'s office says 10 years -- but I think that's excessive. What's your take?
Do you dry clean your clothes? I ordered some of your Rungolee recommendations and they were dry clean only. It can get so expensive. Hard to find really nice daily wear that one can wash. Thank you for your terrific videos.
So I am a senior citizen who has amassed a fab collection clothes. I grew up in Paris with an Italian mother. People are standing in line waiting for me to down size. I iwn alot of Dior, Chanel, Berkin bags galore...they can wait a little longer... Buy quality only
Shoes required very good maintenance. They need to be waxed and polished and also sent to the cobbler. Taking care of shoes ensure that they last much longer. As it is, a good quality pair of shoes nowadays are so expensive. Thank you for a great post.
I sell a lot of my items FBMP & purchase gently used goods there as well. I always say there's someone who wants what you have. Why only buy new when you can buy gently used?
You look so beautiful in that color! I agree with keeping your shoes nice. When mine get worn, i take them to the cobbler and i polish them regularly. I started this many years ago when i was on jury duty and we were sitting waiting to go in. The man across from me was wearing a beautifully tailored suit, very well groomed, but scuffed shoes😮🤯 i went home that day and evaluated all my shoes❤ xoxo Stacie

Absolutely! I donate a lot to the thrift store and they are all great finds.
The last handbag I purchased was from the thrift store and it still had the original tag on it!
@@sarahmaples2879 how fun! I love finding treasures like that!

I cannot get rid of shoes until they're physically unwearable 😅 although I use discretion when/wear in wearing them. I have a lovely pair of metallic flats that I cannot part with yet
Great tips! I have found beautiful and barely used handbags and wallets on Poshmark. I love thrifting, but finding the true treasures:)
Thank you for the excellent idea to look on Poshmark. ❤
Just yesterday my beloved pair of raffia sandals that I purchased this spring broke. I wore them nearly every day here in NC for about 5 months. I only spent $10 on them, they looked incredibly chic and I definitely got my wear out of them!
That's the best kind of shoes. ❤ I always mourn the loss of shoes when they break and no longer wearable 😅
Yes part 2 please! Jennifer what a gracious, inspiring and encouraging post about being chic and elegant no matter the budget one has to work with. ❤

Love it!
Jennifer, thank you! I needed this video today.
Your dress looks amazing on you.
Fall is such a great time to let go of shoes, handbags, and clothing that is worn out.
Yes, please do a part 2.

Thank you, Luba! Have a wonderful week!
Yes part 2 please!
P.s. I enjoyed your essay in the fall issue of Victoria magazine. I’d never read Victoria before, it was beautiful! 🤎 🍁 🍂
Thank you for these reminders! It is definitely time to upgrade my standards, new wallet, purse and shoes. Letting go of my shabby sweaters to make space for new ones!
Love this video Jennifer! YES for Part 2!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
I loved it as well. Very approachable way to begin decluttering. Ty Jennifer
Louis Vuitton has an after care program and they will restore the bag. Highly recommend this!

Same. Most clothing is just not made to last anymore, so it is harder to find quality items at the thrift store!
I suggest going to the "rich" part of town
I really need shoes, but on the sites you recommended, "walking shoes" were almost 1 % of their products. I company brought up flat sandals for that search. I walk ALOT, so that's what I definitely need.

Kinda rude, no offense, but definitely understandable!😅
Yes what good idea,s for declutterring. About to attack the undergarments tomorrow 😊
Please for a part two 🎉
Perfect timing! I need a nudge in a number of those categories.
Going to throw out the old PJ shirt and pants that I've had for a decade now. I've loved them, but they have served their purpose in my life!

Love a fall wardrobe edit! 💗
And that pillow with the pink flowers & fringe is gorgeous.
Would love a part two video.

Jennifer, I could have given you all the B roll footage for: worn out wallet, dirty handbag, worn out sandals 😂
I needed the b-roll! We had to use stock footage haha
@jaimemercer Same! 😅
Fr! Funny comment 😅
Hello :) I absolutely love your calm way of talking. You have a charming aura!
I loved the video. It is always great to be reminded of things we put off doing! I would love a part two!
*feels called out bc current fall handbag has had a broken zipper for 3 years which keeps it wide open but still uses it every Fall 😂
😂
I feel like that's ok, as long as things aren't falling out! Also ask around at a show store to know if they fix zippers
Yes Part 2 plse. ❤
Thanks for the great video. Would love a part two, please.
So glad I’m on an algorithm that is recommending this lovely channel to me!

Hi Jennifer, could you please share the shop you are showing at 3:14. Loved that pink stripe dress that you are wearing.
Jennifer, "yes" to part 2
Went to closet and found a purse that no longer served me. xooxo thank you for the great reminder.

Ross always offers New , Name Brand Items for a Fraction of the Cost. TJ Maxx as Well!
But, never in petite sizes.
Sometimes, the thrift store is more expensive than if you just wait for something to go on sale.
Yea. Clearance ftw
Great tips for the seasonal shift!
Clicked on the video right away! Love these 💜💕

I do this. They not only fix shoes, but purses, belts, etc. It is very reasonable too.
I did this for some Ferragamo heels and they were like new!
Undergarment declutter, yes, great idea. Not sure if anyone else does this, but I wash clothes daily and tend to just keep rewearing the same undergarments over and over.
Anyone else start planning outfits from the shoes up? Shoes come first...then I match things to shoes.
Anyone with a suggestion for donating wedding gown in excellent condition although dated. Thanks
Haha love the black and white B roll of you in old worn sleepwear/loungewear!

Is it though the actual designer or have you used a leather smith in the past that you can reccomend. I live in northern Nevada for reference! Thanks JLS
I would contact LV first to see what they charge in order to compare
I still wear cloths that I bought from 10+ years ago but I hardly wear them as I live my life in scrubs due to my work so, there’s that 😂 …I could throw out a few undies; totally guilty haha
Where can one recycle old purses? That are no longer functioning?
FYI-You can donate old shoes to DSW in return for points. I believe they've also started repairing shoes, though i have never actually tried the service myself
thank again
HI 👋 THANK YOU FOR SHARING 💐😉
Do you plan on continuing to wear hair accessories like headbands and bows this year? I didn't see any in your fall fashion video. I just turned 45 and was wondering if I was too old for bows.
Who cares if you’re 45 or 5! If you love the look, and it’s apart of your true style, wear them!
Wear them…you’re never too old and when you’re 80 you will realize how young you were at 45! Some bows are quite classy and beautiful so won’t go out of style.
I love wearing bows still. Headbands tend to give me a headache so I don't wear those as much...
I love seeing bows on anyone regardless of age
I don’t know what to do with clothing that has numbers of sports teams (like from kids sports) for example. Even the sports backpacks that they make us buy with their team number and logo. It’s hard to throw that out and it just piles up!
Take them to the goodwill in the nearest large city. Some kids would love to have something like that.
Ask them if they want it
My sister in incredibly chic and lovely recently at lunch I saw her wallet.
I was my Rungolee dresses on delicate and hang dry. ♥️
@@TheDailyConnoisseur That’s great to know. Thank you for your response.

What do you clean your leather wallets, bags, and shoes with please?
My puppy eat the edge of my wallet a few days ago. So yes an update is necessary.
I sell a lot of my items FBMP & purchase gently used goods there as well. I always say there's someone who wants what you have. Why only buy new when you can buy gently used?
Fb marketplace has the flakiest buyers, Ngl. I have one thing left to sell though!
Hahaha, I know! I'd say most of them are flaky, but I often get great people who are genuine, honest and follow through.
I get rid of old stuff all year round, not just once a year.
That reminds me, I desperately need a new wallet. My zipper is shot. Ordering today. Thanks!
You look so beautiful in that color!
I agree with keeping your shoes nice. When mine get worn, i take them to the cobbler and i polish them regularly. I started this many years ago when i was on jury duty and we were sitting waiting to go in. The man across from me was wearing a beautifully tailored suit, very well groomed, but scuffed shoes😮🤯 i went home that day and evaluated all my shoes❤
