Just finished the series tonight. Easily one of my favorite shows ever. Haunting and moving. Both performances and the writing are incredible. It's so rich it's hard to believe it's only 8 hours. When they say this is a golden age of tv, this is a prime example. I'll remember this one for a long time.
Rain doesnt often show up on camera all to well, unless its absolutely pouring. Hence why they use shower rigs for rainy scenes in movies, probably wouldn't be hard to edit it out
I've watched season 1 more than a hundred times, and it gets better each time. It's my go-to show for everything. I compare other shows to it and nothing lives up to season 1. Episode 1 Season 1 is the by far greatest episode in television history, and I'm a huge Breaking Bad fan. Breaking Bad is amazing, but True Detective tackles taboos that society just hasn't learned to embrace as of yet. True Detective mirrors societies dark side, and understand our darkside, we must embrace it as our own. Bring back Rust! #Powerful
I got that. I have seen this show 1 time. I definetely will watch this later again. But the next time I will watch this in English 'cause now my English is quite bad. But it is so great series. It reminds me of breaking bad. This two shows are really good.
Go -to show is right. I watch it over the course of a week almost every week. My husband too. Probably seen almost a hundred times so far and will continue. By now I can say Rust and Marty are a couple of people I know and listening to them talk is amusing.
True Detective season 1 is definitely in my top 5 Greatest TV Shows. It almost wasn't fair of them to make a Season 2. No way it could've followed the act of Season 1.
One of the best shows ever made. I was so riveted by these characters and this story. I felt like I knew them, and they were real. Never watched anything like it before. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and enjoy 👌
i was living in Houston when Rita was on her way and so many people freaked out because of what happened with Katrina and they got on 45 heading north and what a mess it became people panicked it showed me how it doesnt take much for society to break down , im glad i stayed in my apt through it all and the electricity didnt even go out
Every person having a role in the creation of the authors vision was operating at near peak levels of performance for their rolls, makes True Detective Season 1 not only a Film (last ever studio production made shot on 35mm film)[the film quality is steeps through to the TV screen] All make it a delicious collection of Film & Television history. It is essentially a series of 8 short films each as wonderfully expressed to tell an epic age old Story. It is simply great :)
This is the best television ever made. There is truth in this plot as well. All the way at the end only Errol Childress took the fall…..followed by a denial of his roots that were connected to the governor, who’s family had been doing this a LONG TIME. It reminds me of the Dutroux affair. The monster of Belgium and how high the corruption went.
Yes, masterpiece of a tv series. Touches on man's ego and it's constant need of attachments to suit up to their realties. Which involve again the constant power struggle between men, especially over having control over other people in their lives and their status in society. Then vs the nihilistic/pessimistic philosophy approach to life, with the ever growing occult themes of the supernatural that take things further, touching again on the unknown and frighting, displaying what people in power really get up to in those higher institutions behind the curtains, revealing the evil that we see today in the church and so forth, with the writing, acting, gritty feel to outback America with excellent shots that bring everything together, so beautiful.
Keep up with the 35mm! Students out there, you see what real film gets you? Use 16mm or 35mm and your project will look better and more professional than digital could ever get you.
+BunnyMan456 Eh. Throw some subtle film grain and a film stock emulator with FilmConvert Pro and no one will be able to tell the difference. Heck, you could film with an iPhone these days and no one can tell the difference!
Now yer talkin'! But seriously, I know True Detective is a television show, but why bother filming with 35mm if the aspect ratio would be 16:9. I would've LOVED a widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1!
+Mark Valdez Aspect ratio doesn't affect the color or detail, it's just a matter of what kind of story you're telling. This is a show with a lot of two character scenes, and 16:9 is a good intimate frame for two characters to occupy. Some stories work best in 1:33.
lol Of course you can tell. I've yet to see anything digitally shot that comes close to the effect you get with real film. The digitally shot ones with the filters slapped over them just look like that: digitally shot with filters slapped on. While watching this series I was in awe at the beauty of the cinematography and kept thinking, wow, they finally figured out how to make digital material look like real film. Didn't cross my mind it was shot on real film because I thought it would have been too expensive and time consuming. Well, now I know why it looked like it was shot on real film. XD
Joji Fukunaga needs to pick and choose a gift. You cannot be handsome and gifted in directing at the same damn time. Uugghh! Loved this series to bits they should have kept the two characters all through to sn 3.
An often overlooked part of True Detective is how well the makeup is for Young and Older versions of Rust & Marty. Also why are the voices so high pitched here ?
In eternety where there is no time, nothing can grow, nothing can become, nothing changes, so death created time to grow the things that it would kill. And you are reborn, but into the same life that you always been born into. And you can't remember.
Omg. I have never been so disappointed in my entire life. My soul is actually crushed right now. "550 pages total, written in about 3 months." Are you kidding me? If I bust my ass for 16 hours, I might get TWO pages I'm actually content with. I always knew life was unfair, but the levels of disparity are just absurd.
It's just the motivation of a good project man no worries! I'm that same way, slow with my writing that you described, however if I was busting my ass for HBO, thats when I would hope all of that potential would surface, in a make it or break it situation with expectations and a tight deadline, not just free writing for yourself. Just stay writing and putting more ideas in your creative bank, then you can pull from all of those hard creative hours when you really hit the next level and need to work faster and tighter.
One of the best things on TV ever. Season 2 was so disappointing. Incredible acting, the casting is ridiculously on point. McConaughey, holy sheeeeit. Cohle and Hart are the best, worst duo since Chrissy & Paulie haha
I'm hesitant whether to watch or not. My brother has told me about this show, especially season 1 as one of the best pieces made for television and cinematography in general.
All seasons are really good especially the first. 2 and 3 suffer from the fact that season 1 was so good and all the fanboys are obsessed with it but it’s got great acting. I recommend if you haven’t watched it yet
Very cool series (and I'm not watching pretty much anything these days), I learned about it from Laird Barron interview, cuz it relates to Yellow King and the cosmic horror lit. Although very often I found Mathew's mumbling quite unintelligible, almost like Ozzy.
I was the same, no TV for years. Just happened to find the DVD set at Walmart and it looked interesting. Holy moly. I've watched it maybe 50 times now.
I'm here because time is a flat circle.
Lol and we are back here again and again and again.

i have nothing to add
I agree !!!👏👏👏
Yeah exactly , top scenario with top acting
How many times did you re-watch it? :D
Funny that they mention how much it rained during filming of the series. I can't think of a scene in the entire series where it was raining.
Rain is kinda corny and overplayed, I bet that's why they didn't utilize it. Also rain is cool, this shot was hot and humid.
Rain doesnt often show up on camera all to well, unless its absolutely pouring. Hence why they use shower rigs for rainy scenes in movies, probably wouldn't be hard to edit it out
i love how matthew is still in character while speaking in these behind the scenes bits
omg they all are
“It really turns me on” I was like damn okay bro lmao
"Man, i never drop character until i done the dvd commentary"
@@NickTovA 10/10 Tropic Thunder reference
Literally one of the best TV shows ever made. And also just feels like one long movie in a way.
Really like his directing style, feels raw and polished at the same time
This is why the first season of TD is one of the best things ever made.
True Detective s1 and Chernobyl is by far the best pieces of television ever
Vikas, you truly are a wise person.
The Sopranos is also up there
Don’t forget Vikings: Kingdom of Valhalla Part 53.
Watching this really shows how much work was put into the show. You can tell no one decided to act lazy or spare an expense on anything
Vision and ambition baby. Makes you feel pregnant, in a good way of course haha 😂😳😓
Really bizarre that they had to blur Marty's Pink Floyd shirt....

hottest director: Cary Fukunaga
How exciting is it that Cary is directing bond 25!? SO excited!!

legit the last truly made TV show that was great..still unmatched

Rust Cohle is an amazing character.
Wow.. now knowing that it was shot on film makes so much sense why its so good. Everything else aside film makes a HUGE difference.
This show was so well done, I needed to watch this to convince myself it wasnt real
Potts and Kittles we’re both brilliant in this show. Really unsung brilliance in those characters.
The actor Potts was the preacher on the series The Wire, if you have not watched it it is highly recommended it was also an HBO series.
I have the series the wire.
One of the best shows ever made.
Show is an acting masterpiece
Greatest Series of All Time
I just finished watching season1 and right after that i started watching season 1 again 😁 as they say time is a flat circle...

Best season of television, ever, til infinity.
Currently watching Season 4, Season 1 still the best.
I always thought there was something weird about the owl in the church, cool detail that it's to keep the mockingbirds quiet.
Cannot wait for this, looks incredible.

The only best season out there with amazing cast and story
It just hit me that Nic plays the Bartender
And I've watched it like 20x. Just never knew what he looked like.
I really like how in the interview in 2012 the background for rus cohl is old file boxes old pcs and Marty is much more modern looking background😊
This season is definitely a contender for the best show of all time.
Finished watching this season for a 6th complete time
Man cast was stacked
Salute to the man who created the character of Rustin Chole
Thank you so much for that MASTERPIECE !
season 1 is the best series ever for me
Series talent...kick ass...writing was epic, especially for Rust. Deep shit.
Too bad Nick lifted a bunch of the material from another writer!

a giant masterpiece put together by nothing but sheer TALENT !!

Season 1 is phenomenal. I Wonder if there ever will be one that comes close. One that comes to mind is Boss (2011).
Rust is Amazing, but God, I Love Marty.
It’s the S-H’s
I think Marty is a great character, necessary, brilliantly crafted, under-rated.
