    I notice that a lot of people have commented that Maggie was not used to being groomed. This is not the case. Maggie was 18 months old when the video was made. She had attended Denise’s salon regularly since she was a puppy. She had her first lamb trim when she was 5 months old. One of Denise’s employees was Maggie’s regular groomer. Maggie was chosen for the video as she is usually calm and well behaved when being groomed. Like most poodles, Maggie is extremely intelligent and sensitive. She was obviously aware that this wasn’t her usual grooming process (the big video cameras and crew were new to her for a start!). On viewing the video, I was obviously unhappy to see Maggie so uncharacteristically upset on the grooming table. However, Denise was extremely patient with her. Denise not only gave an excellent demonstration of a lamb trim but also showed how to safely handle and care for an unexpectedly distressed dog.

      She didn't look THAT distressed to me :) - Of course, being her owner - you're acutely aware of small differences in her behavior but she seemed VERY GOOD and COOPERATIVE to my eye.

      I thought Maggie did great. There was a little whining, but it is a long boring task to just stand still for a long period of time like that. I'd be whining too. :)

    I'm actually glad that Maggie was less than cooperative, because as a new groomer I enjoy watching an experienced person work with stressed out dogs. It lets me see their handling skills which is important. Also nice work!

      i agree. Im training grooming at the moment, and i get so many naughty dogs but every video i tend to watch always has well behaved dogs. Sometimes they need to think about having naughty dogs from time to time just so i can see how they handle it.

    Denise, PLEASE post more videos! With the COVID-19 pandemic, my dog groomer is staying at home. I have 3 miniature poodles & I'm having to groom them myself. Denise's videos are so much more helpful than any of the others I've seen, because she actually instructs the viewer on exactly what to do. This video of Maggie getting groomed is phenomenal; and as others have commented, it's very helpful watching a pro groomer deal with a fidgety dog--much more like real life, at least with my three dogs who aren't used to having mama do their grooming!

    I still prefer shaving the ears completely. Keeps them trouble-free. A bit of a topknot and a small pouf at the tail is enough. For the rest a terrier trim is the most attractive, including straight-cut legs hiding the paws.🐩

    • @nicosf
      @nicosf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For Wahl clippers, 4F is 8 millimeters or 5/16". I think the groomer is using a clipper with an adjustable blade (from #9 to #40), probably setting it on 30 or 40, with the 4F attachment comb. Not all manufacturers use the same numbering system, so I wish groomers would state the LENGTH in addition to the comb number.

      The more hair on the dog the more upkeep it takes daily for the owner and dog to go through. The owner needs to sit down and brush every inch of the dog to make sure matting dosn't happen, the more hair the more possibility for mats which can be painful for the dog. And over brushing can cause rashes and irritated skin so grooming the dog to have less hair is important for it's own health and well being.

      Christel K. Dogs like poodles have to be clipped and trimmed so that their fur doesn't get matted and gather dirt and bacteria that can cause skin problems and hide from the owner any issues like parasites. This is especially important on the face, head, ears, sanitary area, and paws. It's for the dog's health and wellbeing. This dog is still a puppy, so she's not going to be used to being groomed, and so (like kids getting haircuts) she's not going to like staying still or an unfamiliar person fiddling with her fur. She'll get used to it as she is groomed more. The groomer was very gentle and did a great job of reassuring the dog. Although holding the dog's snout etc may look firm to someone else, she is holding very gently and it's for the dog's own safety.

      Dear Mrs. Charlie Koppack, I myself have 5 small poodles.You must cultivate the fur and unfortunately shears, but this kind of care does not have to be, it is only a madness of man. Kind regards

      Animal cruelty is when owners don't have their dogs groomed regularly, they then get matted and suffer having the matted coat removed! Owners who have the dog groomed regularly are to be praised, it takes a lot of time, care and money for the upkeep.

      You can obviously tell this dog hasn't been groomed that much and isn't desensitized to certain tools and gestures that come with grooming. It isn't the groomers fault. She wasn't heavy-handed nor aggressive with the dog at all.

    • @susie9379
      @susie9379 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THEE.apples She most definitely has been groomed lots, most dogs move around and don't stay still for a minute, she is an angel! This is such a difficult job, I think people don't realise, it is not cruel, it has to be done for the welfare of the dog, cruelty is NOT having your dog groomed and leaving it to get into a matted state, then expecting the groomer to work miracles by brushing matts out because they don't want it short! Then complain when the coat is shaved is off, ridiculous! Dog owners, educate yourselves and respect the groomers.

      thats what most grooming places do, I had to sit and watch as our miniature pups had to endure grooming for the first time. But after a few times going back to the groomer, they get used to it. That is when they begin to calm down. The woman in this video even said that this dog wasn't used to the grooming cause it hadn't done it when it was young, which is why it was crying.
      (If you actually listen to what she is saying) This isn't abuse at all, shes praising the dog to endure the things she is doing. Poodles need to be groomed to maintain their fur coat and it doesn't go all over the place. Its for a good cause.
      The woman even notes that shes not squeezing the dogs face / hands, shes making sure to not injure it.

    • @necropollo4552

      frankly, its not even animal cruelty or abuse. Shes not inflicting the dog on purpose, it is just to help keep the dogs coat nice and well cut. (rather than long, messy and unkempt)

      Lesley Sills I could do a groom. But sadly I do not have a good camera. In the salon where I work we take a break when it's dogs that have been groomed for more than 40 minutes. Just 5 minutes and then we continue. We have never cut any of the dogs with the clippers or the scissors. As told by the owners of the dogs, we do a great job

      LoveCats one thing i would like to remind you is that this is an edited video, and i would think that in between the cuts, they did give both the groomer and the dog a break. of course, there is a chance that the dog was not given a break, which would be quite a horrible thing for her to endure in this case.

    I have a shih Tuz mix (with some longer nose breed) and I keep the base of her tail shaved and clean her paws and face so in always getting asked if she is a poodle as it looks like she is.
