    Made use of 3 of these yesterday. Started with a jerkbait and caught a few, switched to a swim jig and got some and finished with a drop shot after they got less aggressive!

    Generally I'm a shore fisherman. I don't have room for a portable inflatable raft. I use walking bait or a shallow jerkbait because I can only cast so far. I still need work with my casting because I couldn't go fishing for many years for personal reasons. I just got back to fishing my 2nd year back to fishing relearning what I forgot an learning more as I go

    When it comes to topwater fishing I think wind and cloud cover play a big part in what bait I’m going to throw as well as cover . More chop and clouds a plopper is going on , calm with no clouds a walking bait . Heavy cover is always getting a frog ( and almost always black ) early morning or evening a wakebait is money . Great video as always with solid advice for all skill levels

    Sup Tyler. Great one because I usually put some of these away come June. Makes me remember your video on types of grass, the pond we go in boat most often, has a cove you can't fish from shore that is all hydrilla, it's about 2ft below water surface, we catch some bass but mostly pickerel here in RI, is it worth throwing a topwater bait over it? Or punching a Texas rig into? Or do bass just stay on outside of the hydrilla? Looks so juicy but thick, and about 300yds in and 100yds wide? We just fish edge and move on. It's a custom bass fishing pontoon boat that can go in 3" water. Sry such a long question lol. Ty tc

    Where I live in New Jersey, almost none of these lures would work other than the ribbon worm. Most of our ponds and small lakes are so overrun with vegetation and snot grass. Almost nothing with a treble hook is remotely usable.

    • @robertbrost7777
      @robertbrost7777 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello fellow NJ fisherman. The jerkbait will work as long as the vegetation isn't on the top. You only need a few feet of water above the grass for it to work. Sounds like it's Texas rigged Senkos or Yum Dingers for you. This time of year some top water things might work, Tight lines!

    I think it's funny when I hear some TH-camrs say that when you're up north you want to use smaller baits cuz the bass aren't as big. In Washington where I live the average bass like catches three to four pounds. Sure there are smaller bass but if you know what you're doing and you're okay bass angler it's threes and fours all day long. There are about five lakes that are within an hour from where I live and every single one of them has largemouth 7 lb and heavier. Northern Idaho maybe even better than Washington there are giant largemouth spots and smallmouth spots there. And if you look at State records Washington and Idaho are in like the top 10 for biggest bass.

    Biggest mistake using topwaters is using braid...ZERO stretch w/ trebles...will NEVER be a good scenario...sure, u will still catch plenty. However, u will lose plenty, too...that goes with any treble bait..that's also the reason people say "change out the hooks"..there's nothing wrong with alot of stock hooks...if they are bending, I'd be willing to bet braid is being used...my 2 cents...Mono will always be king with trebles

    • @DavidBronstein1961
      @DavidBronstein1961 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes!!!! I keep forgetting this and every big whopper Plopper fish I have lost has been on straight braid.

      @andybales7318 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DavidBronstein1961 personally, I like 20lb. Sufix Elite for my topwaters with trebles..except jerkbaits...12lb. Other good options- 15 lb. Big Game, 17lb. Stren original, 17-20lb. Trilene XL, 17-20lb.XPS Bass pro Excel....if u use the smaller versions of topwaters, 12-14 lb would work...Mono is the most versatile line, I think...best to respool occasionally...most come in big spools for that reason. buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, cranks, wakebaits, swimbaits..and believe it or not, I use 20-25lb. Big Game for frogs, if I'm using them around any cover other than grass. A heavier mono abrasion resistance is better than any braid around wood/rocky cover...braid is a great line for frogs, texas rigs, Jig n' craw, and senkos...but that's just me!
