    I absolutely love this new video by Dr. Mike Evans, a family physician in Ontario. In teaching groups about concussions, I have often used Dr. Mike's first video Concussions 101 “white board.” This new video was funded by the Canadian govt, and Cat McGill. One of my favorite people in the concussion world, Dr. Gerry Gioia helped with the revision of the video which now covers RTL. Great Job!!

    Growing up in high school and a little bit in college even, I have witnessed some sports players (mostly football) who always want to continue playing even after a head rattling blow. In the old days coaches would have put the smelling salts to their nose and thrown them back in the game, but now-a-days coaches will lose their jobs for that. Today the problem is with the players themselves because they are too prideful to give up their spot on the field, even if it means risking further injury. Sports are becoming better and better as time progresses forward from heavier padding in the helmets to concussion screening after any big hit or if there is any hint of symptoms. Head injuries are nothing to joke around with, there is plenty of concussion research and it all shows that the more head injuries one receives, the more the brain is affected and may not heal. It's important to realize how serious a concussion actually is to prevent further injury and to allow the brain to heal.

      @Samantha, thank you for your comment! I totally agree with you! Growing up playing football, I definitely had my fair share of concussions. I definitely kept playing after I would "black out" or "see stars." I wouldn't tell my coach or parents, just kept on playing like nothing happened. I would agree that a little of it had to do with pride, but I would also say that I truly didn't understand the seriousness of concussions. I thought "blacking out" was just "part of the game." My football team, coaches, or trainers never really talked much about them and what we should do if we had symptoms. Granted this was years ago, but I definitely didn't understand the seriousness of concussions as I do now. I am glad to see the changes that are being implemented into sports and I hope some of the changes Dr Mike mentioned are being implemented into the schools, locker rooms, and even the homes of the players. Definitely something that needs to continue to be talked about as we have seen the serious side effects of concussions if not handling adequately. Thank you for your comment!

      I have met some doctors like that too both male and female. Doctors who are from the kind of mindset in which they pride themselves in their patriotic love of nation and in their family background with the proof of that right to pride compared to others according to them is being how well they made it through their internship during which time they had to pull a lot of all nighters. While they are thinking a mental illness diagnosis could never possibly happen to them too when admiring most of all veteran survivors of war whom they are assuming all while being military personnel went through the same kinds of hardships while doing their rmilitary patriotic duty during wartime. A doctor like that who is basically an insecure within themselves person wants to believe that everyone in their nation has it so much easier and safer only because of the sacrifices past war veterans have made and so in their basic insecurities within in their own minds according to them they project about how most people who have just experienced trauma must have somehow brought it on themselves through bad choices or instead according to them only in their own mind they must be lying or exagerating about what they went through. A tell tale sign your family doctor from that kind of middle class background, who might be related to whomever else was involved in your complex trauma situation; might be one of those is when they seem disinterested and tired while trying to keep up the same pace they did when just out of medical school while they are at the same time getting to slip in a little bragging about how well they just handled an according to them only a fender bender in the city (too).

    It's funny how concussion knowledge has evolved, because so many people are convinced that their concussion caused problems BECAUSE they went to sleep, or that they need to stay awake on a concussion, to the point of adding caffeine and screen activity right after a concussion. But if sleep is so important, it means there's something they weren't even thinking about that happened.
    One of my recently favorite stand-ups says his stutter was caused by sleeping on a concussion, but I wonder if it was something that happened before he slept, or if the blunt damage went beyond a concussion

    What about traumatized stuttering from concussions? Do you need to go through something traumatizing or is it just a name?

  • @francesbernard2445
    @francesbernard2445 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Sometimes while healing from a concussion it is a matter of choosing 1 from a set of less than ideal choices on how to cope with a concussion. Lke for example when considering a move across town to a lot more quiet place to live where there is NOT going to be any all night house party enthusiasts who are rebels against COVID-19 pandemic public health rules too who will be living there in the same multi-family building. An investment into a move like that for someone who has just suffered injuries from a really bad car accident or who has been involved in some other kind of complex with more than one person involved trauma situation could pay a lot more dividends for all concerned than what looks like only on the surface to be like the most cost effective means of helping someone to a full recovery. For someone else it might be moving to a place where there is less distractions of any kind. A hospital room near an emergency department or a homeless shelter would be the worse place for someone to be remaining in while recovering from a concussion. Yet that is sometimes what happens to a young person soon after they have decided to move out of their parent's home when that move has not been on good terms for anyone there.

    Let's say someone was riding a go cart and it spun around backwards, then someone came at them going full speed on a go cart and ran into them. Their head hit the back of the cart so hard that everything went black. Then they were said for no apparent reason, and their vision was super fuzzy for while, and they had a headache for along time that isn't going away. What if in in two days they have to take end of the school year exams. Their memory is very fuzzy from the 1 hour before it happened to 2 hours later. Did they get a concussion? And will they fail their many exams?

I found alternative health practitioners that gave me glutathione IV, hyperbaric chamber, and now I'm currently doing neurofeedback and they all helped tremendously. I also take Vitamin D and omega 3 with dha/epa supplements. I am based in Canada. If you want to learn more theres a great book called The Concussion Repair Manual by Dan Engle. Good luck.
