New Zealand is a mini Canada. We have lakes, forests, mountains, quaint little towns and big cities connected by bridges and ferries by they are spread over 7500 Kilometers. We have 6 times zones but only .5% of the worlds population. NZ has all the geography but at a 1/10th of the scale. We are in the midsts of building a house too, only been 2 years thanks to COVID and incompetency. But getting there. I'm about a year behind on your channel so good luck, cannot wait to see your next phase of construction adventures.
So pumped to see the house and what you guys plan to do to it, gonna miss the antics and banter of the other guys but I'm hoping there might be future big SBC project that calls for some extra help and some classic smoko time joking around!
I dont know why but I felt just as excited as if I would have moved there. Maybe if you follow someone for so long you become really emotionally invested. So pumped for you both, you are literally living my dream.
So please for you two. I’m a carpenter from the UK and lived in NZ for two years just before COVID hit, on a working holiday visa. Your videos combine my two favourite things - carpentry and NZ. And now you are in one of my favourite spots! If you know how a young (ish) carpenter is able to make a permanent move over to NZ let me know! Ha. Super excited for what’s to come on the channel. Very best of luck
What a coincidence, 4 weeks ago when winter hit really hard in Scandinavia I looked at we’re I could live were they talk either English or Swedish that had a mild climate. First option I found on my quest was Auckland. After some digging on New Zeelands emigration platform I found that I need a work offer outside Auckland to be able to move. Next city I found interesting was Nelson. I have really liked everything I have read about it in the last weeks. I just need to finish Master of Science and I am jumping on the plane. Scots approval of Nelson has sealed the deal!
I live in Christchurch. Which is halfway down the south island of NZ. I've been to Nelson a lot. It's a lovely small town/city. The people tend to be quite relaxed. I remember in the city center traffic would stop for you all the time if you wanted to cross. No one seems to be in a massive rush or anything haah.
I want to say I started watching around 65k subscribers, and have been a patron for more than a year. So happy to see your channel grow. I hope Nelson is a great new home...but I keep thinking of the Guy Williams 5G story on NZ Today from last summer, and it makes me chuckle since that was in Nelson.
I live on the border of Victoria and NSW in Australia and while our lockdowns and border restrictions where up we had the police and military checking out permits every day when crossing, Very intimidating and stressful. Wishing yous the very best on your new ventures
I’ve got a prefab business in Nelson and we do a bit of Reno and repair on the side, there’s an endless stream of old timer houses here to keep someone with your skills very busy. And you’ll be able to get tools from Gaston as often as you like.
Hi Scott and Jess! Moving is supposed to be stressful, but you two look so relaxed! Great to see! :-) And congratulations on 300k Scott! Well done! :-)
If you are saying that we get videos of you fixing up your house I will simply pass away, I love the videos as they are but that would be incredible. Just got my sbc shirt in the mail. Much love from the US.
Hi Scott. I live in Denmark but took that ferry ride back in the days of backpacking around the world. That is till one of the most beautiful ferry rides ever and I remember the captain casually mentioning whales playing in the water and people running to the railing. I have family on the north island, but the south island is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.
i loved NZ, spent 8 months there in 08/09. Got memories backpacking all over, and hitch-hiked all over too. Congrats on moving - smack on/by the wet coast!
you are brave to jump into “new ocean” new place, new friends, new customers… but you are both so young so good luck! I am curious every of new episode and will follow every single one! good luck and greetings from Poland!
As a former traveler I love all the months I have spent in NZ and love seeing it through your lens. now even more excited it see the "south" oh and ya seeing what you are going to do with your new to you home!!
Welcome to Nelson, Scott 🏖. Having Gaston on your doorstep might be dangerous though - you better have an even bigger storage unit for all the tools you're gonna buy 😉
Congrats to both of you. I am sad that we will see less of the other guys but I'm excited to see where you adventure leads. Also we need more of Jess in every video.
I feel so sad, but yet happy for you guys. It's hard leaving friends and family behind. You two are going to do great. Owning your home is so much better than renting. Congratulations.

AWESOME you moved to my city! I can't wait to see you out and about the streets of Nelson and say hi. If your ever needing any electronic advice (or a special discount) pop into Jaycar in the CBD and ide love to help.
Hey man. Watched your stuff quite a bit. I’m a civil contractor. Lived in Auckland for 25 years (after Ireland) and then moved to Cambridge 5 years ago. Great to get out of Auckland mate(if I’m allowed to say that). Keep doing your stuff. It’s great.
I laugh when you said "we have been driving for 4 hours" like it was a big road trip. I live in British Columbia, Canada and when I want to go anywhere significant it takes 16 hours of driving. Love your channel, It makes me want to visit New Zealand. Looks very similar to where I live in Canada.
When I moved from Italy to Spain I drove all my stuff down in a van. 1500km in about 14 hours. Unpacked the van the next day, and drove back the day after that. :)
@@Budha75 Yes, from where I live, 4 hours would have me out of the country, nearly to Paris. Though, I lived most of my life in the US and know what you mean. Although Canada IS larger.
So glad I stumbled across your channel. I can't wait to see renovations on your new house! For now, I'm just gonna have to go back and re-watch your old vids that I haven't yet seen. Best of luck to you and wifey, and look forward to upcoming videos:)
Welcome to the South Is!!! We love Nelson, have an investment property there. I love the kite surfing at Back Beach and the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park. Planning a trip this October to make some renovations to our property. Would love to catch up in person! Currently we are doing a massive rebuild of a miners cottage in south east coast, Otago. Very much enjoy getting tips from your videos! Always something to learn.
Ha! Nelson, I picked it!! Can’t wait to see you build/renovate your own house💪🏼 That 300k will double in no time at all with this renovation im sure of it. Congrats
Congratulations on the move! We’re in the UK and recently moved from the Midlands to the South West, and we’ve found that while it’s easy to miss mates and family up there it’s also better when we do get to see them. It works!
1994 I was there for 3 months went all over both islands ... Sat at home watching u on the sofa as I've wrecked my back joisting and decking them .. I miss NZ I must get back one day . Good luck with the move Scott all the best from a wintery 🇬🇧 uk
Congrats you two. We just brought a house in Nelson too, a 1910s villa, very much Auckland style. And that’s how I ended up on your channel a few weeks back watching you and your team do up a villa looking for inspiration.
I am looking forward to this new series! I also recently bought a house in NZ and it is nice having a domestic channel for tips & tricks of the trade that are useful in the local context (nothing wrong with the US, Canadian, etc. channels. - it is just their materials, pricing and building practice in general are a bit different and it's very useful to have local content).
So cool ! I stopped at that same rest spot a week ago too on the national park road ☺️ just missed ya ! Stoked to see you both moving into another chapter of your life !

We did exactly the same thing 3 years ago, moved from Sth Auckland to Southland! Best risk we ever took.
The checkpoint was like a scene from the friendliest zombie apocalypse movie imaginable.
Friendly in the beginning.
Leaving commie Auckland!! Geez the WHOLE world is nuts!! No more freedom
