I certainly appreciated this!! My first year of MTv, this wonderful video was played 500 times. There were less than a hundred music videos in the early years, so Duran Duran and Men at Work also played over and over :-(
Thanks guys, also why would 3.2 thousand people dislike this amazing song?! Either these people dislike every good video in existence or they are just that stupid.
I see people loving Patty and the 80's music. I was lucky enough to see her live on an 80's cruise just before the shutdown of everything. Literally pulled into FL the day before they shut the port down. She can still put on an incredible show. Still looks hot, still has energy, still has a great voice! She was one of my favorite acts on the cruise!
She is SO adorable! I love those cute little silly moves and her facial expressions and her powerful voice in such a feisty cute little package! This song is great :-)
I`m a "children" of the Eighties (1968). The best time ever! The girls, the mood everywhere. Incomparable with the times today. Everything was better. But we are young, we are beautiful and now? Greetings from Germany-Bavaria.
A teen girl asked me a few years ago if the 80's were like she sees in movies and music vids and her mom's yearbook. I told her "Yes", it was just like you see in the movies and it was awesome! Truly the best time to grow up in the history of the world.
The 80's and early 90's were the best years of my life!!! I graduated in '84 and lived the life, being a young Marine stationed in Coronado and Camp Pendleton!!! Wouldn't trade it for anything.
She was so cute... so sassy... and yes, probably had one of the most underrated voices ever. Patty! One of the best pop songs of its - or any - generation.

This video is probably one of the best videos and songs i have seen . 1.The hair and style is hot and cute 2. She expresses charisma and sheer attitude in just one room.3. She promotes flair 4. When was the first or last time you heard a solo Keyboard with a hot dance? 5.They did not try to go over budget or over do it with gimmicks . Its all attitude!!!!!!!
Class of 1985 here. I love being Generation X. The last great generation without technology being rammed your throat. When you left the house they had to wait for you to show up again. They didn't call you on the road. Don't get me wrong I love technology and glad I am able to experience having every song ever recorded in my pocket but i remember hauling around my record collection too and I'm glad i experienced the difference. You tell that to a kid now and they're all "Huh?" It was a great time the 80's. I'm glad i was in it
Class of '85 here to kids today have no idea how good it was. Like going to record stores and spending hours looking thru the albums, or hitting the local arcades...damn they were good times!!
The dance move Patty does at 0:35 is so damn cute. I remember my girlfriend (now my wife) doing the same move while we were dancing in the clubs 1982-1986. Loved it!
When I see this video, it brings back such a wonderful time. The eighties was an awesome time to be young and Patti Smyth delivering the goods and her good looks and charm go great with her voice.
Patty Smyth reminds me a the dark eyed girl you went out with a couple of times in high school and then remembered her for the rest of your life. All of us have one.
Wow, I forgot just how BLOODY GREAT this song is. Incredible!! Love the keyboard sounds in there, too. Very much like the sounds on that first amazing KINGS album. And I love how the player references parts of the iconic solo in Del Shannon's "Runaway". Very clever. Patty and the band really shine here for sure.

Lol I had exactly the same thought; the look of this video just screams 80's. Still a good breakup song to this day, though.
U Guys took Words🗣Right Outta My Mouth😲This Song Exemplifies & Epitomizes The 80’s .Still Killer till This Day 👍 I❤️Miss That Period of My Life.Sooo Much Fun.The 80’s We’re A Blast!
They are all so good looking !😍
@@persona2grata I also love "Harden My Heart" by Quarterflash. (For a breakup song) 💔
I was 17 then almost 60 now and this song is still on HEAVY ROTATION!!!!...love it .
También fui adolescente a comienzos de los 80 fue una temporada inolvidable . Tengo59 años
Same here n lost my virginity to a 23 yo woman, 2 years short of Patty's age back then.
I also just turned 59 a couple weeks ago, Sept 24.
Absolutely loved Patty Smyth.
The 80's ruled.
Always will
There’s a common theme that runs strong in the comments. We all miss the great times and the music of the 80’s. I do love TH-cam for keeping it alive.
AMEN TO THAT!!!
No one want to leave the Party….
They don't make em like her anymore
U said it, I'm a diff 80s baby and all I want to do is go back cuz I don't understand this world
But seriously It’s a POS song 😂
along with "The Warrior" this is one of the most underappreciated songs ever. And probably the most underappreciated piece of media from 1982.
Agreed
Amen!!!
Songs were pointless pop, but Patti is SO DAMN BEAUTIFUL with A VOICE FROM HEAVEN that you couldn't/can't ignore it.
Great story.
Between her and Susanna Hoffs…Lordy!
The 80s! Wish I could turn back time!!
When a kiss was still a kiss.
Yes me too.
I want to go back to the 80's. Who's with me?
I Still Listen To 80 And 90 Music .Today Music will Never Match Ups.
Me too, that's all I listen to, 80's and 90's music. The music of today sucks BIG TIME.
If you are talking about Donald Trump, I agree with you what's he doing to the U.S is spilling over to Canada where I'm from.
Let's do it
Me, me. I still have the 80's clothes hanging in my closet somewhere .
She is SO adorable! I love those cute little silly moves and her facial expressions and her powerful voice in such a feisty cute little package! This song is great :-)
Oh man, I agree. She was so hot.
Very well summed up and stated.
LOVE THE 80's. "LOVE SONG & VIDEO "
bendietrees - especially those little "Jaggeresque" moves at around 3:16.
Unfortunately for her it was the only hit video from Scandel with Patti Smyth on MTV. 80's music was great though the era!
I`m a "children" of the Eighties (1968). The best time ever! The girls, the mood everywhere. Incomparable with the times today. Everything was better. But we are young, we are beautiful and now? Greetings from Germany-Bavaria.
Born in '71. Graduated 🎓 '89. Those were sweet, innocent, happy times.
A teen girl asked me a few years ago if the 80's were like she sees in movies and music vids and her mom's yearbook. I told her "Yes", it was just like you see in the movies and it was awesome! Truly the best time to grow up in the history of the world.
Don't rub it in😅
Truly a wide open decade.
The 80's and early 90's were the best years of my life!!! I graduated in '84 and lived the life, being a young Marine stationed in Coronado and Camp Pendleton!!! Wouldn't trade it for anything.
@@thebronzetoo cool, I also graduated in 84, and as a young airman was stationed in England.
It was truly a great time to be a rowdy kid with tons of energy........
One of THE BEST songs from the 80's!!
+thebronzetoo Indeed There!!,They are!
She also killed the 90s IMO with No Mistakes
eh
You got that right. One of the best.
Great song who hasn't live though this before..
She was so cute... so sassy... and yes, probably had one of the most underrated voices ever. Patty! One of the best pop songs of its - or any - generation.
Oh my God I missed the 80s. Love this one. Need an update. This is 2024 if you’re listening, you’re awesome.
You got an update from me. Patty Smyth could have sang anything, Pat Benatar, Blondie, - I just love my divas!!! :)
" Here for the 🎼🎶"
🙋♂️🎸📻
goodbye ✌you
Take care .😉
You didn't miss anything but a Flock of Seagulls. Ozzy Osbourne was the best. No glam - no shlam. Just damn good songs with no lipstick.
Thank you 😆
Absolutely here for the talent and nostalgia! I'm so glad to have been young and happy during some of the best music. Patty and Scandal were one of the best! 💖🎶
Wonderful song and era. R.I.P., to members of Scandal who passed away.
Man I miss 80's music. This song is one example of that incredible 80's sound. Where does all the time go?
Wish I knew. It does not seem possible that 40 years have come and gone.
I’m 57 and been a huge fan of hers since I was a teen!!! When it comes on the radio which sadly is rarely, it’s alllll the way up!!
Old school Cool all the way.
You blow
WHY DO THEY NEVER PLAY THIS ANYMORE?! 🤨🤨🤨
I hear this & Warrior on one of my local 80’s station but not often.
soy de Perú y aqui la pasan siempre varias radios ochenteras, no miento en decirte que por lo menos una vez al dia la escucho sonando en el transportes o alguna oficina por donde paso
This 62 year old becomes 21 again each time he listens to this song love it love it love it you go girl❤❤❤
It's sad your generation was never taught about punctuaction, due to its importance in sentence structure.
I hear you, DBGTV!!-I'm 61 and absolutely love the way music can take us back years!!-I've always liked this song from the eighties--another fave was the Pretenders " Precious"--really, there are just so many great ones -80's had some great music
@@Fluoride_JonesIt’s sad you have so little tach and manners. Condescending & being disrespectful are not good qualities punk.
@Fluoride_Jones I am old enough to remember the Comma Shortage of the 1980s. When you didn't have something growing up, you really don't use it when you get older.
@@bradcreel7267 🤣🤣🤣
An incredible song to live by say goodbye to all the negative people in your life.
Picture a 57yr old man CRANKING THIS UP at a red light. Love ya Patty.
And...
Picture a 1% millionaire socialist not paying his employees and wanting to be President of the USA.
joseph watson you must be a blast at parties....
Funny how much I miss the real MTV 🙂
@@josephwatson8448 I picture a guy who is off his rocker spewing a socio diatribe about class triggered by an 80s video featuring Patty Smythe. I hate to see what unrelated socio commentary will be triggered by you watching Boy George video.🤮
The whole decade of the 80s was spot on and awesome to the core!! There will never be another decade to even come close to the 80s!!
I wish I could go back in to the 80's now if I have a time machine
I could argue the 60s comes up bigger, but the 80s is damn close.
And my vote is for the 70's. But nonetheless, the 1980's was the last decade of innocence and optimism for the United States.
The answer is "80's for the win". Yes, you are correct.
80’s music and bands were super gay…. Aside from this song.
In college back then, no pandemic, no restrictions, no worries - just fun and great music.
You forgot AIDS
XD
Boom roasted
Because people controlled the government not the other way around.
@@karlreichert9051 that's also false.
Isn't she lovely on this video??
what guy would not fall in love with this one girl???
Patty you look awesome(and you still do)
love the 80's
Patty Smyth; Joan Jett; Stevie Nicks; Pat Benatar; Debbie Harry; Ann & Nancy Wilson; Madonna; Annie Lennox; Terri Nunn
So many beautiful rocker chicks from the late 70's-80s.
I can easily not fall in love with her. She looks annoying and pissed off. You sound desperate.
puma.will. pounce And the fact that you're a gay man......
shite4brains - Is that you, Johnnie Mac?
Diggin' the Southwest Terri Nunn!
I watch and listen to this song over and over- there is something about this never gets old!
Saw "Scandle" in concert in 1984 with "The Romantics" those were the greatest of times
Soo true, a good feeling.
Ikr. Pointer sisters-"neutron dance "is another one
Why is it that We don´t hear such great songs in the "XXI CENTURY" anymore ! 80´s music is UNBEATABLE !!
Because we have rap and country and they are both crap
It honestly is around.....ya just gotta look for it.
Patty is STILL gorgeous.
I saw her on the jimmy fallon show
She has a new album out and has new videos and promo for it. She great.
Ewww. Just saw her in an interview with the Professor of Rock from a few weeks ago and she has not aged well.
She sings great and looks like Linda Rondstat here !
I was in love with her back when this song first came out and I’m still in love with her😍. When I listen to 38 Special’s “Fantasy Girl”, I think of Patty Smyth. And by the way that’s a great song from that era as well.
80s totally rocked. Music back then had so much life.
Every type.
John Dyer 80s absolutely ruled the greatest decade in men history
Ray Sagastiano hate to say it but I take the seventies over the mid-nineties enough
@@derickarnold3301 I love the 70's,80's & 90's music. There was so much different stuff happening
Before strippers, pimps, criminals and drug dealers took over the music scene.
Plus it looks like they were having an absolute BLAST when they were doing it!
Well said!!
BTW lots of solo keyboards in the 80's! And imagine enjoying this song when it first came out! It rocked!! We had an AWESOME time!
Very pretty Patti
Loved it!
My LORD!!! What a voice!!! Really beauuuuutiful.......
ok
If this wasn't your generation you missed out. Still love Patty 2023
When I see this video, it brings back such a wonderful time. The eighties was an awesome time to be young and Patti Smyth delivering the goods and her good looks and charm go great with her voice.
just saw a video of Patty singing this in 2020 - almost 40 years later and she still sounds great!!
Like any really good music ..you know when it's hot & you know when it's not...40 years & Patty's is still smokin' hot.
Patty Smyth reminds me a the dark eyed girl you went out with a couple of times in high school and then remembered her for the rest of your life. All of us have one.
man ain't that the truth!!
Yeah I looked up mine on Facebook..... She's on her 5th Marriage .....
Yeah, and for me, her name was really Patty Smith!
I wonder if any of the guys l went out in High School remember me.
@@monicaritvo I'm sure they do!
The keyboards on the album are Paul Schaffer of Late Night Fame and SNL...😍
@@nothingheremovealong6751 I am pretty sure Benji King played the keyboards.

I just read about the Paul Schaefer connection and had to hear the song again. Been too long....
Nice keyboard comparison to Runaway!
I constantly listen to it😊😊😊
My 9 year old daughter wanted to know what 80 dancing looked like. I said "Oh I know a perfect example" and showed her this video. Now she loves the song and dances just like that to it all the time! 😊
Going thru a breakup? Sing this 100x a time you instantly will feel better!!!! oh yeah!

Yup😂
The 80's music is some of the best ever.
Reason why people of all ages still listen to these songs. 80s was by far the best decade for music. Mtv went a long way of helping.
“These last few weeks of holding on, the days are dull, the nights are long” - poetry that sums up exactly what it feels like when a relationship is over yet you’re still trying to collect the pieces and save it.

The 80s really were great. I was teen through them. Fun memories and tons of them.

If someone said show me the 80’s, this is the video, the music, the clothes, the hair, Patty looking hot as hell and the dance moves it all perfectly encapsulates the 80’s
Patty Smyth has the perfect voice for hard rock/new wave. She's in the same echelon as Ann Wilson and Linda Ronstadt. Unfortunately Scandals 's 1984's hit, "Beat of a Heart❤", doesn't garner the respect it deserves......
