I take back what I said. To call this good would be to say that it only reaches some benchmark of technical proficiency. This is a performance which is truly spirited and full of life. This is a celebration. Too often, Dowland's music is rendered with a stuffy air of cadaverous museum-ism. The *complete* lack of that here renders this version an absolute joy. Thanks so much!

At first I was a little bit confused. Not the usual sound. But after a few seconds yout got me. That's the way you have to do the song. Got me swinging between smiling and wallowing. The phrasing of voice and guitar is perfect. Music at is best. Thank you.

Magnifique ! Exceptionnelle interprétation de cette pièce célébrissime ! Rythme parfait, harmonie, simplicité et virtuosité ! Bravo à Olivier Bensa; sa guitare est simplement magique et orphique... La voix de Cécile Cardinot (par ailleurs remarquable guitariste) est touchante d'équilibre et de justesse ! Je ne connais qu'une autre interprétation de ce 'tube' de la Renaissance aussi justement interprété, mais par un homme (Rogers Covey-Crump, tenor+Jakob Lindberg au luth)

It's very easy to miss the mark with this beautiful Dowland piece, and my trawl through the various TH-cam versions, in search of treasure, has yielded its share of disappointments.
But this is not one of them. Initially deterred by the pace, I hit on the idea of adapting myself to the performance, rather than expecting the performance to 'rise' to my expectations.
Magic. There's a simplicity of expression which is wholly captivating. It belies the firm technical grasp of both artists, and in the end completely lifts the piece out of the mundane. For me, at least!

beautifully sung. You really are feeling the words and meaning. Nice that it isn't operatic. It would have been sung originally exactly as you have done. These were the pop songs of the 16th century you have captured that fact perfectly!

An absolute 10.0
the vocalist reminds me of an elf. Her great singing adds to that image as well.
I thought she went too fast in this performance, so I just attributed it to her being an elf (who would have different way of feeling/comprehending the world than humans would) and that way the faster pacing felt like it had an authentic explanation.

Just simply a superb vocal and guitar rendition of a Dowland classic at the normal speed....but try the .75% speed setting and enjoy 30 more seconds of pure joy!!!...
